- DPS Troopers locate 18 illegal immigrants inside the cab of a semi-trailer during a commercial motor vehicle inspection on I-35 in LaSalle County. The driver, of Mississippi, was attempting to smuggle them to San Antonio. He was charged with human smuggling and all 18 illegal immigrants were referred to Border Patrol. (11/21/22)
He really should have had more confidence when he said there was nobody in there. His hesitation when answering that question told the whole story.
Good thing he's bad at lying. Even if he was confident, they would have been discovered anyways.

5 years in prison for EACH illegal immigrant he was smuggling! CLOSE THE DAMN BORDER!!
This happened back in 2017. He was facing life in prison but pleaded guilty on all counts and received 12 years. He got lucky when the pandemic hit in 2020. Mississippi desperately had to thin out its prison population for social distancing purposes. Prisons became extremely dangerous to both inmates and staff. They granted emergency shock parole to almost every inmate they had that wasn't deemed much of a threat to society. He was released after serving a little over two years in prison, but remains on parole until 2030.

Possibly someone snitched. But Honestly if your a dot officer and you weigh a bobtail truck you would know those things only weigh 17,500-21,500lbs

There seems to be some confusion in the comments. A Federal Motor Carrier Inspector (FMCSA Officer) is allowed to inspect the sleeper berth to ensure that it actually has a bed, of a minimum standard size, to be utilized during a driver's off duty (not driving) hours.
If the curtains are closed by law he has to obtain a search warrant to lawfully enter or inspect the sleeper area. It is an extension of your home.

It means when you get your CDL you lose all of your rights!You can be stopped without any reason and harassed by cops and DOT!

When someone is operating a vehicle that meets the requirements of a roadside inspection they have already given implied consent for that roadside inspection. It is definitely a burden on driver's, but fortunately there are safety inspections unlike other Countries that have no rules and it's like the wild west!

They would have checked the inside anyway, the officers usually inspect the inside when truckers go through certain check stations and port entrances. If you get pulled in for a check, they are going to most likely do a quick glance at least.

The x rays are in inspection stations not the road and they are mostly in border patrol station and don't get used unless you're pulled into secondary.
They definitely have a type of X-ray here in NYC on certain public roads ie tunnel entrance, bridges etc

First off people it wasn’t an illegal search. He can search the truck in a commercial inspection. Second he had permission from the driver to search.
Third, the troops are trained in interdiction. And the dude sent up the biggest red flag ever when he was asked if he was alone. His body movement, facial movement and expression, and his delay of the answer all indicated that there were people in the cab. That led to the asking to look, which was granted.
Highly doubt this was from a tip or anyone snitched. You would be surprised what is found in normal day to day contacts. If it was from a tip, it would not have been in a truck stop, with other trucks getting inspected. It would have been stopped roadside, away from other people and the troopers would of had all been focused on that one truck. Not engaged with other drivers.

I have taken multiple interdiction classes. There was a lot to this contact that was not shown, but I guarantee you the answers he was providing, were not already matching up with his logs, or his body language. Nervous or not, it wouldn’t have played into it.
