thyroid surgery is commonly performed endocrine surgery.
RECOVERY FROM SURGERY
depend on the extent and type of surgery you have received and overall health It takes longer to recover from traditional, open surgery than from a minimally invasive procedure.
You can Manage Your Pain by prescribed pain medicine.
You may put a cold compress on your surgical cut for 15 minutes at a time to ease pain and swelling. pain medication can cause constipation so eat plenty of fiber. Do not put the ice directly on your skin.
Wrap the compress or ice in a towel to prevent cold injury to the skin. Keep the area dry.
Wound Care
Please elevate the head of your bed 30-45 degrees or sleep in a recliner at 30-45 degrees for the first 3-4 days to decrease swelling. The skin above the incision may look swollen after lying down for a few hours. Elevating the head is crucial when both sides of the neck have been dissected to avoid a “swollen, puffy neck.”

Apply a light coating of Vaseline or antibiotic ointment over the incision multiple times throughout the day (can stop this after two to three weeks).
Keep incision out of the sunlight, or if expecting exposure to sunlight, apply sunscreen (45 SPF or greater) to incision. This is to prevent/decrease tanning of the incision line. Continue this practice for the first six months to one year after your surgery.
As an additional scar prevention measure, apply silicone band-aids (for example: “Scar Zone” or “Merderma” bandages) at night for eight to ten weeks after surgery.
Voice Change
Voice changes, such as, a hoarse voice, difficulty in speaking loudly, voice fatigue, and a change in the tone of your voice. These changes are due to damage to the laryngeal nerves that supply your voice box (larynx) during surgery.
This may last a few days or a few weeks but is rarely permanent.
Using the Nerve Monitoring helps surgeons reduce the risk of nerve injury during surgery.
Hypocalcemia
You may experience low blood calcium levels due to damage to the parathyroid glands during surgery. Again, this is usually only a temporary problem treated with calcium supplements over a few days. Signs that you may have low calcium are numbness and a tingling feeling in your lips, hands, and the bottom of your feet, a crawly feeling in your skin, muscle cramps and spasms, bad headaches, anxiety, and depression.
Long term only issue is Hypothyroidism
Without this thyroid hormone replacement, people experience tiredness, depression, difficulty concentrating, memory problems, unexplained or excessive weight gain, dry skin, coarse and/or itchy skin, dry hair, hair loss, feeling cold (especially in the feet and hands), constipation, muscle cramps, joint pains, increased menstrual flow, low sex drive, and more frequent periods. The hormone replacement tablets are small and easy to take. Your doctor will check your hormone levels on a regular basis and adjust the dose of thyroxine until it is right for you.

Mam my wife has suspect of hurtle cell follicular neoplasm.
Doctor suggested to remove both thyroid gland.

Total thyroidectomy of my wise Shampa Halder was done on 22.07.22 due to thyroidectomy cancer.
She is now under treatment of TATA Medical Center , Kolkata.
Radio Active Iodine therapy has been done twice. Last RAI Therapy done on 24.09.23.
Next follow up visit at Hospital is on 24.01.23.
Recently she us feeling pain at throat probably due to swelling of salivery gland.
Please guide what to do now?
