That was such an awesome fight. I honestly didn’t expect to see Alex do that good against Islam, as much of a beast that he is. I see both men staying champ for awhile in both their respected divisions.

Volk landed 70 Significant Strikes to Islam's 57. Volk landed 37 head shots to Islam's 36. Volk landed 21 body shots to Islam's 18. Volk landed 12 leg kicks to Islam's 3. Volk landed 6 clinch strikes to Islam's 12. Volk landed 6 ground to Islam's 0. The only thing Islam did better was clinch strikes and ground control. I thought the fights are to now be judged on damage and not ground humping?

This was MMA at it's pinnacle. Two fantastic fighters. Islam won it for me. It was close. Volk is class. This was never going to be an easy fight for Islam. Respect to both. No nasty or vulgar trash talk.

no way it was 4-1as per judges card but I wouldn't blame judges this time cuz it was pretty close matchup , I had to re watch it ,
surprising aspect for me for volk was his takedown defence and for makachev was his striking I never thought islam striking was that good cuz we never saw him, it is a rematch worthy fight, and it will be more interesting cuz now both of them have tested each other skills inside octagon , strategy in rematch would be very important aspect

I think he definitely did. Aside from the score cards which I edged slightly to Volk anyways, he was fighting in his home Australia and ended the fight with the most dominant round of the whole fight.
I know we as fans like it to be scored on points and that's it but home town advantage and ending the fight ontop of someone usually edges the judges decision in their favour especially considering he was the p4p champ. Thought it almost had to go to Volk even though it was a close fight.

Three clear rounds for Islam (1,3,4) , Fifth round clearly for Volk . Only 2nd round was closely contested which One judge gave to Islam the others two to Volk . It was fair and square unanimous decision. The only argument was about winning score , should it have been 49,46 or 48,47 for Islam .
All the confusion was created because of 5th round because it was not only the one that Volk won but also in Dominant fashion and fight closed while Volk was on top.The optics of final moments made most of casuals fan thinking that Volk might have some chance of success which obviously wasn't true.
This was a great high cardio level fight islam just about nicked it volk fought a great fight what a fight volks a great fighter with crazy cardio

Islam held Volk for 3 minutes and didn't try to hit him, didn't try to advance position. Meanwhile Volk took him down, knocked him down, advanced on him and was battering him. Islam's face was worse after and he had to be held up like Masvidal post Colby. Volk is a win or two from starting to truly be in GOAT talk. It is insulting that Khabib even gets mentioned let alone routinely in the GOAT conversation compared to guys like Volk who dared to be great and moved up, has already more defences, is just as dominant, easily.
If my 3 minutes u meant the 4th round, There is no further positional advancement than back triangle control mate its the highest scoring position in grappling as well. That round 4 was inarguably islam's by all judging standards in all commissions in all sport organizations. The only argument for volk 48-47 is if u gave him the 2nd and 3rd round. Which is fair, but by most objective standards islam won those rounds as welll. In fact, pre r4 and 5 islam was leading on significant strikes. Factually. Its a close fight but not a decision. And by luke thomas's words as ridiculous as a 49-46 is it is not egregious considering rd 2 and 3 are THAT tight.

This is taste of medicine for Volk.. Islam actually won the fight more convincingly than Volk was judged to have won his first two fights vs max..Volk thought he won those first two vs max but everyone else thought different especially Volk vs max 2. .but if they do have a rematch of volk vs Islam it would have to be equivalent to Volk max three... ...Volk would have to beat some light weight contenders first before they give him another shot at light weight title.. also nobody brings up the point..that it is an unwritten (but very good) rule...that in order to dethrone a champion you must convincingly beat that champion. This makes the challenger worthy of a title exchange ...if it's not a convincing win..the lean to having champion retain belt is fair and justify able cause he didn't get beat convincing enough warrant the glory of being deemed the New Champion
