- This DIY Outdoor Sofa or Lounge can be made with just 3 power tools. A circular saw, drill, and orbital sander where used to transform 2x6s and 2x12s into the base. I made outdoor sofa cushions using foam plywood outdoor canvas and a staple gun.

Nice project. Thanks for the idea. I might cut in some cup holders on the ends.
@t the guide can't be open, any other link?
You do not like to interact with people in the comment section 😘
Do you have meanwhile the drawings and details online? Can't find them at the page...
I couldn’t find this on your website. I’m new at diy and needed measurements 😢
LOVE THE WATERMAN PEN💙 THE LOUNGE BED IS SIMPLE BOLD & BEAUTIFUL....❤🧡
I'm a mother, not a father and I want all these 'fatherly" things you featured! I'm not into diamonds and all that jazz. I want a freaking wood shop and an area where I can do some metalwork as well! Guys get all the good stuff LOL
I'm a father and i want one of these too!!!! LOL great video, very original!
Another great looking design, I like the way you make cushions without sewing
What I really appreciate about Ben's designs is that all of them are extensible and customizable to individual preferences or flairs. Really inspirational, simple and common-(wo)man friendly. Speaking of flairs and woman, where was Jesse to kick this up a notch or two?
Awesome project. Simple yet elegant. Thanks for another great video.
I like the side over hangs, also acts as a side table 👍
LOVE IT! After we build our floating deck this is next.
This is awesome! Summer project! 😀
Do you remember the days when you could by wood?? The good ole days..
Will be definitely be doing that.
Thank you.. Great build!!!
Simple and comfortable.
Absolutely awesome project!
wow, stylish Project, love it
nice i liket this outdoor
This is cool to make..looks great
Love the legs, reminds me of steel i-beams
Nice work Ben! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Beautiful 🌸
I loved this.. ! Future project 🤪
nice clean design. I liked it!
Love it!!
Congratulations boss 😊💪👍👍👍
Best wishes
Well done
Nice video. Very inspirational.
Canvas was stretched incorrectly. Always start in dead center on each side. Put one staple dead center left side, then one dead center right side, then one dead center top, one dead center bottom. Continue this process of one staple at a time on each opposing side and you'll get a tight fit, no bunching. Pull each piece of canvas tight before stapling.
very simple cool desing
Be careful using canvas outdoors. Some of it mildews beyond all hope without even getting wet. I refitted director's chairs with canvas and they were completely moldy black within a week -- always under a roof and exposed to no rain or humidity during that time. I used every possible bleach and mildewcide to cure them. Alas, the fabric was immune to recovery and they went to the trash. I make a lot of outdoor cushions and have taken to pinning fabric samples to the clothesline for a week or two to test prior to using it. (Discovered that birds like to steal the fibers for nests in spring :) I figure it's my contribution to 'Abitat for Avianity.)
It's handy to build AND sew. I'm having loads of fun with Homemade Modern.
I’m encouraged to see that I’m not the only one who has to hammer staples the rest of the way.
Nice
you have a true hard life!!
Just so you know, that speed square has an angle finder built in. Great vid! Thank you for sharing!!!
Man, thank you for sharing. :)
Thank you.. Great video :)
simple is the best
good job thanks
Here's an idea, you see that Weber grill you got, take out the grill part and build a diy portable grill/bar station with drawers
IDK exactly what type of outdoor foam you used, but depending on that, I'd like to suggest you drill holes in the support board you put underneath the foam so when/if it rains, the foam can both drain and air out/dry faster.
Hey Ben, I have a challenge for you: an indoor couch, that is convertible to a comfortable guest bed.
Awesome videos! keep up the good work!
Lol, keep your guests outside))
Cheers! Great idea, though!
Obrigado 💙
You can use a speed square to measure 30 degrees.
pretty convenient
Man your stuff is so simple yet so amazingly clever. One day I’ll be sponsored by amazon too 😊 keep it up!
Very cool design. & about the homemade cushions, you’re a god. I never realized how expensive outdoor cushions are, omfg 🤣
Nice! 😉👍👍
I like it
Absolutely love the structure of the video. Love how everything is explained. Thanks 😊 I'm in the process of renovating my Lanai...and the way my wallet is set up ....I would rather build my own custom furniture. I've built indoor pieces before ...so wish me luck.
Sofa is ok. But the view on nature is much more awesome!
