Thank you for these informative videos. I just did this fix on our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 42RE engine. It took me a little longer than expected but I was able to finish it. The most difficult part was getting the TCC Solenoid out. After coming back and finding this second video, I released the connector on the outside of the transmission housing - they definitely didn't make it easy for these large hands. After I released the connection, I pulled and pulled and it was very difficult to get it out. The connector finally snapped and the harness came out. I thought I was screwed. However, I pulled on wiring harness and the connector popped right out. The spring inside the piston had broken in two. I'm glad I purchased all the parts in one convenient package from Cascade Transmission. Re-assembly went smoothly and the Jeep is back in business. I appreciate all the individuals that post on sites like these to make repairs that much easier.

Thanks, I had no idea you could pull that connector out without removing the valve body. This eliminates the problem of reengaging the park rod.

I did this today and it took me all but 5-10 minutes alone. There is a bracket with a T25 screw on mine that was in line with the spring with the plug that held the plug inside so all i had to do was deal with the other spring. The hardest part was getting the harness to break free from the casing as the O-rings where hard from age, looks like my harness and sensors where OEM. Thanks for the video it really helped out!

BE SURE TO FILL THESE TRANSMISSIONS WHILE RUNNING IN NEUTRAL ON LEVEL GROUND
THIS WILL EXHAUST ANY AIR THAT's IN THE SYSTEM.

Important point at 1:20 which I missed the 1st time. 'Disconnect your external harness...before you try to drop this down.' By this he is referring to the External plug on the top of the transmission which feeds thru a hole on the top of the trans to plug into the TCC OD harness. It's impossible to see the plug without a camera but you should be able to feel two prongs on either side which if pulled out slightly will release the plug. It would be very straightforward if you could see the top of the trans which is somewhat of a challenge if it is in the vehicle.

Will I have to remove the Valve body to replace TCC and OD solenoids in a 1994 dodge ram 1500? I have a chatter at 40mph which stops when I hit the brake peddle. No Engine light codes. Some concern about Torque
Converter, Folks telling me that this problem could be caused by either or. Before I spend the money which is the most likely.

Is the long spring that you have to fight with the 3-4 shift valve spring? Mine is missing. I don't have OD either. I'm guessing those are connected, huh?

Do you have instructions for how to disconnect the external wiring harness while the transmission is still on the vehicle?

    • @Quadman808
      @Quadman808 Před 5 lety +3

on the outside of the unit, it's fairly straight forward : theres two tabs that you need to squeeze
Once the tabs are depressed gently lift straight upward on the plug - DON'T PULL WIRES, Firmly Hold Connector Itself
In this link look at the second photo and you will notice the tabs easier - i think there's one on the inside edge and other on outside edge

My transmission is hanging on 2nd then dropping hard into 3rd. Sometimes I have to shift the pedal a bit to get it to shift to the next gear. This happens on all the gears, but the worst one is getting past 2nd. Just started happening. It's not 100% of the time, but pretty frequent. What could be the cause?
I got a spare trans, but it's probably not much better than this one, and I would rather rebuild it. For now I have no time for that.

Should also add the pan was clean no burnt smell put fluid back in but now it smells kinda burnt.5.9 360 46re

the "RE" models only contain one speed sensor, i think you're referring the the govenor solenoid set ( solenoid & transducer )
      * did you check the 3-4 spring while in there and was it filled while running in neutral ??
      * also the boost valve retainer commonly broken when no reverse
** a burnt smell will always only be clutch plates or bands - Not What You Want

not certain what you mean, " Lost the plug "
It will come down with the 3-4 housing then remove the small retaining bolt
      * be sure to align the guide on bolt before making new harness tight or it will crack
