It's astonishing that the number one wrestling company for decades is so repulsed by the idea of hiring people with wrestling experience. Can you imagine this in other industries? Imagine a garage being turned off by applicants that have experience repairing cars. Or a restaurant that won't hire people that know how to cook. You would assume such companies wouldn't last long, right? And yet the wrestling promotion that hates wrestling and goes out of their way to hire people that have absolutely no experience with wrestling whatsoever just chugs along forever and ever.
Though I never understood how Michael Cole's looks factored into his hiring. He is thin, and as a result is better looking than Kevin Kelly, but that's all he really has going for him. Is that Kevin Dunn's standard? Just need the better looking of two very average looking people? I was a teenager at the time of Cole's hiring and thus at my peak of being superficial and everyone thought he came across as a huge dork. If he was supposed to be some cool guy that us kids would relate to then they struck out big time. If you're going to have an uncool guy either way then you might as well get the guy who knows wrestling.

This reminds me of my buddy who used to work at toys r us, and said that at his store anyway, they had a policy not to place people in departments that related to their interests. The reasoning had to do with not wanting people to steal or get distracted as much, so the result was having the guy with a 6 month old who's never owned a tv working in electronics, someone fresh out of high school who plays guitar working in the baby section, and a woman who hasn't heard of Steve Austin trying to help some kid find a Randy Orton figure.

You want people that are ignorant of how things should go so you can teach them YOUR way to do things, and you also don't have to break any "bad" habits. And that's why everyone in WWE now sounds like him. You take the blank slate, chisel out a mold, and then take everyone else to fit into the mold. Dunn has a style and wants that style. The fact that the style sucks balls is a separate issue.

General Motors has frequently promoted the chemist to oversee chassis and given the engineer a new title that amounted to nothing. Harley Davidson has had to throw out the executives that don't ride motor cycles more than once. See, General Motors and Harley Davidson can't afford to go too long making what they want over what the customer does because Ford and Indian will run over them eventually. WWE getting rid of that "alternative" lets them neglect "top down" spring cleaning. They just push out a few "bottom up," and usually quit around the foray because guests don't see any further anyway.

As much as people hate on Jim’s run with the company, he does not get enough credit for the way he revamped that HDNet show, which before him, I thought was hard to follow due to the taped shows being so disconnected from the live events, DVD’s and PPV’s. Jim did a great job of improving the continuity of the shows, plus I thought he got a lot out of guys like Roddy Strong and Tyler Black from a character standpoint, when at that time especially neither guy felt like anything to write home about.
