  • Robson has a terrific game as Liverpool struggle to come to terms with his sheer dynamism and wily movement. Robson ends up with a well taken brace but could have very well had more.
Robson also squares up against Graeme Souness and comes out on top on this occasion and Souness should have gotten a red card for a foul on Robson.

I'm no Man U fan but Robson was one hell of a player. I'm not quite old enough to have an opinion on Bobby Charlton, but since then Gazza is the best English player I've seen (the only genius), and Robson is the second best. He not only COULD do everything, he DID do everything ... all the time, a one-man army. And because he was as hard as nails, I don't think he ever quite got the recognition for being as good a footballer as he was. Not a man for scoring the fifth goal in a 5-0 win either, more a man for making it happen when it was most needed. What a player.

Yes I remember as a 10 year old thinking United were going to win the league after this game but, they didn’t… Liverpool once again we’re head and shoulders above the rest.
I’ve got to say though as a Liverpool fan Robson was an amazing player and should have signed him when they had the chance, as he actually preferred Liverpool over United when he left WBA….. Liverpool wouldn’t meet Uniteds bid though

You are right, it is a Robson compilation video but I sometimes include the vs tag if the context or individual battles/rivalries warrants it.
Both were magnificent midfielders and amongst the best in their trade. Having them both on the same side would have been akin to cheating!
Regarding Robson wanting to go to Liverpool over United, I could be wrong but I think he wanted to move to United.
Ron Atkinson - "Soon as I took the job, I wanted Robson. When I was at Albion he’d put in a transfer request, slipped a letter in my office when he’d come back from being away with England. So I called him in and he said, “Well man United are after me.” My reply to him was ‘I tell you now for nothing, the only way you’ll go to Man United is if I go there before you!’
The day I got the United job Robbo was out in Switzerland with the England team, and he’s on the ‘phone: “Gaffer, remember what you said?” Talk about managers tapping players up - he was tapping me!”
You can read more about it on this thread that I made on an United forum.
      www.redcafe.net/threads/classic-players-bryan-robson-the-greatest-british-midfielder-ever.431217/
You can also check out the pair of Souness compilations that I'd made before if it interests you too.

Robson was a good English player but was not on the same level as other English midfielders, who went on to win big trophies, something Robson didn't. The likes of Gazza, Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes were better, players like Souness and Roy Keane were on a level above Robson. That is why Souness and Keane won so many trophies and did it by being the Captains and leaders. I think because Robson is English he gets talked up more than players like Souness and Keane. When in reality he wasn't n their level, if Keane or Souness were English then I reckon England would of won a major trophy. Not only that, if they were English the press would be raving about them all the time.
