I had a look at Lisa's new release, but didn't buy anything from it, because I can't see the shades in person beforehand. Feeling very smug about a new cruelty free lipstick from the drugstore in an autumnal bricky red though... there is such a joy about staying within my budget and enjoying what I have, yet being able to live vicariously through you via the beautiful generous swatches and your descriptions.
@@krist5422 Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Honest. It's not really that long lasting, but otherwise a treat.
In this case, at least for me, it's more about the formula than the actual shade. It's quite different and far exceeds anything I've ever tried. The colors are great to. Lisa has such a great eye for undertone that even a seemingly similar color just looks better on.
Your last comments about taste are so true! I am also incredibly pale, very yellow toned, but Velvet Ribbon, followed by Velvet Jazz are my best reds. I've noticed with nudes that I prefer a cooler tone. The reason for this is that I love how a cooler toned lip makes me look done up. I wear no other makeup 90% of the time, yet wearing my cool red or rosy pink makes me appear as though I put lots of time into my makeup! I am all about efficiency at the end of the day 😂😂 work smarter not harder and all that 😂

For anyone who couldn't get their hands on Velvet Dragon, the color looks super similar to the 3CE Soft Lip Lacquer in Null Set, which they describe as a red with a unique touch of chili. It does not compare to the texture of the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks, but is still a beautiful product. Loved this video, and the long, juicy swatch of Velvet Dragon next to all the other colors. It was so satisfying!

Same. My sister doesn't wear makeup and she once asked to borrow a red lipstick. I then spent 20 minutes asking her what kind of red she wanted and swatching all the reds I had. She was a bit overwhelmed and apparently hasn't realized there was so much diversity and nuance to red lipstick.

It looks amazing on you! I love the myriad of reds and seeing them all side by side like that. Personally my “perfect red” leans more cool toned but I actually still love an orange toned red every now and then for the surprising pop of contrast.

I had thought that her Velvet Morning shade was my perfect red until this one arrived. I love how dragon is just...different and interesting. And it is enough to be intriguing to the untrained eye. There is room in my collection for both morning and dragon.
Do you have i desire from hourglass? I think it s a more orangery orange than morning and diyhered if i want dragon or not. Got velvet blush instead to look like a girl in watteau painings
I know this is a late reply, but I've also got Morning and have been debating for ages whether I should get Dragon too. Are they different enough to justify it? As an FYI, I'm a natural redhead (very very fair with deeper red hair and dark brows), and Morning is very neon on me but still obviously a red. Dragon has more orange/burnt undertones which intrigues me.

Hot dog is that perfection on you! My skin is rather neutral but I adore it on me too, it somehow blends into my mouth and aligns itself with my features in a way that suggests it was meant to be there all along. That gal really does get color.

Having resisted all (both?) of her previous launches, I really went to town with Lisa this time around and splashed out on all three reds, as well as Velvet Dragon and Velvet Decade (the gorgeous, sepia photograph-inspired colour). Decade is the only one I've worn so far, but I'm so excited to finally have these treasures. I completely agree that Dragon is super special in tone - somehow bright and muted at the same time. I'm so glad you love it!

I have a medium (white person) skin tone with yellow undertones that can fake at neutral-leaning and I have platinum silver hair....I typically dislike orange-reds on me and LOVE blue-reds. WELL! I saw this when Lisa tried it on and nearly bought it (but am honoring a budget and it was too rich for my blood at present). I may have to get it when it comes back in stock. It's SO different and lovely!!

Just divine on you, Hannah! I lean more toward blue reds, though I can wear both warm and cool colors. My perfect red used to be a Clinique (they changed formula recently). When my current red is gone, I am eyeing a red from Milk makeup (love the lip formula), but you may have convinced me to try Lisa Eldridge. ❤️
Oh, I'm so glad you love it! When she dropped her lipsticks the first year, I bought the original trio - Jazz, Ribbon, and Morning. I was pretty psyched about Morning, but it ended up being too bright orange a red for me and my coloring. Velvet Dragon was more what I was looking for all along, probably. :) I bought Velvet Blush this year and have zero regrets.
I always find bright and orangey reds alluring but I know not to buy them because they don't suit me. I'm enjoying your swatches vicariously while revelling in my perfect deep blue-toned reds.

