took an ancestry test btw, literally found out I was Scottish last night so this feels super appropriate
Maybe the real Scottish were the Bagpipes we played along the way
*Scottish Moment*
You were scottish for a night Daniel c'mon
Now you must drink IRN-BRU 😐
AND YOU CALLED IT *DUMB*
Props to the editor for sending a camera to space to film that alien

Daniel is officially the first person ever to play the bagpipes "kinda like a violin" and somehow make it sound alright 👌
whwhu indeed daniel, whwhu indeed
Daniel: I’m going to make a song using the bagpipes (an instrument that is intrinsically tuned to a set key, with multiple pipes that drone in that specific key) and the ukulele (an instrument that can basically play any key)
Also Daniel: _starts with the ukulele_
EXACTLY! I was totally baffled :D
Genius isn’t supposed to make sense.
I don't know a thing about music, but that's kind of what I thought 🤣 (in a beginner way)
Whaha
Ohhh, that explains everything. I was wondering why he didn’t just take the notes he was playing on the bagpipes and go down another half step.
So it’s the same idea as a harmonica but a lot more complicated.
Thanks.
As a Scottish musician. I am mad that it works. Congratulations
Too bad he didn't have a steel drum and a theremin nearby though. Not enough pizzazz.
@@stevekirkpatrick1612Could have used some slide whistle and cowbell too, but I’ll take what I can get.
@@theradiantdehd3997should have incorporated a digerido or Jew’s harp but it will have to do.
It works because both are portuguese, one is the hawaian evolution of the 'cavaquinho' and the other was left here the celts over 2000 years ago.
That's dang impressive for an hour. I have to say that I feel like an opportunity was missed, though, for a folk song about someone half Scottish and half Hawaiian struggling to choose their instrument...
That person can't exist. The 2 polar opposite personalities will just cancel that person from existence.
@@bipolar-tigerwhat… does this mean..?
He said ALL the comments sould say whuwhu
"I'll be Superman; You'll be kryptonite."
I like how Daniel wrote the lyrics and even then, he loses the hypothetical fight.
that rhymed
I mean, that's not exactly right. Superman villains almost all attack him with kryptonite and he still wins, day or night.
Condolences to Jackie who had to be the test subject but huge respect to Jeremy who probably had to listen to that song hundreds of times while editing the video.
And, of course, well done Daniel!
had to? you mean had the pleasure of listening to that song hundreds of times
Who's Jackie exactly? Not that knowledgeable about CZcamsrs
@@freejsjj Jackie is a member of Daniel's team, production manager I think. She occasionally appears in Daniel's videos and is a lovely and funny person.
It's the "who is that" in "the kid who would do this is in jail now."
@@scubadude5481ain't it just the way?
Song is amazing, I was only slightly disappointed when the bagpipe solo wasn't added to the second verse with a lower volume as i feel it could've added another layer of your already well mastered pleasantry. Please keep doing this, I'm exited to hear more!
You know when he said the words "original song" I was really waiting to see how he would create an already existing song with bagpipes and a ukulele.
If anybody with wider musical knowledge than myself recognizes this song from somewhere else do let me know
Daniel, you should have played that for your piano teacher. It was an original song and you would have spared him of his insanity
LMAOO fr
200th like and yeah😂😂😂😂
Teacher: Daniel, PLEASE JUST PLAY AN ORIGINAL SONG
Daniel: Well lucky for you I've come up with one over the weekend *pulls out ukulele*
Teacher: Daniel this is a piano-
Daniel: *pulls out BAGPIPES.*

"That's not what a half note is, funny music man."
Also, as a man who has suffered the indignity of repeating multiple music theory classes on my way to becoming a sound engineer, I actually understood what you meant the first time. Semitones are confusing.
As a music major who also had to take music theory, same
Yeah I completely understood lol.
my brain automatically knew what he meant and didn't question it and now I question why I didn't question it lol
I take steel drums and my teacher I swear has turned it into a music theory class instead so I completely understand him struggling it can be confusing under pressure
I'm genuinely always happy to hear bagpipes creatively. It's great.
damn the part when he knocks the timer is too funny gets me every time
My wife, a music major, tells me I have to say "that's not what a half note is, funny music man. A half note is a duration of a note. What you mean is a half step." Again, not from me, my music major wife. But we both love all your vids.
ha! I'm sure Daniel just had an adhd brain goof, but "funny music man" is so funny idc
As he says it in the video there is a note explaining his mistake and that he mispoke
I believe you and your wife has started something in this comment section. 😂

