It has become increasingly obvious that Scotland has been steadily diverging from the rest of Britain, both culturally and politically, over the last couple of decades.
In Northern Ireland(NI), the unquestioned Unionist majority has nearly vanished, and politics is breaking out of the old, sterile, sectarian headcount.
The UK has got, at most, a ten year life expectancy.
Whether it be Scotland, or NI, which leaves first is basically irrelevant. Whichever does go first will cause the collapse of the UK...
The reality is that the English nationalism which drove Brixit does not give a single, solitary, damn about any of the three Celtic nations which make up the rest of the UK...

Part tongue in cheek. But the general gist is true in my opinion. Ireland was never that important for the Conservative and Unionist party.
But Scotland which has/had become fully integrated into the Union is something they would be willing to fight for.
Partly to do with the integrated nature of English and Scottish nobility that didn't/ doesn't exist with Ireland.
Partly to do with resources. Scotland is resource rich.

However, I'm now so happy for Scotland rejecting Boris Johnson's Brexit and his far right agenda. Like them, I don't want to be living in a country run by a far right Tory government. Same thing could be said about Northern Ireland (and whatever Kings/Queens we want to credit for that conquered territory.) 500 years of stiff-upper-lip English resistance - and untold buckets of blood - might be all for naught if Ireland is allowed unite the whole island (so as to properly seal off England from the EU). @bucketsandshims I think he's right about Wales. They're a respectable cut above the Scots and Irish and less prone to historic temper tantrums. If they do leave I am sure it will be a lot more dignified and a lot less pathetic than Scotland's failure to grasp reality.

I wonder if Ms Sturgeon has considered fully the consequences. She doesn't like trident but what happens to the local economies when the naval bases leave the Clyde. Does the Scottish parliament fund the Scottish regiments. With the world being urged by climate change to ditch fossil fuels like oil and with the EU if stealing the fish in their waters what then.

"Ten years is not a bad run considering the EU has only six to eight years left"?
The Brixiteers and British Euro-sceptics have been claiming that the ECSC/EEC/EC/EU is going to collapse in "...only six to eight years..." since about 1950.
They have been proven utterly, hilariously, wrong for just about 70 years. That is quite a long time to be so comprehensively wrong...
And there is no real likelihood that they will ever be proved right in the next 70 years either...
