Just to let you know, the Gamecube was more powerful and faster than the PS2.

so that's why PS2 games run better in my RP3+!! I had so much trouble running spider-man2 in the gamecube emulator, give up and played the ps2 version instead

@@farhanvampif you haven't bought a device the RP4 base is better than RP3+ or 405m. The RP3+ and 405m are the same performance wise but the RP4 base is slightly better the 4pro is the best for its price so far jan.17th 2024 it's capabilities far surpass the RP3+ ,405m or 405v.

I've owned my RP3+ for a month and it's been fairly pleasant experience for the most part. I think the biggest surprise for me was the ability to stream to Twitch and CZcams.

@@ethanhayward2424 Thought I would reply, on the 3+ it's very hit and miss.
You've gotta run games at 0.5x resolution, handheld mode only, and not all games run or run well.
I play a lot of binding of isaac repentance on it, it runs at full speed. Dave the diver runs at lower frame rates, same with Fez. Hades crashes.

I've been using the RP3+ to visit consoles I never owned personally, so far I've been loving PSP at 3x resolution, I also never had a GameCube so looking forward to playing some of its classics at even native resolution (and being able to play Soul Calibur II portably is going to be a dream-come-true).

I still remember buying the GameCube on launch on 11/18/2001. My favorite game was definitely Phantasy Star Online. I played hundreds of hours of PSO using the dial-up modem.
I miss those days, and that's actually one of the games I play on my RP3+😆

I tried to like it so many times and honestly pso was just so bad and boring.
I am in shock, I am able to run some of my favorite games on my RP3+ now! Need for Speed Underground 2 runs super well, even at 720p! I had to fiddle with the clock speed and turn off the widescreen hack for it, as the game offered widescreen. Thank you!!! So glad I can play Tony Hawk's Underground again! That was my childhood! lol

@@cankarahan8013 yeah, definitely PAL rom for GameCube! Runs a little slow at points. But doesn’t usually go below 15-20fps for me.

Lovely straight forward walkthrough. I applied these both to a Pocket 3+ and a Logitech G Cloud I received as a gift.
Would really love to see a follow up on recommended input mapping to solve for the very out there button scheme of the GsmeCube. Also I can’t figure out how to turn the on-screen overlay buttons off.
Gamecube mappings - Everything should be the same as normal (ABXY, start, LT RT, Control stick, dpad), except RB as Z, and the right thumb stick should be set for the C stick.
There is a "toggle controls" option in the in-game options, you can use that to turn off the onscreen controls.
The wii is the tricky one

I loved my GameCube when I was younger,I remember taking my purple game cube to work with my father at his hotel management. Day of reckoning and wind walker Zelda was mah jam. I pulled the trigger on this unit hearing you dorking out was the one over.
That's why the Gamecube had a handle, right? To take it with you everywhere. It's portable!

Good morning! Delightful as always. I'm not much of a cat person, but Hermione seems like the cutest, cuddliest cat ever. Keep those totally-not-inspired-by-Russ cat breaks coming. I'm in that camp of waiting around for the next batch of android handhelds to show up, but these tricks are going to be useful when I do get into the android side of things 🙂
Probably a safe bet to wait for the next round of handhelds. They seem to come out with a new one every other week at this point :P

Thanks s lot for this video. This settings works fantastic on MMJR and RP3+. Some 2d WII games are playable in 2x resolution or even more. Unfortunatelly sometimes I observe weird behavior of the emulator/Rp3+. One time some games are fully playable but next after device restart I have huge frame rate drops.
Oh weird. I haven't experienced that but I'll keep an eye out for that behavior and I'll see if I can figure out what's up.
I have the same experience. I’ll play a game just fine. For example I’m playing super paper mario and the beginning of the city I can walk just fine but when I turn on and play the same area, fps drops a lot. But I learned the put the rp3+ sleep trick and that helps with performance now.

Just placed my order for one. I'm really excited! It's already checked some of the game boxes for gamecube. Wind water and smash..hoping it can handle need for speed underground 2 maybe and some Harry Potter games. Also if test drive offroad wide open for ps2 runs I would love that!

@@TechDweeb The PS2 install base incentivized companies like Square Enix to push that machine to its limits. Gamecube didn't have the install base so it was never fully realized. On paper it should be able to play games more impressive than Valkyrie Profile 2, but we never got one.

Love your style, dude ^_^ I have heard that the main Dolphin nightly has incorporated all of the speed improvements of Handheld and MMJR and is superior now. It feels nice to not need to use an unsupported fork, but is it actually better now? Would love your expert opinion :)

Hey, I discovered something amazing, I've downloaded Dolphin MMJ (no R) and I think I'm getting even better results in my RG505, haven't tried in a RP3+ yet, but it's worth the trial, amazing results in Wind Waker and Mario Kart here.