I also bought Velvet Dragon (along with Velvet Fawn and the Go Lighty gloss). It’s my perfect statement red, just like you! I was so excited when Lisa was revealing this one.
I also got Velvet Dragon and picked a gloss but when Lisa started describing Velvet Blush and the inspiration from Watteau I just could not resist. 😁
I got this lipstick too! My husband and I got ourselves some treats this year for our anniversary instead of a weekend trip because of covid. I got velvet dragon, velvet affair, and the lipgloss in muse. I have similar coloring to you, and I'd say that velvet affair is far warmer than velvet fawn, which makes it look much better on me. It is my perfect deep nude when I sheet it out. And velvet dragon is gorgeous for all the reasons you mention. It reminds me of a VDL lipstick in Lucky Amber that is the best lipstick for my skintone that I've ever tried! I think it would be absolutely gorgeous on you and fit right in with your color preference if you're looking for more lipstick :)

I’ve been waiting for this! My LE lipstick in velvet beauty came in the other day and I was sad it wasn’t pinker 😩 It reads as a nude on me, which isn’t what I wanted, but it’s a beautiful object for sure.

Dragon reminds me of a slightly lighter version of Nude By Nature's lipstick in Red Blossom. Dragon also looks slightly more creamy upon application, whereas Red Blossom is more matte.
Lisa Eldridge is absolutely on my list of formulas to try, but saving up for it is important to afford the shipping alonside the lipstick. One day Velvet Fawn shall be mine :)

The perfect matte, orange-red lipstick is my white whale (warm tones suit me way, way more than cool tones and too many so-called “warm” reds wind up pulling blue). I think I have it, at least for now, in 3CE’s Velvet Lip Tint in the shade Childlike. It’s vibrant as a paint swatch but has a delightful “lit-from-within” translucency and, despite the matte finish, a moist, pillowy texture. The only downside is its so-so lasting power. I highly recommend trying it to those looking for something in that ballpark.

it's a great lippie! In the swatch footage it actually looks more similar to Velvet Dragon than they looked to me in the moment in real life. I kind of wish I had pulled it for a closer comparison.
@@HannahLouisePoston Now that I’m considering it, have you tried the new formulation of the Rom& Zero Matte lipsticks? I own nos. 2 and 3 and just adore the crap out of them. They aren’t super-saturated like the Lisa Eldridge formula but are buildable and make for a great blurred edge. I’d love to get more of them (not that I need them) since the product photos are luscious as hell and the color selection is huge. I think I also spotted a Rom& Juicy Lasting tint in your lineup (ok, nope, but close enough)... I own a bunch of those and reach for them constantly. Talk about some really gorgeous burnt, autumnal colors!

I love Dragon and I'm glad I didn't get Morning and held out for it's muted cousin. I have a morning sort of shade in a satin formula and I think I prefer it that way. With that said though, Dragon is not a red on me. It's an orange. In some lighting it can look a little deeper than most typical orange lipsticks, but in direct sunlight it's definitely orange. I just wanted to put that out there, that unless you're very fair it probably won't look anywhere near red.

I've noticed that this muted brick orange color may be seeping into the western make-up world from k-beauty, so perhaps looking at the more affordable options over at yesstyle could be interesting? I'd be totally down for that. :)

I just bought some Lisa Eldridge lipsticks this year (for the first time - I saved up for them) and I love them! Velvet Dragon is such a perfect statement red. But I also got Velvet Jazz and that actually seems to be the red I’ve been looking for (for years). I’m around as pale as Hannah, but with completely neutral undertones (I wear Lancome Teint Idole 090), and I have deep auburn hair (brunette dyed with henna), and this has the perfect depth of color to balance my hair, with the warm brick tones - it’s shockingly wearable for a deep red with a pale skin tone. It almost feels natural on me (even though it’s clearly not a natural lip color). And I am loving how this formula wears! Also, I picked up Velvet Affair, which is very similar to Fawn, but a bit deeper, and I think this is my perfect neutral/brown shade from Lisa Eldridge.
Velvet Dragon became my true red the moment i put it on my lips. Still, it’s such a nice feeling to swatch all your reds and see how unique of a lipstick it is in color.