I just found this channel today but i gotta say, im truly impressed he can play the bag pipes
I love this goddamn channel so much. How is every part of it always so high quality
As a person that plays the ukulele, this video and Daniel realizing the ukulele is out of tune (which is common if the Uke had newly put on strings) while recording the song was so accurate!! He did a fantastic job though, 10 out of 10, would listen again!
I felt a lot better about my own ukulele puttering when he got more confused by the ukulele NOT being out of tune.
I want this song to be played at my funeral, so that I can purposely annoy people one more time
Also, THAT'S NOT WHAT A HALF NOTE IS, FUNNY MUSIC MAN
I wonder if he knows that and just wants to be extra annoying, lol
lol same tho
Sameeee that would lighten up the mood and let them know you still love them in a funny way😂❤
Haha lol
I was waiting to read this comment for You funny Music man!! Found it
Much appreciation for the editor's editing skills and perseverance 👍😆
Also I love to think of the "So sleep well tonight ❤" as vaguely threatening 😆 The ukulele and bagpipes are best friends ❤ Don't cross them ❤ Sleep well :) ❤
"That's not what a half note is, funny music man"
as someone with perfect pitch, i can confirm that the ukelele and the vocals were a full 5th higher than the bagpipes. the bagpipes were in Bb major. You were playing the ukelele and singing in F major
Hire this man with a retainer fee in case you ever have to worry about your various instrument tunings
Ah, Gregorian Chant harmonies
But honestly, the piece kind of has an ABA structure with the key shift
Is having perfect pitch actually useful for you?
(I picture someone standing at a farm, a horse neighs and the guy goes: "C sharp")
@@tmuney8870 he is clearly an alien.
And, like all bagpipe music... it is hard to tell if it was good music played horribly, or horrible music played well.
Both
Will never understand why people are constantly shitting on them, I assume people in other countries just can‘t play them well? It‘s a great instrument. The point is for it to carry across the landscape and echo in glens and you can feel it in your chest. You don‘t have to like em but it‘s really annoying to have them mocked so much

Neither of these instruments are dumb but truly they were not designed to be played together, and you still made something fun
Daniel is so talented. I don’t know anyone who could make a ukulele and bagpipes actually sound appealing. GOOD JOB, DANIEL!
Well, that was most certainly a Daniel Thrasher original - Thank you for continuing to share your creations with us!
Hey! He finally wrote an original song!!!
(Unfortunately, it wasn’t on the piano, so Teach probably won’t accept it)

The best part is the backup vocals ❤😂 makes me wanna belt it out
The way Daniel squints his eyes when putting on his sun glasses to avoid poking an eye out is so hilariously relatable
I close my eyes when I put on my glasses ever since I poked myself in the eye once many years ago. (The hinges were floppy and one arm swung in as I was putting them on.)
This is peak art. Also, that's not a half note, funny music man.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that this funny music man wrote a original song in an hour