Another great video TD, I'd like to add my two cents if that's ok...
MMJR - (My fav too) loading games through a front end will break save state... It's crazy it will let you make one you just can't load it see it until you go standalone.... Also I'd say this is the least equipped to handle wii motion controls IMO
MMJR2 - There is one feature on mmjr2 that makes me try it out first on any rpg/grindy game if you go into the in game options and toggle buttons there is a on screen FF button you can enable)as far as I can tell it's the only one with a FF button)
OG Dolphin-Emu - with recent updates i think they are poised to surpass the forks in compatibility and speed in predicting by the end of the year. (Also is the only one I've been able to get Metroid trilogy to work on without the coming out of ball mode black screen)
Dolphin for HH - i don't use this that much i know it has sub native rendering but like you say on the video dolphin slowdown is not usually caused by rendering).... But I'll give a try more often

What's different about motion controls between them?
@@mickeymickey9914 Again this is IMO, and I might be just doing something mmjr doesn't like, but it seems like I'm having to constantly fiddle around with the motion sensors in game to get the IR pointer to respond to analog stick input you have to have touch input to recenter,, buy that's on all of the emulators but mmjr seems to want some games to have motion sensors on but no pointer emulation, while other games will want pointer emu, and still others want motion sensors disabled.... something I run into with it... not sure if it's an everybody thing

Actually about the OG dolphin. I heard another tuber talking about how the latest beta updates makes it way better. Maybe that's true on some devices but it's not what I found on the RP3+. Lots of the games that worked fine on MMJR didn't play nice with official Dolphin (the latest beta). I hope they can get compatibility up to match the forks because it would be REALLY nice if we didn't have to mess around with 3rd party APKs.
still waiting for the day we get an inexpensive-android handheld that actually plays PS2 and Wii games upscaled (and no the Odin Pro doesn't quite do that)

Thanks as always! I'm surprised you leaned towards MMJR, I think in Russ' video (Retro Game Corps) I recall him heavily leaning towards the included Dolphin for handheld. Did you find it that different? I totally agree that whenever possible much more convenient to just stick with one version so you don't have to hop around all day like a maniac! Thanks again and loved the little cat break, always a bonus!
I'm glad that he was able to get this working with this version. The dolphin for handheld doesn't like being remapped, doesn't register my D-pad for some reason

Yeah Dolphin for handheld is great, it's way better than the official version of Dolphin, it's probably good enough for most people, and it comes pre-installed so that's a bonus, but MMJR definitely gives better performance, has many more in-game options which are important for troubleshooting, and it offers resolution upscaling which we can definitely benefit from which Dolphin for handheld doesn't do.

I watched a couple of your review videos before now and enjoyed them, but this is such an invaluable and thorough resource! And you offering that cheat sheet for free is straight-up incredible. But, I am having trouble using the Dolphin you recommended in this video because it only lets me use the on screen controls and not the RP3+ buttons which is frustrating for me and I looked through the settings and nothing works. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong here?
You'll need to set the controls in the settings (I know you said you looked, but it's easy to overlook exactly how) - Click the dots menu, then go to GameCube Input, then GameCube Controller 1, then click "emulated", and then you'll get an interface where you can go through each of the controls and assign them. If it's not recognizing your controls when you're doing that then I have no idea what's up and you should ask for help in the retroid subreddit. Good luck!

Thanks! The BKG is using the built-in animated background on the RP3+, the custom launcher is nova launcher, and the icons are a custom icon pack called Desaturate (download for free from google play store).

Hey Dweeb! Great video as always. You should do a RP2+ Android 11 upgrade guide. The instructions that come with the official download are kinda garbage. Finally I found a video by Marsettic that helped me out big time but I think the whole process could use some TechDweeb style. The new Vulkin drivers help reduce stutters to a small degree so It's definitely worth the effort IMO. It's also nice just to bring the RP2+ in-line with the RP3 in terms of game setups. Just an idea. Bye bye!

just ordered my rp3+ - cant see any videos or spreadheet entries for Wii - Spiderman Web of Shadows. A rare gem to play on a handheld (spiderman 3 is also not there). Any chances you may have tried these?

Another great video thanks. I've been using dolphin for handheld but I'll try mmjr. Unfortunately it won't work in retroid launcher or daishiso launcher. I've been having good luck with GameCube. Now 3ds on the other hand with citra.......
It does work with Daijisho, just go into the system settings for Gamecube and select '137 - gc - Dolphin org.mm.jr fork" from the "default player" list.

Great settings btw. At first they didn’t hold even though I hit the save button for some reason. And I started playing Luigis mansion and it was a stuttering mess. I’m like what is this guy talking about? Then I went back and checked, and none of the settings held. So I reset it up and it is playing perfectly.
When using the Dolphin MMJR on the RP3+ my inputs flash up on the screen when I press the buttons but I can't see how to turn that off. Anyone able to help?
Have you played 'Gotcha Force' on the GC? It's a good one if you haven't. Kind of a free-roaming fighter by Capcom like 'Power Stone" with a larger playing field.

