    THIS STORY:
Barry Sadler was introduced to music at a young age. In 1958, he enlisted into the United States Air Force as a radar specialist. Later he enlisted in the United States Army as an airborne paratrooper. Shortly after training, he was deployed to Vietnam. In May of 1965, he was wounded in the knee by a Vietnamese punji stick, The wound itself became seriously infected. While he was recovering, he would record what would be his only number one hit song, "Ballad of the Green Berets," which was released in early 1966. The song would become a worldwide sensation.
    MUSIC:
I chose to include the actual famous Barry Sadler ballad. Since we were unable to obtain copyright permission to use, we had turned off our monetization option (money) and all proceeds from this episode will go directly from CZcams to the song's copyright holder.
That's just OK. It's all worth it - for our viewers.
    Enjoy.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

You are so right. These men didn’t ask for the war. They were drafted. I’ve known several men that were in Vietnam. Including 3 uncles. I think the treatment they received when they came home is horrendous. They would walk down the sidewalk in town and someone would spit on them. Such inhuman behavior. There were so many other things that happened to them at home in the USA. The USA you know supposedly the most wonderful country? But yet they treat there soldiers like garbage. Totally sad.

That’s strange isn’t it. The song says it all. There was another song about a soldier got into trouble for having a deck of cards instead of a bible and he explained what each card meant but to me this was my favourite. Thank you for looking at this for us. The other song was called Deck of cards by Wink martingale I think his name was. But Green Beret was the one I used to sing

I asked my dad one day if he had silver wings could he put them on my chest. Thinking about it now the explanation he gave me must have been pretty good cause I accepted what he said. If you look up reflections of my life by the marmalade this is to be played in my funeral but someone has put a video to the song and it is powerful and makes us realise that it’s real people who go to fight for us and our freedom and freedom of speech. He’s put some soldiers from Vietnam in and come right up to date to the Afghanistan war. I still can’t watch it without crying especially the end but it breaks my heart. I wish the thugs and drug dealers and general nobody’s who murder and think the world owes them a favour I wish they be made to watch it over and over again until they realised what total idiots they are (I won’t swear this channel is too dear to me). Nice vid. I was in Nam when Barry was there & his song came out.
I lost several high classmates there, all were really good kids that I knew well, they never even made it to our very first high school reunion at 5 years, there were ones of whom you would be a proud parents, brothers & friends of. I often wonder that if they had lived to be fathers what their families would have been like today.
At each high school reunion the master of ceremonies would ask all those who were veterans of military service to stand up next to our dining tables, it was remarkable to say the least that 3/4 of the men in the class would stand to their feet. Yes, we were once just kids from working class neighborhoods & we would talk about the memories of our friends who gave their lives in Nam, we were one of those "classes that went to war".

Amazing man. I hope he is enjoying heaven. War is tough. I think that brought him to murder. My grandfather suffered through 2 wars. I extend to his family thanks for his service, and the song.

This is one of my many favorites during Vietnam. They fought lost too many soldiers and were spit upon returning from war. They were not recognized just as the Code Talkers. I salute all of you still to this day. Thank you Berry Sadler for this truly great song and your service.

No that’s really cool I wish I could play it on the piano. I do silent night pretty good and a few others but all by memorization, never was very musically inclined, but I can play those songs pretty good!! But man you might be inspiring me to try to learn that one!!!

Thank you for producing this, Mr. Ron. I grew up in Winchester, TN. Two of my older paternal cousins both served Army in Vietnam, and gifted me with a 45 rpm record of Sgt. Sadlers song. I listened to it over and over. Like many other commenters here, I never knew “the rest of the story”. Again, thank you. I will visit the grave someday.

Thank you for this story. I just cried happy tears. That was my dad’s favorite song. He would play and sing it over and over again. My dad just missed going to Vietnam due to be diagnosed in 1968 with a brain tumor, he was given a honorable discharge and he was told he only had a year to live. He outlived that finally passing away in 2003. We played that song at his funeral.

My dad was in Korean war when I was very young before that war mom sister and myself followed dad in the military. My whole family is military. When I hear this special song I almost come to tears. Lost a family member in Vietnam. Terrible war. We should have stayed out of it but was told we were there to protect.

Thanks for making this video of Barry. It's very informative. Love this song. It did inspire me to join the Army and serve my country when being in the military was unpopular. Although I never tried to become a green beret as it was extremely demanding, I did serve as an infantry officer. As Dirty Harry once said, "A good man knows his limitation."
