  • Here is episode 2 of my Transformers comic book collection series! In this episode I continue with the original Marvel comics from the 80s. I cover issues 16 to 30, which features Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee, Blaster, Trypticon, and more. Very relaxing with soothing whispers throughout. Great way to help you fall asleep.

    From tfwiki.net:
The Transformers, the monthly comic book published in the U.S. by Marvel Comics, was the very first original fiction to feature the famous robots in disguise, as well as the longest-running. It started life as a four-issue, bimonthly limited series in 1984, but proved so popular that it continued publication as an ongoing monthly until spring of 1991. The series ultimately reached 80 issues and spun off several miniseries. The series established the Marvel Comics continuity, which would form the basis for several successor stories over the years. Marvel would publish the Generation 2 series only two years later, and IDW Publishing would later reunite several Marvel creatives for both Regeneration One, a continuation of the original Marvel comic, and the Transformers '84 prequel miniseries.

Spikes brother in the comics is named buster, sam is from the live action movies. You see, during the development of Transformers, Jim Shooter from Marvel was gonna name him Spike Witwicky, and the staff for the cartoon got that information, marvel on the other hand decided to chang his name to buster, so that's what his name was in the comics, but the animated series staff never got that update so his name was spike in the cartoon. When the fortress maximus toy came out, and spike was a figure included, Spike was brought into the comics and established as Busters brother.

The marvel comics got really good when Simon Furman took over as headwriter, he had already worked on the UK marvel comics, which if you haven't read, are really good, they got me to aprichiate the US comics more.

I'd love to read the UK comics. I've never seen them anywhere locally. I guess I could try Ebay but it would probably way to expensive

You know, One character that only appeared twice in the cartoon was Skids, if you don't remember him, I don't blame you, he only appeared in two episodes and didn't do much, Skids did get more usage in the marvel comics however. I do actually have a headcannon as to why skids only appeared twice in the cartoon. Acording to Skids' toy bio, "he's a daydreamer, who often bumps into things at 60 miles per hour, while pondering earth life, instead of a decepticon attack." With this info, it could be speculated that we didn't see him a lot in the cartoon due to him dozing off when he was assigned to a mission.

Haha. I guess that's why his name is Skids. He daydreams while he's driving and doesn't see the cliff he's heading for until the last second. He slams the breaks and leaves skid marks 😂

The Coneheads were introduced earlier in issue 17.
Edit: On a side note, I wonder if they got their coneheads from Ki-adi Mundi!

Looking at the cover for Transformers #16 all I can say is, so much for badassatron!

The Space Bridge appeared in the comics long after it debuted in the cartoon, so the comic took it waaay too litterly.

Yeah lol. It's a weird choice because I thought the way they depict it in the cartoon was pretty cool. They could have done something similar in the comic

I should note, a lot of the issues you're looking at in this video were drawn by Don Perlin, he co-created Moon Knight with Doug Moench.

Issue 23 came out the exact same month as Transformers the movie by the way!

Awesome! That issue meant a lot to me since it was like the only one I had as a kid. And the movie meant a lot to me too. Still does.
