He was also consistently one of the best defensive guards in the league, in '67 he finished 4th in defensive win shares behind Russell, Chamberlain and Thurmond. if steals were kept he probably would've led the league.
closest comparison in the modern game would be Chris Paul, albeit Paul is a significantly better scorer.

would Kyle Lowry be a good comparison?

@@HipsterShiningArmor more like Brevin Knight or a shorter version of Jason Kidd. great playmaker with inconsistent shooting.

@@uberneanderthalFunny how Jason Kidd is known as an inconsistent shooter. I remember at Cal & his 1st few years in Dallas they called him Ason Kidd bc he had no J. Unbelievable that's his top 5 all time in made 3 pointers

Another good video. Players of that era get slammed as plumbers and firemen by people who want to denigrate the achievements of the top stars like Russ and Wilt, but there was a lot of talent in the league.

If he stayed in the Bucks one more year then he could've gotten a ring

Terrific video. Rodgers is vastly underrated and the ruling of assists at that time bear that out. In the 60's and 70's, players were credited with an assist when the receiver of the pass immediately shot the ball or took a singular dribble on a cutting play or looping pass in the low block. Magic Johnson changed the assist AND dribbling rules in 80's. Johnson and other 80's playmakers could now palm the basketball when dribbling and they would be credited with an assist if a player was in the act or process of scoring. This process included receiving the ball and dribbling 2 or even 3 times before putting the ball in the basket. The only NBA rulings that are more historically egregious is the fact that steals and blocked shots were not an official statistic until the 73-74 season.

This is why your amazing Uncle Hays, Guy Rodgers isn’t getting a CZcams video anywhere else. Not because he’s bad, because he was great but because so many people are uneducated on basketball pre-1989

Great video, and I think players of his caliber are a gold mine of potential content. Most fans will know about the best players at any given position from any given era. But that second and third layer deep and people either have no idea, or maybe know a name and a team, when those guys weren’t that much worse than the guys everyone knows.
