Tbh, I feel like the extra 30 seconds is only needed because the precision of controls is much lower compared to the original. I played this stage on Banana Mania and SMB1 back to back and noticed the difference immediately.
after reading the description, im glad to know im not the only one who thought that invasion was harder than in the original. i think they may have just increased the hitboxes of bumpers so they indirectly buffed the stage, but still. wierd how a free stage for me before gives me trouble now
The lack of precise controls made a lot of these stages way harder than the originals! I did find the "hold the camera downwards" strat helped on stages like Invasion (14) and Twin Cross (27).
Desert is one of the new songs I actually do like quite a bit; I like the OG, but I think the new track really fits. Especially since it's a stage you only play on high difficulties.
The new music is actually frigging good in it's own right. Some of it actually being an improvement over the originals, like the desert levels. That one is straight up fire. They can say what they will, but I feel RGG did a damn good job of preserving as much as they could of the originals considering the limitations of the Unity engine. This was far better than Banana Blitz HD in every single way too.
Oh God, Dodecagon and Exam-C are nightmares for me. Dodecagon, I can't count how many times I died at that one, have still yet to pass Exam-C. I love how the Monkey Ball games deceive you with their cutesy exterior, but in reality they are ridiculously challenging AF and do not hesitate to test your patience.
I still say they did a bang up job considering the limitations of the Unity engine. Sure, some elements and details are missing from the original environments and some of the tweaks actually made levels harder than before but overall they nailed the landing. I hope we get a new Super Monkey Ball game in the future. A Banana Blitz 2 which has all the original levels from Banana Blitz on the Wii, music and all, as an unlockable mode. That would make me happy and it would be a day one purchase.
@@markus8086 Yeah I find it kind of strange they didn't that was my favorite too. Honestly the direction of SMB BM's soundtrack was very sloppy in my opinion. 1/3 songs are new, 1/3 are direct remixes, and 1/3 are new songs with a small reference to their old counterpart. All is done without any real consistency too. It is very weird.
@@megablueman Honestly I like Banana Mania's soundtrack a lot. A good amount of the songs are better than the original, and the ones that aren't are still good.
Invasion for Banana Mania made me so mad when I played it today. The same stage in SMB1 and DX it is very different I would usually pass it without much deaths. They buffed invasion dramatically.
1:18 always wondered how to do that skip. Guess now i can try. But what you should do is go to the bumbers on that level and see if chicken still pops out on them.
It’s based off the Daruma (or Daruma Otoshi) game, in which you have to knock off blocks with hammer. Probably they want the title to match the japanese pronounciation (which is dah-loo-ma), but yeah it’s kinda funny.
It looks like the game lets you play the Extra stages for free? Honestly, I like that. I'm honestly a bit trash at SMB, but I love getting to see all of the levels. Cutting out some of the grind and playing without too much pressure will be nice.
I can do the rest of the stages normaly but invasion is the only one i felt i needed to use the jump ability because screw trying that last section another 30ish times.
14:54 why did they make the sky look cloudy instead of a clear blue sky like in the original artic levels? ( Oh! Because of the falling snowflakes oh!)
@@SuperMonkeyCherrim That's too bad. Getting to Master and Master Extra starting from Expert in SMB2 and Deluxe (I was never good enough to do it in SMB1) was extremely satisfying.
Yeah, I’ve played through every game in the series multiple times, consistently for over a decade, and got Banana Mania a week early so I was able to practice a bit before showcasing.
I could ace the monkey ball 2 stages with almost no problem, and get through half of expert without much stress. The moment i do anything monkey ball 1 i am absolute ass lol. It also sucks more since i never played the first
I find it funny how they nerf some stages yet Exam-C remains just as hard with the only difference being the time limit. In fact Cherrim did the faster acceleration make Exam-C harder? I could see that.
Overall the sound and the music seems to be smoothed out, compared to the original. The original OST really sounded dynamic, although a bit hippy, and the collision sounds really had that hitting type of sound, but the remake seems to have smoothed out everything. Kind of sad, I liked the original style better
Fortunately you can get the original soundtracks off whatever storefront you're using, so it's nice to see that as an option. The new music is quite good in it's own right though, unlike in Banana Blitz HD where it was clearly dialed in, they put a ton of love into this project and did an amazing job considering the limitations of the Unity engine.
It was courtesy of Super Monkey Ball DX’s Story Mode. There, Tub and Rising Inclines have the same names throughout Story Mode and Challenge Mode. But in DX’s Story Mode, Windy Slide/Sliders and Twister/Twist & Spin got their names swapped from their Challenge Mode incarnations. Hopefully that clears up some confusion.
The new music for SMB1 to me is an improvement. To me the original ost for SMB1 is kinda lacking. The new music fits the environments for SMB1. Monkey Mall is the best imo. SMB2 is where I start to prefer the original ost.
I kinda agree but kinda don't, the new music is damn good though, unlike Banana Blitz HD where they clearly dialed it in, they put a lot of love into this final product. The music being a prime example. I feel Desert and Arctic are definitely improvements for sure, the rest are decent but come up a bit short of the originals. Storm being an example of this.
@@DesertRainReads I agree with you. Storm, Underwater and Extra aren't really improvements. They're just decent. SMB2 and the Party Games is where I NEED to original music!
Okay to answer all your questions. Not all are in OG mode. The ones I can think of that got buffed would be Invasion, Twister, Curl Pipe, Diving and a couple of others. The death threshold is 99 deaths.
I find it easier to slowly turn the camera while barely moving. Start speeding super quickly then come to a slow stop. I beat it even with the timer almost running out.
Thoughts on the rest of the new songs: Desert: B tier (better than the original) Arctic: S TIER (better than the original) Storm: B tier (better than the original)
Man, that 90-second timer on exam-C is so deserved.
Exam-C is so hardcore they had to increase the timer by 30 seconds lol
It took me 20 minutes on original stage mode surprisingly, but I see why they needed to do that lol
Tbh, I feel like the extra 30 seconds is only needed because the precision of controls is much lower compared to the original. I played this stage on Banana Mania and SMB1 back to back and noticed the difference immediately.

That level is anxiety inducing
Yeah that one took me a while, pretty jarring too considering how it takes until master before the levels even near that level of precision
I knew I wasn't crazy thank god
Ah, interesting to know that it's easier in the original. It's one of my favourite levels in Expert, so I don't mind spending a while on it.
Yeah, it's way harder in this version!!

Dude, the remix to arctic frickin’ slaps. I thought they couldn’t improve on perfection and yet they did.
I listened to it for literally one second and knew I was going to love it
I wasn't sold at first, but as it went on YEP

This might be a weird thing to say, but the floor of the bonus stages look very...edible. Like chocolate. Especially Bonus Wave.

HELLO BANANA!!
I can't wait for this game!! Please entertain us by uploading these before hand!
I like how most of SMB 1's soundtrack got remixes of the original. Weird how Mall is the only one that isn't a remix.
Of course the only one to not get remixed is my favorite from the original. I'm not complaining, the new song is great too.

Invasion was buffed dramatically due to the fact I don't die on Invasion that much in the smb1 and dx version.
It's that camera 📸 it's terrible, and always working against you...
Nothing is harder than “soft cream” level in SMB2 normal -____-

If I’m not mistaken, which I probably am as I don’t remember well, using assist mode at any time prevents you from playing the extra stages. I think.
You can also play Master Stages if you beat all the Extra stages. So no need to worry about continues unlike the original.
