      A contractor that cared this much would most likely cost more than every other contractor that doesn't care, so asking for a "reasonable" price may not be so reasonable. The best way of knowing you will get a good job done is the amount of time they spend with you explaining things and helping you figure out what you want.

    We put down kraft paper over the concrete in our showroom before tiling it. We change out the showroom floors a lot as we get new tile all the time and old ones go out of style. Kraft-paper makes removal of an old outdated showroom floor much easier as it isn’t bonded to the concrete.

    The video is great. I wonder how you would deal with a floor that is not exactly level. Would you use floor leveler first? Also, I have a narrow half bath and have picked out an 8x8 porcelain tile with a large star centered in the middle and small quarter stars in the corners. Would I start in the middle and work out so the cuts match or would I work from one side to the other?

    FWIW, you mentioned two types of sub-floor, concrete and wood. Here in Colorado, there are quite a few condos (and even some larger custom builds) with gypcrete (lightweight concrete) subfloors. They will almost always need to be leveled as well as primed and install an anti-fracture membrane. It is so porus and often crumbly, it will dry the thin-set too quickly and the bond will break not long after the installation.....

    • @justinofboulder
      @justinofboulder Před 4 lety

      @@TileCoach If height (build up) is a concern, I like a product called Protecto Wrap....as it bonds really well! I once had to remove an installation, (client paid us to redo a floor because she didn't like the tile the designer chose) took three of us two days to remove the tile and protecto wrap from 150sf of gypcrete. Had to use a blowtorch to heat it so we could break the bond.....

    Hey Isaac,
    How about doing a 7 day water test of Johns Manville’s Goboard backer board with KBRS showerseal sealant . Also , use KBRS showerseal seamless liner water membrane for the shower pan and joints .

    • @culturalhouse2643
      @culturalhouse2643 Před 4 lety

      KBRS uses a roll- on/ brush-on water proof membrane sealant for their shower pan joints in conjunction with a gauging fabric. For the wall joints they use their polyurethane sealants. Schluter uses the kerdi band with thinset for all their joints. Like you have mentioned before thinset is not waterproof , therefore all of your schluter test have resulted in leakage. I think KBRS/John Manville might be a better foam option than schluter because of the waterproof sealant that KBRS/John Manville use. What do you think Isaac? How about a test?

Fusion Pro Grout is one, Home Depot. It's premixed and will set up way faster than other grout so be careful if you use it, Its pricey but I use it and recommend it! Good luck!
