- Diane Van Es, Maureen Koster and the Vally Running Team coached by Grete Koens are gearing up for a some road races in the coming months before beginning their indoor track seasons. We joined them for a threshold interval workout during their altitude training camp in Font Romeu.
The workout: 5 x 2km at Lactate Threshold with 2min recovery.

@@csalt5235 Yup me too, it's been about 10 years of me planning on warming up before a good run.
@@samuelbeasonjr.3308 I've heard different theories about warming up before a run. For one, static stretching is to be avoided and light movements should be okay. I generally do some body weight squats (25) before a run and it seems to warm everything up as it should (quads, calvs, achilles, etc.).
@@csalt5235 I think what they're doing here is over-board and can actually lead to injury. But that's just me.
This is a similar warm up to what I’ve used for my camps over the past few years. Since most of my camps are high school kids, we use it for coordination training as well as to help prep/develop ankle proprioception, reactivity, and tendon tension before hard efforts. At this early of the morning, my guess is they are doing it to help wake up the neural system before the intervals in the cold.

I'm curious why the coach said she never does anaerobic workouts at altitude.
Might be because the attitude they are at (I think ~1800m) doesn't lend itself to doing quality workouts.
