Fox Float X & DHX | How to Upgrade with Low Speed Compression Knob
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 06. 2024
- There are a TON of bike that come stock with Fox Float X Performance Series shocks. These shocks do not have adjustable compression, however, with around 25 bucks and 25 minutes you can upgrade your shock to have a low speed compression adjustment knob! Once you have this LSC knob, you essentially have a Performance Elite Float X, which is also the same as the Factory Float X minus the Kashima coating.
In this video, our head suspension master Alex shows you how to install this low speed compression knob upgrade on your Fox Float X Performance Series rear shock. While this isn't the most complex install in history, it can be quite finicky and we recommend watching this video in full before installing yours.

You should use a small zip tie to push the cylinders in simultanously
Nice trick! We'll try that next time 😀
I was going to suggest the same. Beat me to it! 🙂
I was thinking that same thing
You can use a plastic tire lever,it will not scratch the shock
Yes...While pushing the plastic cap off, I knocked one of the springs onto the floor. Took me 30 minutes to find that sucker! Suggest placing all those tiny parts into a magnetic tray for safe storage and work from there. Also, after taking off the plastic cap, I suggest that you initially look at the orientation of the specially shaped shaft to the new blue LSC knob and remember what number on the knob was the default position. On my 2023 Specialized Levo SL, it was the "7" setting. I currently have mine set to "8" now. Hope this helps!
Thansk, wondered this
I would like just to mention, that is very rare for such a dude as Alex to have 5 balls. But its nice touch! ..even the one is a bit smaller
If only the kit was ever in stock anywhere.
I have a DHX on my new Capra and I just adjusted my LSC w/o the kit. Pop the cap off and twist the metal tear drop piece carefully with the smallest pair of needle nose pliers you have. It's very fiddly to adjust, but if you just want to set it and forget it, you can do w/o the kit since its all sold out everywhere.
@@k1ng617 yeah, I did the same with my float x. Just wouldn’t mind having to knob. But honestly just going to get a vivid and that’ll solve all the problems.
My local shop just got a handfull in
Ah. The sense of relief as the top snaps on. Awesome guys thank you. Fitted and running smooooooth ✌🏻
really glad you made this video for the 2022 float X. I couldn't source an OEM fox knob kit, so I bought a 3D printed knob off ebay. Works great!
You are the only person on the planet that I would allow to work on my bike. Genius!
Worked flawlessly. Took a few attempts to set the cap and get the pins lined up.
Serious upgrade here. Will be making sure to add this whenever possible.
when depressing the pegs, would a small ziptie work to depress all 4 at once? very good walkthru of process.
The zip tie trick worked for me
Worked great, thank you for the video!
This is great, I was just reading about it last night.
Quick and easy-didn't have to take the shock off the bike (Rocky Mtn Altitude). Thanks for the video. Found a kit on Ebay... more than $25, however.
Thanks, went in like butter, 👍 👌
This isn’t all together true. Just adding the knob will not give you enough adjustability to feel a difference. To get full adjustability, you need to upgrade the base valve. This was confirmed both by talking to a Fox shock technician and by installing it myself and getting no adjustability. And, I can feel the slightest adjustment change. Although, it’s worth it to get the pretty blue knob. In the end, I installed a new 2024 and now reliable X2. Its perfection!
Interesting. Anyone else able to confirm as well?
Nope got a factory float x and performance float and they both change equally ish and they both have the same stump jumper tune
After a lot of research into this topic, and speaking with techs at Fox, we have found that the Base Valve tune doesn't depend on whether the LSC knob is present or not. There are some base valve tunes, called Bleed-Valve versions, that have more Low-Speed forgiveness built into them than non-bleed versions. The Non-Bleed base valve tunes will inherently have a more easily perceived feel to the adjustment. And if your shock has a Bleed tune on the BV, then you can certainly change the tune, but this will also change the ride characteristics and overall feel. The bike-specific tunes do not have differences in this base valve tune for Performance vs Factory. Fox has also published an engineering drawing for the NON-LSC version of the shock, showing the 4 positions that the plastic knob can be oriented to to achieve the different LSC adjustment. This further indicates that even the plastic black placeholder cap still adjusts the LSC throughout its range.
This is about all I can say that's clear and to the point for this!

@@TheLostCo the frustrating part is that if you talk to different FOX techs they give different answers. To check this i contacted FOX US east and west coast techsenters directly, and they gave totally different ansvers. One said you do not need to change the Bleed Valve to get LSC, the otherone said you most definetly had to. So pretty hoples..
I have the same experience. Adding the button does next to nothing. This is on a 2023 Levo
I’ve wondered if this was possible on my Dhx coil, so it’s awesome to see that it is and how to do it. Thx.
he says that's the same as float x

