    First off I love Dragon Age (almost obsessively so, it’s without a doubt the one series where I’ve played all the games, read all the comics and now I’m slowly making my way through all the books and one day will get around the the Seeker movie) and just knowing you’re also a fan and hearing you talk about it, make fan art etc always makes me giggle and it’s always a treat. Secondly I adore Solas, he’s like an art brother to my DA OC but boooy am I eager to crack an egg in DA4 every time I see his face😂

    Roman Szmal paints are truly a wonder to work with and you described them perfectly. For some reason though, I feel like they have this sort of "calming" quality about them. They remind me of coffee in a cold morning or something😅 I barely made any sense wow. Thank you for sharing your mixing process and I actually tried to adapt the same technique in my recent paintings. I love how it does make the piece more cohesive that way as every color has a trace of the other color and I just love it. Thank you so much for creating great content☺

  • @isaniart
    @isaniart Před 4 lety +44

    I’ve been trying out your method of only mixing in one well, and it’s amazing how much of a difference it makes. I feel like my art is much more cohesive, which makes me happy. So thank you!

    @ohbli_oh Před 3 lety +2

    Naples yellow with white in when mixed with Winsor and Newton smalt or a similar very violet blue (almost like ultramarine but more violet) mixes absolutely beautiful soft greys when diluted down. It’s one of my favourite colour combinations and I have in every palette. You could use that unwanted Naples for that.

  • @zerocalvin

    from what I learn Prussian blue is lightfast, however it's photosensitive due to being a cyanotype, it'll change color when expose to light, but it'll return to original color when keep in darkness for a while...

  • @PaulaBean
    @PaulaBean Před 4 lety +8

    I've been exploring 'reduced palettes' the past week, and it has been inspirational. For example, take DS Natural Sienna, DS French Ultramarine and DS Transparent Red Oxyde (a trio of muted yellow, blue and red), mix them in any wild combination to see what they can do, and then I used these 3 colors to make a few paintings. It's amazing to see that colors which are muted in nature can pop up as vibrant when surrounded by context which is more dull. Also, a paintwork done with only three pigments and mixtures thereof will make a very coherent impression. They harmonize very well.

    I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this but I watched Denise's review this morning (In Liquid Color). She was able to scoop out some of the paint from one of the Roman Szmal full pans and put it in a half pan to put in her regular palate. You may be able to do that for the small half pans that you have at the end of the rows as space holders to prevent the larger full pans from sliding around. That would be so awesome if you could! I'm thinking that high humidity will be the trick. So if you want to try and it's a bit difficult maybe find a way to create a small micro climate of higher humidity to place the full pans you want to scoop out and transfer to the smaller half pans. Hope this makes sense. :) Your videos are always so soothing and extremely helpful! You are so very talented and I am deeply grateful for you sharing of your skill, talent and passion!

    Not Italian, but Polish :) You can dig through their FB page to check the set you got. Judging from the packaging, it was one of the ready sets; there are several signature palettes by different artists. If you still have the cover/top, you'd find info right there. I was even looking at the labels that say "Made in Poland"... whoops xD

    I did something similar, grew my custom palate from a set of 12 to 28 in a meeden metal tin, I love them! And I really like how they have not been homogenised and the pigments retain their own characteristics. I actively wanted some pastels so one row is devoted to those. Haven’t had a chance to really explore them yet but intend to do some large paintings with them. Loved your use of colour and hope you have a great time with these fantastic paints, they really do give the very pricey brands a run for their money, don’t they. And I find messy pans when they arrive in their more hand poured state a lot less intimidating to use too..... thanks for a nice review, hehe, the better kind of confirmation bias - sharing great art supplies!

    Oh gawd. I saw this brand advertised the other day and was wondering about them - but since I already have a lifetime's supply of so many different brands... But now I'm craving some of those granulating ones... Argh!
    But I do love watching you paint. 😂💕

    Hi! Thanks for the review, it helped me to make a decision :^) May I ask the exact size of a full pan though?

    Hey! So it appers that we're developing some kind of hivemid, cause I did the same thing with white nights palette :D it's a pity that Roman doesn't have his own palette boxes. Boy, shaving that thing wasn't exactly quick :D

    Hey Arlee! Would you be able or willing to add all of the colors you swatched in the description of the video? I’m curious to know. Thanks for your beautiful art and this channel!

    I am playing Inquisition too, for the first time ever! I'm playing a human rogue archer and I would like you making a fun relaxing video about it, if someday you need video ideas! Also Aquarius Green is amazing and I think it fits very well Solas aesthetic and Veil powers!
    I have some watercolours from the brand, but what I find difficult is using granulating colours without lifting them (I used sennelier for a long time, and I paint mostly in washes) or making them seem too "worked on". Can you perhaps make a video about this? Some years ago you used sennelier (owning that huge palette is still a dream of mine) so it would be nice to have input from someone who also used them

      I was thinking about trying those out as well! They look promising from what I’ve seen on the internet (and in-store before this pandemic 😂). I’d recommend looking up reviews and videos on the watercolors if you haven’t already. 🥰
