- Are you wondering how to tile a Floor? Here is an easy Installation Guide for Beginners.
These pattern tiles are great for a bathroom or laundry room floor. They are easy to install and will give you a fabulous, fun, and functional floor.
A step by step instructional video on layout, mortar spreading, cutting, and installation of tiles for a small floor. I always recommend the first tile install anyone should try to be a small floor.

Thanks for the video. Ihave been renovating my small bathroom and last weekend dry fitted and cut my tiles (also using a fun tile kind of like the ones you installed). I’m feeling confident and will lay my tiles tomorrow. My fist time… wish me success
Dang . That looks so good for eyeballing it . I'm impressed
Not many business owners still do the physical work. There’s something to be said about people like you. Love your informative videos.
You've provided excellent information all throughout your video video thank you for sharing I wish more child guys would do this.
If or when you see this comment I look forward to hear from you by for now God-bless.
We just laid down something like this in our small laundry room! Unfortunately I didn't see your video beforehand but I think we did alright. Going to watch more of your videos before we tackle grouting and tiling the walls.
Awesome video! Thanks for help. It’s so nice to have a pro on CZcams five sounds advice and care about the DIY communities! Keep it going!
Great video in depth of staying square . Thanks for taking the time to show this
Dam I just did a bathroom the same size and it took me way to long back buttering them and using clips. I cant belive you just threw those down like that so good lol. Nice
Hey spot on brother , I knew you weren’t gonna back butter , then I laughed when you pulled one up to show !!!
Thanks for the info. Going to add a stand alone tub to bath and wife wants it sitting on a tile rug. This helped a lot. Thanks
This is a great video. All the questions I had you answered them as the installation went on. Now I think I can do my laundry room soon. Thank you so much!!
As a business owner I appreciate your passion and teaching method. If I lived in Cali I would def offer my services. Thanks for the content!
i wish i could find a contractor, that cared this much about his work, at a reasonable price.
A contractor that cared this much would most likely cost more than every other contractor that doesn't care, so asking for a "reasonable" price may not be so reasonable. The best way of knowing you will get a good job done is the amount of time they spend with you explaining things and helping you figure out what you want.
What is reason and whos? To me 70-100usd/hour is reasoneable for a person who cares. 70% of the world will say say 10/hour is expencive
Skilled labor isn't cheap. Cheap labor isn't skilled
Another nice video. I enjoy each one.
Great video and great flooring tips.
We put down kraft paper over the concrete in our showroom before tiling it. We change out the showroom floors a lot as we get new tile all the time and old ones go out of style. Kraft-paper makes removal of an old outdated showroom floor much easier as it isn’t bonded to the concrete.
As usual, great work and easy to follow guide. You're a good teacher. If I was just starting out, I'd get into the trade. Not practical at 71.
Brilliant help, thank you!
Wow I feel like I’ve learned a lot, thanks!
Nice great work will be watching your videos. Peace ✌
Great video as always Isaac, wish i could work for a guy like you. Been doing tile work down here in Texas ever since i got out of high school. Haven't had much progress moving up because i do everything else so well and no one else does, so i get kept here in the same place. Your videos give me some hope that i will be able to do more some day. Thanks.
Great walkthrough Isaac, excellent tips throughout. You’re the Tile Coach of NorCal!
GREAT DEMONSTRATION THKS
This is a great video 👍
Gracias por los tips y está bien explicado, nunca he puesto tile pero estos trucos me van a servir para un proyecto q tengo este fin de semana.
I was taught to trowel in the same direction to achieve a great bond to tiles
with larger tiles, for sure.....prevents air pockets from preventing you from seating them firmly....
The best!!
Loving the videos bro.. all the way from southwest Florida!! So encouraging and helpful. I’ve recommended your channel to others as well.
I myself am getting into the tile industry world. I have but in the flooring business for a while but just carpet. I am just starting to install backsplash tiles. Any tips, or wise words for me. Also will get into floor tiles once I get more comfortable with it all. Thanks bro!!!
KNEE PADS PLEASE!!!
Love what you do.
That’s why I other video I commented to you about getting a foam board that cement guys use, ive been using it for years and I absolutely love it, much much better than knee pads. They have them at HD AND LOWES.
The video is great. I wonder how you would deal with a floor that is not exactly level. Would you use floor leveler first? Also, I have a narrow half bath and have picked out an 8x8 porcelain tile with a large star centered in the middle and small quarter stars in the corners. Would I start in the middle and work out so the cuts match or would I work from one side to the other?
Amazing thorough video - thank you! My question - i don't understand why you do use spacers during 1) the rough spacing layout, and 2) when you install it...as a diy person - don't you think that is a key step ? Pls let me know thanks!!!
Laser line everything with tile work.
*For those of us that don't have a built engage, What would you use to improvise that you get a consistent cut?* When you act better, Do you also put then sit on the floor?
Great video. Do you ever install expansion joints in your tile jobs?
FWIW, you mentioned two types of sub-floor, concrete and wood. Here in Colorado, there are quite a few condos (and even some larger custom builds) with gypcrete (lightweight concrete) subfloors. They will almost always need to be leveled as well as primed and install an anti-fracture membrane. It is so porus and often crumbly, it will dry the thin-set too quickly and the bond will break not long after the installation.....
@@TileCoach If height (build up) is a concern, I like a product called Protecto Wrap....as it bonds really well! I once had to remove an installation, (client paid us to redo a floor because she didn't like the tile the designer chose) took three of us two days to remove the tile and protecto wrap from 150sf of gypcrete. Had to use a blowtorch to heat it so we could break the bond.....