Cool
bagus bgd jd pengin bikin langsung sendiri
Nice build Ben!... Cushions don't look significant enough for my big butt however I can always just adapt it to a thicker piece of foam :-)
Hello! Did you rip the 2x6 in the middle at the 30 degree angle? I looked for the plans and did not see it. Thanks
Nice, good basics to customize (I’d probably go for a 3-4” cushion for overnight sleeping under the stars). And I admit I’m lazy...for the seat, I’d just screw all the boards on first, and then snap a line and cut the ends to their length in one fell swoop. Wouldn’t have to measure and cut each one, and they’d definitely all be even;). Wouldn’t take much more for a little adjustable sun awning with the same fabric, either, or a rain roof just a bit bigger on a little frame that could either be up out of the way, or tilt down over the whole seating at an angle to let water run off onto the ground, maybe some of that clear wavy greenhouse plastic. Always looking for a way to sleep out in any weather...
do you think this could be done with cinder blocks as the base instead? Drill holes and use rebar to keep it from moving?
would love a breakdown of your power tools for both carpentry and metal work
Looks great! Have you done a outdoor kitchen project? Would love to see how you would have done it!
Are you building/built a "container house"??
Just curious, I'm trying to get one built but I don't know the right people to get it done from "dirt to drawers ".
Love this thing.
Problem is I have no skills.
What an amazing design! How did you ever think of it??? LOL. We laughed so hard when we saw this
That was not easy that’s actually very difficult, but thanks for inspiring me to do some outdoor cushions
Amei.Queria um desse pra min.
I'll take a good look.
Why not just use the speed square to mark the angle?
This looks great! Any idea on the estimated cost including the cushions?
I love that idea and showed it to my wife. She agreed and we will be referring to this when we build something for our deck. Washington weather 🌧️ will require a few changes, but the functional design looks perfect for us.
Constructive Feedback: I did find the type of ad here... unappealing? I do understand the dynamics and pressures of content creation and support the use of sponsored content. I just wanted to provide my unemotional feedback as you weigh the types of sponsorships and how they are integrated into your future videos. If you would like my specifics on my point of view let me know; I'd be happy provide details you are interested.
muito bom
What is the name of the yellow "handy device" that helped with your angles?
I liked very much, but It didn't seems to me how you solved the angle between the back and the seat. I mean, the 2x12s have a simetry that you broke in that union. If you didn't understeand much is because I'm from Argentina and my inglis ins't very good.
How do you like that cordless circular saw?
how many sponsors did you manage to pack in this one? impressive
Just enough so you can watch it for free.
just one if you were paying attention. and god forbid that someone we like, who is putting out great instructional content tell us about stuff that we are probably interested in so he can pay his bills... How often do you write in to the TV stations complaining about the commercials that they put into their programming?
That was a genuine compliment. I wasn't complaining.but If you saw only one sponsor in this video you must have stopped after the first 5 seconds
Where are you getting cedar in Southern California?
Where ur loc nice view with mountain. So relex. Im view from malaysia.
the speed square has the degrees????
Oooo is there a new house build video soon too?
Reminds me baby chairs I use to make in upholstery..
i just cant handle the mess in the storage crate. Cant u build some shelves and stick tubs in there or something?
If you make the chair with diagonal patterns would be nice. Harder to make though
I like that you actually try to properly integrate the sponsor stuff, the fountain pen is a bit off, but whatever; the garage vacuum _is_ cool -no, I mean it sucks. ;D
@homemademodern where are the plans, please? Thanks a lot
What screws are you using? And why is the wood not breaking when you screw without a guide hole first? I would love to be able to screw wood the way you're doing it but my screws always end up splitting the pieces.
Try more expensive screws like spax
How much do the lounge end up weighing?
You should have put some whole as cup holders on the side but nice build
Great build and I actually liked the ads.
Wonderful video but OMG easy on the commercials ... they were almost longer then the build video. but I know they pay the bills!
Making videos ain't free.
Como estaría tener allá explicacion en español 🙏🏼🙏🏼

What is the angle tool called?
Love the project. My only concern would be if the canvas will be cleanable or washable, and how to remove it. Otherwise, great job.
Not really a problem. With my outdoor cushions, I just hose them off, and occasionally use a scrub brush while they're still wet to brush off the bird-do. When you have removable cushion covers, it's really a hassle to take the covers off the foam, wash, dry, and replace them.
How many yards of fabric did you need for this project?
Not bad.
You know you can get the angle by using the speed square.
By far the longest CZcams video ad break I’ve ever seen. It’s like cable tv all over again. I hope amazon paid you well for that.
Mine will have a cup/beer/remote holder cut into the overhangs... #djrtnyc
make the cushion fit your body from toe to head (with pillow) then extend wooden section a little bit like in the video.
This project will be great for my front porch. Right now I just have 2 of those zero gravity chairs and I feel that this would be perfect. Thanks to HomeMadeModern for this.
Why don’t you look into getting a chop saw
Also for those complaining about ads, if you're on PC, use your arrow keys to advance the video. If you're on mobile double tap the right side of the video to advance. You can skip stuff you don't want to see.
Plans??
Do you get tired of me telling you that I think that you are brilliant? Cuz I am saying it again. I love the cedar against the grey. Great project, your dad is going to love this gift.
What’s up with the shipping container house?