@@k1ng617 Did you notice a difference in feel? Someone else posted on here that this didn't affect much, etc, but I find it hard to believe the lost co would put out this vid out if it didn't work, AND that fox would run some different internals yet cap the adjustment piece.
I was about to make a similar video, just got my kit yesterday
Brilliant, thank you.
Great video. Does the adjuster really make a difference? I’ve heard mixed things on the forums.
Hell.... Yes..... Love these hacks
My float X on my new cube came with this blue dial ony 2023 cube 160 I got on Saturday im trying to work out the suspension settings not sure if it's the same shock it's the gold coated one so suppose you can call it an upgrade kit now since fox doing it themselves on new bikes
Hello good afternoon!
Do I have a question? I bought a bike that came with the FOX FLOAT Could you tell me if these shock and suspension models are compatible with remote locking on the handlebars? Is it possible to install?
My friend's been looking for that part for 2 years
I used a car interior trim lever to pry off the cap. It's plastic and has 2 area of contact
I like the pliers concept. Slightly grip the cap and pull straight up!
Thanks mate
Thank you guys for the nice work. So, if I got it right, at the end you have a fifth ball that you won’t use. Correct? And most important: how many clicks is the standard settings, the one you find defined at the factory? I mean, something like 5 clicks out of 10 or so? Thank you
Was also wondering if the smaller fifth ball was needed.
does it make a good diferences when you upgrade it ?
Do you have to take the air out of the shock before you start?
I got mine on a from that well known online auction site. Has stock as of Dec 19th
Yay I did it!
I got my kit off ebay from UK seller - in stock as of 1/1/24. We will see if it allows changes with stock shock tune on canyon AL spectral
Install was easy! I got my cap off with a plastic tire lever, spoon end on the cap lip and kind if leveraged it off the upper shock mount. Popped off first go. The new adjuster is definitely noticable on my shock, I've read others say it does not work without a different internal tune
Is there a similar hack for a performance series x2?
Read video , Coul you do one on the remote leaver install please
Does this need to be done on a non pressured shock or doesn't it matter if there is air in it or not?
doesn't matter if it has air or not
It is possible to remove the blue knob?
What a pain in the #$@! 😂
Any idea when more of these kits will become available?
We got 50 in stock today that were on backorder for 2 months. They sold out in a matter of minutes 😯

When installing the adjuster, how many turns does the tear drop in the shock need to be from open or closed before you seat the adjuster
you can install it in any position.
@aidanshmaden69 how do you know if the setting its on matches up with the knob.
I've turned my eyedrop many ways one direction no knowing where its supposed to be set from factory
@@WannaJumpBikes The knob can only go on one way. thats why its tear drop shaped. the knob doesnt do anything but make it easier to turn the adjuster shaft.
@@aidanshmaden69 nice one 👍
Not true. There is an arrow on the right side of the shock that is used to match the numbers. You turn the adjuster rod fully closed and line up the lowest number with the arrow before pushing the cap all the way on. The adjuster obviously still works but the numbers are arbitrary without a reference point.
It’s Alex!
I printed my knob. Now I've got a Patrick star LSC knob
Wanna make me one? lol
Thanks for the video! I've added my email to the "notify me when available" list on your site. :-)
Anything you can screw up majorly by attempting this?
Well I did it without pulling the shock - had to chase down springs for half an hour. Turns out the gap between crankarm and frame can capture a spring
Use a small cable tie to hold the tiny cylinders then seat the cup n cut the zip tie
It would be nice if these were actually available. I've been trying to buy this knob for two years and its always out of stock everywhere.

Yeah, you get the pretty knob but sadly, no adjustability. I did just that on my Trance X 29r 1. Rotating the knob has literally zero effect on the LSC. Worth the hassle if you're aiming at a nicer looking setup but that's pretty much it.
Nice work through video👍. I would also suggest a cable (zip) tie. Not sure about the defaced Black Sabbath shirt
Thank you, received the kit today and will install it soon, however in Europe is not as cheap as in the US... 35€ here😅

This is so easy tf
Can you do the same on the fork?
Depends on the fork but generally I think it's a whole damper change
No, this is only applicable to the Float X and DHX rear shocks. The forks function totally different.
-Mike
Just and advace take the cap of the shock first then open the bag, easily the screw can fall on the table, shock or cap can slip and say bye to those small parts bearing and springs
Nice! Does this work with Float X2 as well?
Pins prob a ziptied will help
Great so where can I buy one?….. oh, out of stock EVERYWHERE
can i do a fork like fox 36 performance?

Fun fact, the plastic cap does turn for compression adjustment, but you only have 4 total positions.
The original plastic cap on the shock?
@@topchoice1621 yes sir
@@topchoice1621 you’ll see a small “notch” type engraving on the top of the plastic cap, when it’s pointing towards the shock, it’s open. Rotating it clockwise will adjust compression. When you take the cap off you can also see that “teardrop” shape on the underside of the cap, so it is in fact spinning the compression.
@@marklegkun59 yes I see what you’re talking about but it’s kind of hard to turn I’ll just leave it alone for now I’m pretty much satisfied with how my suspension feels lol thanks for the help though
@@topchoice1621 Correct, you have to remove the plastic cap to turn it to any of the other 3 positions as the moulding where the detent is acts as a hard stop for all 4 positions, where with the metal cap, it is machined to allow 1 rotation.

Why do these performance versions even exist? They are not cheaper to produce, but are still installed on inexpensive bikes. Why would a bike brand go to Fox and say "I want an OEM version of the Performance Elite that is built exactly the same but with a non-functional LSC adjuster"? This is so stupid.
Holy cow. That camera "work" made me all dizzy 😂

It was still perfectly captured how to do this. You’re just complaining for no good reason.

Seems like a pretty stupid thing to save money on, the adjuster is there, Fox only saved $ on the knob.
Product segmentation is often somewhat nonsensical, and typically obnoxious
It forces you to spend more money on other things you don’t need.
I bought mine for the adjustment and or the pretty…..btw I thought all lives matter🤔
agreed
Seems really tedious and frustrating to do for such small performance gains on your bike just ride and enjoy what you have on your bike the way it is you don’t have to be an enduro rider all the time 😂😂😂
5 mins in, none the wiser and sick of constant talking. yes i know how to make a workspace, yes i know to check the part is actually in the bag. you dont have to talk at all it dosnt help.
