    For the money, the Hailstorm 18858 and especially the Rampage 18859E are one of my favorite 1/18 cars and platforms. And this brand new and re-designed 18859 definitely seems to improve on some of the previous features. A new version of the 18858 Hailstorm should also be out by now.
    Even the stock non-oil-filled shocks (or springs) look a lot better than the open pogo-sticks on the old Ratchet, Rampage and Hailstorm (pogo sticks that suffers from getting stuck caused by dirt etc.). And 12 mm hex wheel adaptors, stronger suspension, and a much wider stance and larger ground clearance is also a nice bonus. In fact it seems that this new 18859 actually share more with the larger HBX 1/16, the 16889 and 16890 than with the old 18859.
    You can check out the unboxing and overview of the other cars in the video here:

    HBX 18858 Hailstorm: • HBX HAiLSTORM 4x4 Mons...
    HBX 16890A Destroyer • Brushless HBX Destroye...
    ... the HBX 16889 ... coming soon too!
    Have patience with me. Currently I have little time for anything else than being a breadwinner and a father. Things will clear up soon and test runs will appear!
    HBX 18859 upgrades with oil filled shocks and more also coming up.

    It was great, everything and more that I wanted to know!

    I still have my old Rampage from 2019. It was my first RC truck! The new one is a complete overhaul and is currently on sale on Amazon for cheaper than I bought the 2019 version! Might need to pick one up! The shocks and the driveshafts are already quite the upgrade already! I am really impressed! The only thing I prefer on the old model is the tires. I know the new ones are supposed to be grippier, but I like the deep dish rims of the old ones.

    I really liked the small form factor of the 18859 over the 16889. Now the size difference is so small i might as well go with the 16889. You could say that the 18859 is no longer 1/18th scale, its more 1/17th scale now.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 3 lety

      Hi! Yeah, these 18xxx has definitely grown in size. Especially width. The length and wheelbase isn’t that much differerent. It will be interesting to see if the 16xxx has grown too. Hmm I wouldn’t say they are 1/17 now. If you compare it to a 1/18 WLToys they are about the same size.

    • @NordicRC

  • @Zarigun
    @Zarigun Před 2 lety +1

    Hello. So I got this vehicle today and after about 20 minuets in the snow everytbing was fine but I didn’t want the snow to stay in there so I blew it all out and air dried for a second. But whenever I put the battery back in it doesn’t turn off. I have to turn the receiver off and then unplug the battery to turn it off now. Is this something I should worry about? Also the turning is squeaky now

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 2 lety +1

      Water is tricky if it starts to corrode the metal parts. Could be wires, drive line, gears etc. So even if a car (any car, cheap or expensive) is termed waterproof, it is a risk. Sometimes you need to disassemble and dry individual parts after a run in water/snow - immediately after the run. That’s why I don’t run many of my cars in water/snow. Too much hassle

    You think I can still get new parts for my hbx hailstorm?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 3 lety

      I bet they are still around. But yeah, it will be more difficult in the future I think, if these new ones start getting popular. And in the future one really has to check part numbers, to make sure one orders parts for the right version. It would really have been easier if HBX had given these new ones, new and different numbers.

    • @bradkalman2353
      @bradkalman2353 Před 3 lety +1

      @@NordicRC I hope that's not the problem cuz I'm planning on getting oilfield dampers for my original halestorm and I do need to buy two sets of the tires that came with it from where I understand the new hail storm is actually slower than the old one which makes no sense if they change the motor they should have gone to like a sport tune version of it to make it faster or put a 390 in there.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 3 lety

      Not sure why these new ones should be slower than the old ones. But looking forward testing it out. If it is a lot slower they might have changed the gear ratio on the new ones. I definitely not think they would have changed the RPM of the motor.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  Před 3 lety

      @@brandonbute6092 Ahh, maximum top speed is often more about gearing (gear ratio) than motors. You can use the same motor for a 10 kph top speed and 50 kph. The higher the gear ratio the lower top speed and higher acceleration. And vice versa. Just like the 1st gear on your bike/car versus the 6th gear.