NOTES FROM DANIEL
- make video better
- idk figure it out
It's the subtle details in the editing. Cracked me up!
“That’s not a half note, funny music man”.
Despite this, love ya vids- great job on addin’ bagpipes too! (They’re one of my fav instruments, alongside piano, so it’s nice to see ‘em used professionally)
I watched the old pixar short about volcanoes earlier today and this sounds soooo much like it
oh god this song is actually stuck in my head thanks for that
Daniel, the only musician we need but don’t deserve
Only?
Mr. Thrasher is the only person that can make bagpipes sound tropical
Feel like it's more of a "The musician w deserve but probably don't need. Maybe want? No, we shouldn't want that."
True he is one of them
@@itsonlyhugs9486 that's what I'm wondering 🤔
Wait, I actually genuinely think that sounds great: like 9/10
4:55 One of the funniest things Ive seen all year, Im not sure why T_T
The thing that occurred to me at first about combining ukulele and bagpipes is that bagpipes are much louder than ukulele. But not tuning your ukulele before recording and playing the instruments in different keys definitely adds to the barriers to writing a decent song! Though using just the chanter does fix the volume issue. The results are highly entertaining.
Loudness doesn’t really matter when you’re recording it. You can whisper and have it be the loudest thing in the track
@@TheDGomezzi True. I'm thinking as an acoustic musician who doesn't do that much recording. A full set of highland pipes in the same room as a ukulele and voice would completely drown them out if you were trying to do a live acoustic performance.
this isn’t dumb, this is peak art
Why can't it be both?
Embrace the power of AND.
I can't believe you made bagpipes sound great. Lol. Only person I've ever seen do that was a street performer I saw in London. ❤️🔥
ngl we played ukulele fromyr 4 to yr 6 and it was quite fun. Apart from the blisters.
"that is not what a half note is, funnny music man"
I have never been simultaneously so impressed and so horrified by someone playing an instrument than I was with Daniel playing bagpipes
I actually love how the song turned out.
“That’s not what a half note is, funny music man”
Now that experience was surprisingly pleasant
Daniel, where have you been all my life?! I am a serious sort of person who can't find anything funny UNTIL.... drumroll, please... DANIEL THRASHER! Thank you, kind Sir, for bringing the joy of screaming hysterics back into my world.
He- He did it, He made an original song. Your TEACH would be proud. So happy for you Mr. Thrasher🥹
So Proud of you 👏
50 minutes of recording plus god knows how much of editing for a 8 minute skit for us…….
honestly one of the most sane things Daniel has done for us💀
When you told the story about the cockroach, I was spitting out water after brushing my teeth, and a black bean the shape of a bug washed out the little crevice between my molars, had me on edge for a solid 30s
My two favourite instruments in harmony together finally, the ukelele and the drowning cat
As a ukulele player, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a masterpiece
It is awesome that the change in the bagpipe play gave the song a more Hawaiian touch with the slides. That's improv at its best
Its like a surprise party but one thats also an intervention
As a fan of the bagpipes, this was pretty good imo 😂
Release it please im gonna add it to my funeral playlist
That's not what a half note is, funny music man! 4:10
that is definitely what a half-note is, funny music man ty for the education
this legit seems like a theme song for a children's show with talking ukulele & bagpipes.
Even though that’s not what a half note is, funny music man, I enjoyed this video immensely, especially watching you play a pipe chanter by mouth. Thanking you.
P.S. you can use tuning tape to change the value of the notes, but it sounded much better the way you did it.

My mum plays the Ukelele, Violin and is learning bagpipes, glad to see two of them represented here of the "dumb" instruments

If you publish that I will listen to it on repeat all day
I like how he says "bagpipe solo" and then audibly continues to play the ukulele
“That’s not what a half-note is funny music man.” - a message from your editor😂

I didn't realise you could just... pluck the chanter out (just learned that term too) and play it without the drones. Is a bagpipe secretly just a shawm with extra steps?? I love that.
That's not what a half note is, funny music man. :P
And thank you so much for the original commentary posted on your video. It truly makes the content that much better, and I hope brings you more joy as you edit these videos, Daniel or editor.

As someone who loves the first How to train your dragon movie I adore bag pipes!!
I admire Daniel’s bravery. The entirely of Scotland is about to come a-knocking in vengeance for the bagpipe slander
After watching such masterful videos I cannot tell you how crazy delightful it is to watch you in a behind the scenes process of freaking out while you come up with this/struggle with the different keys / try and fix any errors. Just pure enjoyment. Please make lots like this.

IV - I - V - I
The in the key of Bb it would be Eb - Bb - F - Bb
You were in C, so retuning the bagpipe tracks (including the drones) two semitones up would solve your problems. But thinking on the spot, and with time limit is difficult. You pulled off a funny and engaging song anyway, even if it meant taking a slightly different route - that's sometimes very inspiring.
The 'crazy' background vocals responding to the main serious vocal is something I will definitely use in my music!
