    In this video we take a look at what you should do if you accidentally disarm in flight, when flying with INAV. I have seen posts and messages from quite a few people who don't know what to do, and have lost models because of this. So I thought I'd make a quick video to show that it is possible to re-arm in flight. Not only that; it's actually pretty easy. TL;DW, Stay calm, get rid of the stats screen, and check for blocking messages on the system messages.

    I like the look of the sim you are using, you refer to it as hardware in the loop, can you please explain.
    Many thanks

    when you disarm in real situation - you get a black screen - cause video is off. You wont have osd. So be calm and just re-arm and video will back :) I did it a couple of times..

    Disarmed in flight, I was super lucky that I wasnt like 10km away at the time, but could have gone horrible if my plane wasnt a good glider. I dont know what kept me from rearming tho.

    You could have the momentary switch to override everything to have an armable state, flight mode,throttle pos, etc..
    Then use it when u rearm
    That way can rearm quickly and even get the same mode and throttle you had when you disarmed

    So Darren - what essentially is the difference between a Dark Blue highlighted Mode and the Light Blue - I've struggled with this over the last couple of days - been difficult to understand why my quad was not Arming - no mention of the color change in Wiki or any other sites ...joe

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 7 měsíci

      Dark blue means that the switch position is in the correct range to activate the mode. Light blue means the mode is activated now.
      The flight controller decides when the mode can or cannot be activated. For example, arm will always be dark blue. The flight controller will refuse to arm under normal circumstances on the workbench. However, if you bypass the safety checks and force it to arm. The arm mode will turn light blue.
      Before the 2 different blues; you’d have a situation where a mode could work but with no indication that it could.

      Yes, I believe so. To be honest, I still use auto launch on a switch. So don’t have that problem.

    Thanks for this video, very helpfull. However I don't see a reason to disarm a fixed wing in midflight at all. So why not disable it.

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před rokem +1

      You should be able to disarm instantly for safety. There is no 100% guarantees that the plane is still flying. So it must err on the side of caution.

      I don’t really follow you. The PIDs are set, and don’t change unless you change them. To adjust how the stabilisation behaves, you change the PIDs.

    So you no longer need to use your old video to enable you to re-arm in flight ? Just stick in eg. Manual, throttle down, Autotune off & re-arm in flight ?

      You only ever needed to do what’s in this video. It has always been the same. My other video just means you don’t need to to any of this. Just re-arm with the switch.

    what are you calling that sim hardware in the loop?

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před rokem +2

      Hardware in the loop is the ability to use the flight controller to tell the sim what to do. The sim itself is X-Plane 11. There’s a video in the description explaining more about it and how to get it working.

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 10 měsíci

      Yes, once you arm, autolaunch will likely immediately trigger due to the speed. Just wiggle the roll to cancel it.

    Re-arm will reset your rth too...

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před 10 měsíci

      No, it shouldn’t. The arm position should only be set on the first arm after applying battery power.
      Maybe it could on an old model that you have been upgrading via diff for a long time. The setting to update the home point every arm was changed to first arm in something like INAV 2.0.

    If you're using the Dji 03 air unit the second you disarm it goes into low-power mode and your video just disappears .... So if you haven't exercised exactly what to do you're screwed.... I just lost my AR Wing pro this way..... It's gone forever.... It Went into the thickest nastiest Bush anybody's ever seen and I forgot to have the buzzer turned on 😭
    I have since changed the arm disarm switch to the small flat button on the back of my Zoro controller, push the arm.... Three-second hold to disarm with heptic feedback..... Along with VTX power on the other small flat switch on the back.
    So it's easy to Arm and turn the VTX on but you really have to mean to turn it off... That was a $600 lesson😢

    • @ericnelsonnn
      @ericnelsonnn Před rokem +1

      Disarm_kill_switch = OFF will at least only disarm if you're off throttle (below min_check). I now use fixed_wing_auto_arm so I can't disarm no matter what once armed, which is done by just throttling up. I also disarmed accidentally on my Zorro once and for whatever reason it wouldn't rearm even with Darren's bypass logic programmed, so I had to crash land. Since then I don't trust any re-arm tricks and prefer it disabled completely via auto arm.

    • @SJV82
      @SJV82 Před rokem +1

      @@ericnelsonnn oohhh....I like that idea also... I don't think I'm going to trust any rearm tricks either that was just too expensive... I had all my bases covered besides accidentally disarming.... NOT gonna happen again.

    • @MrD
      @MrD  Před rokem

      Got to say guys, I’m really not a fan of blocking disarm. It is there for safety. I don’t really get why the rearm logic wouldn’t work. So long as you are flying fast enough, it should rearm. But, I do think that the ability to rearm should be built in to INAV if it still thinks you’re flying. I think if that was there, and rearming was just flicking the switch. There would not be any need to make disarming harder. Which at the end of the day could cause people injuries.

    • @ericnelsonnn
      @ericnelsonnn Před rokem

      @@SJV82 yea, I always just told myself to pay attention when switching things while flying, I thought I was good... But I was using switch SE for arm/disarm and I was using the 3pos above it (SB) for OSD on/alternate 1/off, and the first time using the osd switch, I had it OFF and I started losing video feed so I kinda frantically went to turn osd back on and flipped my arm switch below it instead... Whoops. I tried to rearm a few times and it seemed like it did rearm but I had no throttle, even after disarming and re-arming a few more times until I was too low and had to just crash land. It was probably something I messed up as a user, but either way, I don't want to have to think about extra steps/tricks/workarounds in cases like this.

    • @ericnelsonnn
      @ericnelsonnn Před rokem +1

      @@MrD I don't know, I programmed it using your video and it worked on the bench but didn't it the air. Could have been something I was doing, I can't tell in the video recording and didn't save the Blackbox log. I get wanting safety due to various levels of user competence and general human error, but I personally prefer auto-arm where it arms as soon as I touch the throttle and can't be disarmed again until a power cycle. (I've found it will still disarm when it detects I've landed though which is nice so I still get the stats screen). Basically it's no different than just having a receiver and no FC, you don't have to arm those either.