Google dolphin mmjr apk, it's still out there you will just have to find it through a third party website. I never have much trouble finding it when I need it.

I'm considering getting this but I would want it mainly for the pokemon games on gamecube, but I've not yet found anyone testing those games specifically and meaningfully, so I was wondering if you could do so? Also, I would love to know if this device can (relatively) easily play GBA games but with multiplayer, like emulating a link cable or adapter. Thank you.
I can't test all the games for you but I just tried Pokemon XD and it worked okay. There were some visual glitches (a few flickering textures) and the framerate had dips but it wasn't terrible, I'd say it was playable. If you're buying this specifically for gamecube I'd say look for something more powerful because the performance is not guaranteed.
And yes, as far as I know you can setup retroarch for GB/GBC/GBA with link cable emulation.

I owned Coliseum and put a lot of hours into borrowed copies of Kirby Air Ride and SSX 3. I'm planning on picking up a handheld like this probably sometime this year. It looks like right now it would be able to let me play Gamecube with most of the titles I want reasonably, but since I don't have loads of time right now I figure I can probably wait until the next one releases and can do it cleanly at this price point.
Alternatively, I can get a new cellphone since mine's acting kind of weird. Decisions decisions.B

hello! I don't have full screen with 16:9 and widescreen hack on Gamecube... I have to vary Display scale + to get full screen... It is normal?
Hi T-Dweeb big fan, I have an RP3+ with Dolphin MMJR downloaded, in a game whenever I press the b button the game registers my input as both the A and B button, I've remapped my button layout but still have this problem. I have 2 other dolphin emulators that don't have this problem,please help.
Hmmm. I don't think there's an easy solution for that other than completely uninstalling MMJR and reinstalling it. Try cleaning the app cache & data first though. If that doesn't do the trick there might be some config file for MMJR on your device that you'll need to delete. I can't help you there, I'm no pro with troubleshooting android stuff, so I'd suggest asking on reddit if my easy suggestion doesn't work for you. Sorry!
Is there any chance you link the gba to mmjr2 so I trade my pokemon from emerald to colosseum?

The Non+ is not as powerful. Probably only about half the gamecube games will work on it. It's a great device but if you're into higher end emulation like Gamecube, Wii, PS2, or native android gaming, then the 3+ will serve you way better.

There's also a number of games with native widescreen. Change to widescreen in game, then select force 16:9. Soul Calibur 2 is one.
Oh darn I should have mentioned that. That's what I do with Incredible Hulk.
@@TechDweeb Here's my native widescreen list: 007 Nightfire, Beyond Good & Evil, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, Drome Racers, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Mario Strikers, Soul Calibur 2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, SSX Tricky, SSX3, Super Monkey Ball 1/2, and Timesplitters 3 Future Perfect.
could you do a similar on the powkiddy x28. I watched your review video which directed me here. I have done all settings etc and the likes of mario double dash is crawling. using mmjr2, European rom etc.
Don't go with MMJR2, go with the original MMJR (search google for "dolphin MMJR apk"), or Ishiiruka.
@@TechDweebThanks for that, that seems to make it better alright. some are still sluggish, perhaps its the powkiddy x28. Out of interest is it possible to swap out the sd cards. mine came with 64 but would like to put in a 512 just so could have a bigger library.

Nah the G99 is better by about 40% (give or take depending on the test). Why do you ask? Is that the chip you have in your phone?
Generally the T618 isn't a mind blowing chip or anything, most midrange phones made in the last few years will outperform it, but it's amazing for the price that it's being sold for here.
@@TechDweeb yeah. That's the SOC I have in my Android. So I'm better off just trying to expand the memory of my phone with a controller. I see.
Yeah probably. There are benefits to having a dedicated gaming device, but they're more personal preference at that point. I am doing a review on a really good android phone attachable controller in the near future, I got one to review and I've been really enjoying it. Stay tuned!

I don't get it, I run Paper Mario Thousand Year Door on the settings in the video (MMJR optimized defaults) its a us rom, and it runs 60 fps in the opening, and then the moment the title screen plays, the game shuts down and kicks me back to the mmjr screen
Try the PAL version.

Not for me, I don't think I'd enjoy the form factor, but I don't doubt that it'd be a good fit for lots of people. The form factor is the only difference between that and the RP3+ so no need to buy it if you already have a 3+ IMO.
Great build quality... i dont know. My black version has a crack now and i dont know how this happened. People say the black one is brittle. It could be.
That's a bummer. I think for the price it's a solid unit, it doesn't feel cheap to my fingers, but I haven't been unlucky enough to have anything go wrong yet.
