    I own a lot of Seiko’s. And the Seiko 5 GMT is nice. But as a man who has a large collection (too large) and getting close to retirement, I’ve really been thinking about selling them all and living our island life with only “one” watch. Rolex, Omega, and believe it or not a Seiko (LX Series). It’s desirable to be free of a ton of watches…all that winding 😂. That Pepsi Rolex is gorgeous…I know you must enjoy it. ❤

    I'd never pay 11,000$ for a watch if it has the same features as a 500$ one. At 11,000$ you could easily get one with moon phase and extra complications from other swiss or german brands. You practically pay the extra money for the brand Rolex alone, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want to show off your wealth. I drive a Lexus LC500, but i decided to go for the Seiko GMT in orange, I love wearing it over my other watches. Besides, it's like you said, wearing an expensive watch while walking around sketchy neighbourhood gives you an uneasy feeling. Great video by the way! I subbed.

    The issue with Seiko GMT watches though is that they shot themselves in the foot when they released the Seiko 5 SSK series then followed it up with the release of the NH34A for the mass market. As much as I love the design of the Seiko GMT SSK005, why would I want to spend $400 on it when a Zelos Blacktip GMT, or Phoibos Voyager GMT at $399, which features an amazing lume and has inner AR Sapphire Crystal? or the Signum Cuda GMT for $50 for BOTH Titanium and Inner AR coating with Sapphire?
    Also the elephant in the room is that accuracy window of +40 / -20 seconds per day, which is technically COSC compliant but this leads to situations where your watch starts being a minute or so ahead after a week or so from setting it. It needs regulation which isn't a big deal if you're deep into horology since that means you have your own timegrapher and case removal tool but not so much if you're new to it.

    • @ClickyBezel
      @ClickyBezel  Před rokem +2

      Great observations! It's amazing what micro brands are doing nowadays and the release of the NH34A calibers have really helped push the affordability factor on GMT watches! I wish they did this earlier when I first started my watch journey. It's a shame that Seiko as a brand is trying their best to go upmarket (as the value factor wasn't how it was back in the good old days of Seiko) but I can see why they are doing this from a business standpoint to remain competitive with mid-tier brands. Although with these watches being in the Seiko 5 line, I wish they could reduce the pricing on these... One can only wish haha. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

    What movements are out there that currently provide around a 70-hr power reserve outside of Rolex, not including watches with solar technology. I would love to see more high-end watches that are knocking it out of the park with sweeping hand plus a power reserve exceeding a minimum of around 60hrs, preferably 3 days eg: 72hrs approx.!

    I'm hoping the Miyota 9075 gets more attention soon, it's a "true" travelers GMT at a similar pricepoint but it's only used in a handful of watches. The Traska Venturer GMT was the only one I liked the aesthetics of but sold out so quickly as a microbrand.

    Thank you for the great review and video. I've only had the same Seiko 5 GMT for a few days, love it, perfect summer watch (have a PRX and Legend Diver as well) and was lucky enough to try on the GMT Master 2 with Jubilee at a AD so got to compare the 2 and though you can tell in the quality, hence the price. The Seiko more than hold its weight for the price, joked with my friends, the jubilee is Rolex-lite and like you can mod the bezel and glass down the road. Respect the Rolex and have my name on the list but this Seiko is a wonderful everyday watch, feels like built to last and I get the hype now. Cheers and all the best!

    I just bought the seiko 5 gmt yesterday for my birthday and I love it.
    For the price that cost the value is incredible, it feels way more premium than my Baume Mercier hampton XL (which has a crocodile leather strap which cost almost the same price of the Seiko gmt LOL). Different models I know, but just to give an Idea.
    The rolex master gmt is for sure awesome, but their politics of selling and the price don't worth it for me, too much hype for this brand nowadays (I prefer Richemont group which don't give you an absurd waiting list, except few limited models).
    I remember when my father bought is first rolex in 2000, a Datejust Oyster Perpetual for around 2000€. Ok 23 years are gone, but now the same one cost like 3/4 times more, the same thing didn't happen to Seiko that still try to maintain the cost low as possible.

    This is a great pilot's watch. 3 time zones. Watch is set to my home time, the 24 hours on the watch face is set to GMT and the bezel to the time at destination. Super easy. Keeps great time. The luminosity of the face is very nice. I'm in the crew rest bunk for 2-3 hours the watch is bright and easy to read in the dark. As an airline pilot I love this watch. I also like how one can wind the watch without loosening the crown. I have 4 other GMTs none has the functionality of 3 time zones. I'm getting another one. If you want to impress get a Rolex. Want a watch that works as a pilot. This is it. The real deal. A true Pilot's mechanical GMT watch. A real pilots will love the price too. 🙂

    • @Milofchg
      @Milofchg Před rokem

      Value yes, for now, just as long as it doesn’t need a service. The Seiko new costs roughly $350 - $500. Used $200 - $250. A service will cost you $300. In the long run you will pay more for service than the watch is worth. The Seiko is great for the price, it punches well above its price point, but in the long run you can’t beat it to death otherwise you lose money.

    • @bigballoon89
      @bigballoon89 Před rokem

      @@Milofchg same thing I can say about Rolex and some other premium watch brands. I've a friend asked for a service for his rolex datejust in Milan, the cost was so high that he decided to not do it for the moment + time (like months). Btw I checked the price for the movement 4r34 and it's half the price you said, so 🤷‍♂

    • @Milofchg
      @Milofchg Před rokem

      @@bigballoon89 To each his own I suppose. I know Rolex service is $800 (it's more if a Rolex has gold) in the US, $1200 for a complete overhaul. If you pay over that. Then the watch was damaged and that's when the costs starts to add up. Once Rolex says this watch needs this and that part that's beyond a standard overhaul? You will need to pay $$$$ plus wait longer to get your watch back. This is why keep up with the recommended service schedule, and try not to beat the hell out of a watch regardless make or model. I limited my collection down to a few luxury pieces (Rolex Explorer 36mm, vintage Sub 5513, Omega Speedy Pro, JLC Reverso large mono-face), and one Seiko - Turtle SRP777. That I paid $375 at Macy's. Great watch, tough, fun to wear, and a good looking timepiece. Just as great as my other higher end pieces. I like to keep it simple, low key, versatile, quality over quantity. Functional for every or any occasion.
