Paving the way is not for everyone. And most of us who end up doing it didn't really set out to do it. This is exactly the thought process my husband and I had to go through before we moved to Senegal. We had to evaluate the lifestyle changes, financial, conveniences, etc. In the end we knew there would be an uncomfortable phase but the vision we had to create the things we wanted here, and the ease with which we were able to do it outweighed all the other stuffs.
There's a solution to lights out...solar. There's a solution to not finding employment...create multiple businesses. Yes, the way things are done is different, but there's always a workaround or someone you know that can hook you up with a connect at the bank or phone company so you can cut the 4 hr line. But at the end of the day, it's a matter of doing what you want to do.
If excuses and reasons stop you from making a move, then it's not what you want to do. And that's okay. If and when they really want to move, they will, and nothing will stop them. They just gotta get over the mental hump that is fear of the unknown.

Great video...Ghana is not for everyone, we are conditioned to the luxuries found abroad in the UK, US, etc. and that is fine. However, I seriously think we should consider investing in the motherland. Why not invest in our own? Why continue to spend your hard earned money in countries that you know don't like you? So, why not consider building rental apartments, buying land, open a business, etc. I. believe if you plan it right, you can keep your businesses running abroad and live a much more relaxed life in Ghana, using your UK pounds or US dollars...the only issues would be the trade off in terms of good roads, good customer service, etc. Who knows, maybe in a few years the brothers may revisit their decisions after Ghana has evolved a bit more. We also need to remember that in the 50's and 60's in England they didn't have showers, most people took one bath a week and before then, they had bath houses...yet people lived with it until things improved. I will make the move to Ghana and help them improve by contributing my knowledge to the country until things get better. Let's invest in our own. -- Thanks for another great video Dela...I hope wifey and I run into you in the mall. 😂

I really see how Blk women are leaders. Blk women will venture into the unknown and take risk to pioneer making business, build an infrastructure for themselves, their children despite the issues they may face in holding up a family, building a house, and even in separation being in another country from what they know. Giving a Blk woman flowers and showing us love is not Blk women against Blk men. In fact, Blk males are to be saying the same things but they spew the upmost hate in many cases. So really you are showing you have a problem with Blk women even when you maybe one.

You have a nice looking family, I think the challenge for Ghanaians trying to move to Ghana is the opportunities are limited, we need people in agriculture and production, and even then, you have to arrange your capital supply. And have multiple income streams.
People with professions in the service
Sector and creative sector who expect to be employed cannot Currently be assured of that.
For now it's better to come on holidays and travel around lthe country and look for opportunities, stuff that you see a gap in the economy, but the other challenge is culture and language, and understanding you will be looked as a walking ATM,but we Ghanaian cannot expect others to make our country a paradise, only we should do it, otherwise the Ghanaian diaspora will be "neither here or there"

The fire that Black men are supposed to have in their bellies for establishing our own nations and systems, WE HAVE LOST! We have allowed Europeans to extinguish (through employment and education) any hope our forefathers has for us to contribute to the building of our own economies and systems that could rival the West.
I wouldn’t dare raise my children in America one day longer than is necessary!

You see I leave in Ghana now but America is home and where I live in America, I am not afraid to go for a walk, go to the Mall, go to the park because there isn’t that kind of violence in the city where I live. I don’t have security system around my house or in the windows and I get a good night sleep.

I also never gave going back home any consideration when I was in my twenties. I am obviously generalizing here, but men for the most part, don’t always think big picture. It was my wife who forced the conversion on me and I am so grateful that she did. The timing was also right because I was older and the conversion revolved around where we wanted to retire. Obviously a conversation like that wouldn’t make sense when you are in your twenties. Bike ride facilities make more sense then. My wife grew up in England and I moved to the states as a teenager. We live in the States and agreed that the west is not where we wanted to retire.
I am not a western world basher but the culture will lure you into focusing on superficial things that your literally have to work around the clock to maintain.

I loved this video, Della One of your best yet. But I must say I agree with your brothers. When you have been coming back and forth to Gana, most of your childhood, you don’t have the same rose tinted spectacles as someone who comes for a holiday, then decides that they’re moving their whole family back. call me controversial, but I seem to find this a lot with Americans who are coming to find their roots or just because they think Gana is some kind of utopia, promised, land et cetera et cetera. Most British Ghanaians have been coming back and forth since they were children or teens, so they know the pros and cons about moving back. and I know you are happy there, but you have had it hard over the last year also and it seems to me like what your brother said you’re trading one set of problems for another. And in my opinion I don’t think Gana is worth it. Although I love coming for holidays to see family, but I also love coming back home to the UK.

I feel that your brothers have been brainwashed by the UK and are suffering from Stockholm syndrome. How can you possibly argue against returning to your ancestral homeland? The UK will always see you as foreign and NEVER part of the majority and you will always be a second class citizen. I know your older brother said that he can give his children the best life in the UK, maybe materially but it goes much deeper than that, children need a senses of belonging which your cousins admitted they felt whilst In Ghana. I remember when I first went on holiday to Barbados as a child and remember how EMPOWERING it was to be part of the majority, seeing black people in all spheres of society, that feeling never left me. I have never felt at home in the UK and somehow feel like my wings have been clipped. I’m looking forward to live on the continent and finally FLY, as they say there is no place like home(despite the challenges). There is no glass ceiling in Africa and I believe that with the right dedication you can make a wonderful life for yourself.

I heard him say "what would I do here," if he were to move. Fair question. I think it's a critical question a lot of people fail to address before they make the move. Then after living on their savings for a year or two, then the frustrations and backlash start. So, if he doesn't feel he can make it here, I pull no punches.