How do you feel about the DeWalt saw in comparison to some of the larger more commercial grade tile saws. Flip. Myrtle Beach
Devin the dude
Have you used the razer diamond blade it has a reenforced body to stop walking on the ten inch blade
Like your videos. Beginner. What size traul for 6 by 24 wall tile for shower wall?
Can I install this exact type and pattern of tile on walls ? I’m installing tomorrow 😅
My dad did some tile work for the first time. He used Spacer and the tiles are even on one edge, but by time he got to the other edge they were all very uneven. I wish he had seen this video before he did the work.
Can I install this exact type and pattern of tile on walls ? I’m installing tomorrow
Please do a video setting thin brick in a herringbone pattern. Should you make a border if the space is not squared?
awesome free hand no spacers
👍
What size grout lines would you recommend for 6x6 or 8x8 floor tiles similar to these?
Woah. That tile in the background in the beginning. White with the pattern. Where do I get it? In NY.
Have you tried the euro notch trial it has half inch and 3/8 inch notches every other notch
How about a video on tiles installation on floors over crawl space and deflection limits :-)
In one video you say to keep the trial lines going in one direction but then in some of your videos you have them going all over the place. I know it gives you better coverage when there going all in one direction
just back butter the tile before you stick it if the mud is a little set up
#tilegang💪
Would you consider 6" x 24" tiles "Large format" and would you back butter those tiles? Also thank you for all of your videos, not sure if it's a good thing or not but it makes me more confident for my DIY projects.
Yes. Back butter that bad boy.
@@jhightower Jake thanks for answering this question I looked forward to hear from you I have a few questions here myself
Back butter every tile always imo unless its a backsplash or mosaic
谢谢
I feel the same way about knee pads , I don’t use them at all . Because I sweat working and the strap hurts the back of my legs
Might be obvious but why do we have to leave space between the tiles? I’ve always thought leaving space especially when the tile has a design looks weird
Is that your shop ? Or a showroom for a retail store
Are those 24" x 48" tiles in the background? In a couple more decades, tiles will be as big as plywood sheets!
don't know where you are at but we install 118"×42" on a weekly basis.
Hey Isaac,
How about doing a 7 day water test of Johns Manville’s Goboard backer board with KBRS showerseal sealant . Also , use KBRS showerseal seamless liner water membrane for the shower pan and joints .
KBRS uses a roll- on/ brush-on water proof membrane sealant for their shower pan joints in conjunction with a gauging fabric. For the wall joints they use their polyurethane sealants. Schluter uses the kerdi band with thinset for all their joints. Like you have mentioned before thinset is not waterproof , therefore all of your schluter test have resulted in leakage. I think KBRS/John Manville might be a better foam option than schluter because of the waterproof sealant that KBRS/John Manville use. What do you think Isaac? How about a test?
Sounds good Isaac.
Will that tile need grouting?
No back buttering for these tiles?
Is that modified or unmodified thin set?
Do you seal your grout lines?
Most grout is made to be sealed ! Two coats on the initial install, and what most people don't know is, yearly after that! They do have grout that does not need sealing! Fusion Pro Grout is one, Home Depot. It's premixed and will set up way faster than other grout so be careful if you use it, Its pricey but I use it and recommend it! Good luck!
So you don't even use spacers on floor? For a non pattern tile? I like consist line
as a professional tile guy for 20 years.. many many times i do not use spacers on floors. i am so used to grout gaps that i can eye them up perfectly. dyi guy def need to use spacers haha
@@TileCoach was wondering if you used spacers at all on the floors, also you would have a skinny and joint and bigger joint
Also the tiles are Such crap at 70% of stores Like Home depot and Floor n decor they are all different size tiles, out of square etc,.using spacers would make the joints horrible after a row or two of shitty tiles. If you have perfectly square and sized tile then a spacer is OK to use.
I would like to know how much should i charge per square feet tile!!
Isaac Ostrom my last job i did took me 50 hours my first bathroom! Following your steps
Isaac Ostrom i did the floor and and the bathroom too ... the only mistake i did was the walls in the bathroom was really hard to level
no spacers?
I tried to tile my first floor today. I was so slow XD
No spacers ?
always use a 2. not a tape end
Wow,no spacers!
*where is the hat*
Good tutorial but man did your camera man do a terrible job. It couldn't have been more shaky and all over the place. Looks like he had a Gimble so it shouldn't have been so bad. He definitely needs some practise. Just sayin...
Very disappointed to see you using the tile saw without eye protection (you do get some points for the ear prot. though).
almost no one uses eye protection for a wet saw...
@@erickbad2000 sure, cause once those flying tile chips get wet, no way they can put your eye out. I see clearly now.
@@fredtooley4595 another youtube pro
If this was supposed to be for a beginner tiler....no spacers.. why call it a beginner video 😮
Beginners guide? Yet you don't even use spacers. smh.
Is the cameraman thick? He keeps panning back to Isaac when Isaac is clearly referring to tiles or the floor which is what we want to see. Show the floor, mate. I just stopped watching.
Let me give you a tip rookie, wear knee pads. ;)
Or calibrate the tile before setting them...
Man, you really are a terrible teacher. You show how to find a square and then show that you did it perfectly, but that's useless for a person who's room isn't square. How do you solve for that? You don't show or explain.
