In this video, Simona Millham covers multilevel numbering in Microsoft Word. First, she creates a multilevel-numbered list using a predefined list format, which she then customizes to improve various aspects of its appearance. She afterward creates another list by defining a new multilevel list, and she demonstrates the benefits of this approach.
After watching this video, you will know the different ways in which you can create multilevel lists in Word, and how you can customize them. Simona demonstrates this by first using a predefined list format and then customizing the appearance of the text within the list.
Next, she shows you a much better way, by defining a new multilevel list. With this, you can save your customizations and apply them to other lists in your documents. She also shows you how you can convert this definition into a list style, which you can then apply to lists in all your documents.

@5:45 the list numbering for the first indent looks incorrect. Wouldn't you want the number from the previous level to come first? I.e., it should be 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, rather than 1.1, 2.1, 3.1 -- which is not how outlines or numbered documents are normally numbered.

Thank you so much for the video. Is it possible to have continuous numbering for all the levels from the beginning of the document/report to the end (irrespective of the headings/level).

I liked the video but there is s a problem. When you go to number 3 the numbering is wrong. It goes 3 and then 3.1 but then below it goes to 1.3.1 and NOT 3.1.1. I tried to fix on my end but it did not work. If I use the numbering template in Word “1.1.1....” is there a way to fix it? Thank you