I bought Velvet Myth (the blue-red berry) my first time around to try out the formula, and it is both beautiful and hands down the most comfortable matte lipstick I have ever worn, so I was ready for the restock. I got Velvet Jazz, the deeper red that is "my" red with my cool undertones, and Velvet Blush (how could I resist a shade inspired by the paintings of Watteau and Fragonard?), and they Did Not Disappoint. In addition to the formula, there's something about her shades, they're more balanced and less linear in terms of undertones.
As soon as I can justify buying luxury lipsticks (or someone wants to buy me a very special gift 😉), LE True Velvet reds are on top of my list. ❤️🧡 Ribbon, Morning, Jazz and now Dragon! I've been lusting over them since their release. When I saw Dragon I fell in love and Lisa's description of it sealed the deal even more! I think so far she has all the red tones and undertones nailed perfectly! If she comes out with a blackened red in the Velvet formula that would complete the collection for me and make me consider decluttering many (possibly all) of my 40+ reds.
The different tones, undertones and finishes of red lipstick are indeed seemingly infinite.
it's great you held out for this one, I bought both morning and jazz last year and was disappointed to find they weren't "my" reds: morning looks almost neon, but I can wear it at night when the lighting is soft (or during the day when I want to make a really bold statement) and jazz is muuuuch too dark and vampy on me, it looks nothing like what it did on the people who reviewed it when it launched, to the point that I thought I got another shade by accident. I had a hunch that more rusty tones suited me best and I confirmed it when I bought MAC Chilli on sale (which is slightly cooler toned, but similar to Dragon). when I saw Dragon, however, I knew I'd found "the one" and I was so right. the question is now what do I do with all these other reds I'm not gonna wanna wear, lol?
Cristina, I had a similar experience with velvet beauty! I bought it because I wanted a LE lipstick but I really wanted a pink, since that’s what suits me, and it really did look like a pink on the models, but it reads as a kind of nude on me. It’s so weird! And then I was about to write it off and maybe not even wear it anymore but I tried it again with a bright multicolored striped sweater and now it’s somehow pinkier?! It’s so weird!
You can try pairing it with a lip liner or a gloss.

I got velvet jazz too, and while I loved it, it was way too cool and way too dark for my day to day preference. If I'm feeling wild, I'll put it on and rub a duochrome eyeshadow on top of it and it's just perfect!

I think if any lipstick is worthy of a 30 min video its Velvet Dragon haha, I love it too!! Dragon and Jazz are my favorite out of all of my reds, but Dragon is probably #1.

I've been wanting to get Velvet Fawn and Velvet Muse since the beginning of the year, but now since I don't go anywhere + wear a mask when I do, it just isn't a doable purchase for me right now. I thought initially her lipsticks were limited edition, but I'm hoping she continues to restock?
She's said that she intends to restock annually, with some shades returning and some new shades each time. Hope that helps!

It definitely is. On temptalia site is a dupe for flame which is the matte version from tf of wild ginger. I own both flame and velvet morning and they are almost indistinguishable with the small difference in texture. Tom ford matte appears more smooth and creamy ans thick while lisa s more powdery and lightweight

Those were some ooey, gooey, sumptuous swatches. I already figured I’d be waiting patiently for the next round of restocks for velvet dragon and I am even more confident in that decision.
I thought it might be similar to the rom& zero velvet lip tint in the shade Witty!
May I ask, what about kissing? Does Joe have preferences as to the taste of your lipsticks & is he OK with colour transfer to his own mouth? CZcamsrs never mention this stuff & I'm so curious!
I so love the aesthetic of the minimal eyes and the orangey red lip, but I just can’t pull it off with how yellow my teeth end up looking with non-blue-toned reds

I think velvet cinnabar would also look great on you. I think it's in between fawn and dragon. Burned brown with yellow undertone.
Beautiful lipstick, however I don´t know if it will suit me because I have pink undertones ;/ also I don´t want my teeth to look yellow :( That´s my biggest concern
The texture of the bullet is fascinating but kinda eerie, not sure how I feel about that
I've bought several matte reds this year too. And they feel so much easier to wear than emolient ones.
I think that strong colour looks much better in a matte formula. And when the shine adds to a colour it looks like too much to me.
I think velvet morning is a spot on dupe for wild ginger. It s also a dupe for tom ford flame :) and i love them both . But i bought flame for the matte finish and vevet morning the same. There was also a path mcgrath red (obsessed ) maybe that s also super matte and looks like a orangery red vortex . Howver :) nothing beats lisa in glam. I dithered about the velvet dragon. I love the concept of dragon and i have also nars dragon gir ( blue pink red ) that i also bought for the name . Howver i fee that on most people the yellow undertones were a bit off putting so i did not buy it. Also i have ribbon jazz and morning and feel like they covere pretty much the reds :)
