My grandfather had dementia and on Christmas he would come across his peanut brittle over and over and be so happy every time. Sounds pathetic but it gives me a grin.
I made this last night. Is your grandmother the secret creator of butterfingers!? It's delicious and it's legit like eating the inside of a butterfinger but with nuts.
So I just learned this and thought I would share - If using raw peanuts add them at the beginning, so they cook along with the sugar mixture. If fact, by doing so, you'll flavor the sugar mixture, giving everything a nice peanut flavor. If you are not using raw peanuts, then add them when the mixture is at 240 degrees. You then proceed as normal with the recipe. Hope that helps, 😊
Those were the good ole days when we made our own snacks!!! Peanut brittle, taffy, chocolate drops, cupcakes, banana bread, preserved prunes & apricots. No time to make candy or snacks, we went outside n harvested some sugar cane or banana or mangos for a sweet treat!!
Great video as always so well presented on the peanut brittle looks absolutely delightful and I also would like to comment how fabulous so you look in red merry merry Christmas
Yes! I nailed it! I tried it the first time and totally muffed it. But I knew it was something I did. Tried it again with a more accurate thermometer and PRESTO I have Grandma's peanut brittle!
I wish that I had someone like Yr grandma in my life, wait a minute I've got you. Thanks for sharing all Yr great stuff with us. All the very best frm England
(My) Gram’s peanut brittle is the best, although I am 😊sure yours is very, very close! 😉 similar but no butter or vanilla or thermometer 🌡️ actually…cook til mixture spins a thread …I have had a few flops so I am sure yours is much more consistent! She made great fudge too, especially the peanut butter, but I never learned how to make it! Aren’t Iowa Grandmas the best?!
You're making me hungry and my mother-in-law used to make peanut brittle but she did hers in the microwave. I miss her so much thank you for sharing a recipe
Why don't u spread it out? Did it level itself? Asking because I want to make this for my mom, she loves peanut brittle, she's 86 years old but still has her teeth, lol!
What is an alternative nut to use? My son is allergic to peanuts and wants to try brittle. Will it be good with macadamia? I feel like almond is over used as a substitute.
OMG! Brings back such fun memories. My mother would make this, wait until it cooled, and take the pan out and drop the pan on the patio to crack the first pieces in the pan! 😂😂 ❤❤
I like the asian version of peanut brittle: just hugely up the percentage of peanuts to sugar and skip the horrible baking soda. Skinned peanuts are best and some of the peanut oil softly crisps the sugar brittle along with the butter. Add sesame seed if you like. Cut while warm into peanut bars stuck together with caramelized sugar (and butter).
Oh yeah! I'm trying this. I make toffee every year, so much every year that I'm at the point of almost hating it. lol. Time for something new. Thanks. 👍
In india we make something similar to this. We call it CHIKKI we use jaggery instead of sugar and corn syrup which is a healthier alternative compared to sugar.
My grandfather had dementia and on Christmas he would come across his peanut brittle over and over and be so happy every time. Sounds pathetic but it gives me a grin.
That's precious 😊
it doesnt sound pathetic at all, that is very sweet and funny
❤
Growing up, in the 60's, I had a cat that liked peanut brittle. It always makes me smile.

No butterfingers just use brittle as their core

I’m going to try this! You make it look so easy to make candy!
It's easy but you must have a candy thermometer. And if it's something like divinity, it won't set up in humidity.
Amazing!! Looks absolutely delicious...🥰

Would you mind writing the recipe out? Looks wonderful and lite on the tooth! TIA!
Oh YUM!
How did you know I was thinking of making it
Wow, delicious
Looks great, but why raw peanuts? Will the heat toast it while it cooked?
What is an alternative nut to use? My son is allergic to peanuts and wants to try brittle. Will it be good with macadamia? I feel like almond is over used as a substitute.
My great aunt would not share her recipe, but her peanut brittle was stretched so it was thin, not thick pieces. The best!
Are you using medium low heat or medium high?
I love your recipes !!! I must try this. Does it have to be raw peanuts?
❤ it. Can I used walnuts instead of peanut. Please let me know
Yum
Could I do this with different nuts?
My mom makes an Indian version of this peanut brittle! She adds fennel seeds and tops it with shredded coconut ^___^

Have you ever made peanut brittle in the microwave? It is fantastic.
You should compare this to "Peanut Chikki" - a peanut brittle snack in India, using Jaggery instead of sugar, and Liquid glucose
What is the recipe? Please
👌👍
In india we make something similar to this. We call it CHIKKI we use jaggery instead of sugar and corn syrup which is a healthier alternative compared to sugar.
