even kobe was fresh off a run at the finals, but he and jordan are competitive freaks of nature, and are always down to play ball anywhere, and anytime regardless of rest or injury.
the world has stepped their game up recently, but the current US team is different than the previous ones. the same guys have been playing together for 3 years now. previously, the US would just throw a team of all starts together a few weeks beforehand. these guys know how to play together. of the 4 best point guards in the nba, three of them are playing for the USA (nash being the exception). jason kidd is the piece that was missing in 2004 and 2006. he will be spreading the ball around.
i think the reason they chose bosh (instead of Garnett) and michael redd (instead of someone like Ray Allen) etc. etc. is because they want a young team for the future so that they can rely on them in future international competitions.
i agree with you aussie international players are very good in outside shooting they can shoot everywhere coz they know its hard to penetrate the inside so we needed jason kidd outside shooting and not only passing the ball.
Hopefully the U.S team will win the gold. But up until now they haven't solved their problem in long range shooting. It's been their problem in international competition. They will need it most when they meet the high caliber teams.

i absolutely agree with you reno US needs pure shooters, unlike Dream team 1 who has Bird and Mullin as starters. US only got Michael Redd as a real shooter in the squad but comes fr the bench, hoping they add Allen for Prince, wow they really need to play smart to win the gold..

They already have Paul and Kidd at the point. Redd can shoot, as can Kobe and Melo. Miller would have been a good addition.
Well if they needed a forward, they still could have gone with KG, Caron Butler, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, or Rasheed Wallace who were all balling at the time.

You're right, Tayshaun's defense is better than Butler/Johnson. But I don't think coming off a championship has any affect. I mean Jordan was on the Dream Team when he had just come off his 2nd championship, and he played with Clyde Drexler who he had just beat in the Finals. That didn't stop either one from playing at the highest level.

Interesting how NONE of the big three from the NBA champs are playing. I don't know if they were invited or not, but I'm am really sick and tired of the NBA's elite refusing to participate in the olympics. Shame on Kevin Garnett and T-Mac. They continuously turn this great opportunity down tarnish America's international reputation in basketball. I am very happy Kobe has decided to play this year. He may not have another ring, but he has my devoted respect.
but that team was short enough as they were. their only post players were dwight howard, chris bosh, and carlos boozer, with carmelo anthony starting at the 4 to better utilize their shooting. that means howard was their only center. at least tayshaun prince has enough size to play either forward position. adding either allen or roy would create an even greater log jam at shooting guard since they would have to play behind kobe, wade, and redd.

KG and pierce were coming off championship runs, they probably would've wanted to rest that summer. and as much as i love sheed, he was already on the back end of his career at the time. not sure if team usa would've wanted him. butler and johnson are great suggestions though, i used to wonder why joe was left off the final roster. but was their defense as good as tayshun's?

They aren't picking an NBA team, they are choosing players who can win in the Olympics. Did you watch last summer's games. When he was playing, their offense was dominant.
In fact I think he should start. Yes, CP3 is better in the NBA, but this is a diff. game. They're going to see a lot of zone and there's nobody who moves things better in the halfcourt and the break than Kidd.
Another consideration:
Kidd has won before in international play.
There are plenty of gaurds....They should have left out Wade and added ARTEST. I'm sure everyone agrees with me on that.
The team is fine just switch Tayshaun Prince for Al Jefferson.

We could of used another shooter on this team like Ray Allen. Ray Allen was terrible in the first two and a half series and in the NBA playoffs. About halfway through the Celtics vs. Pistons series Ray Allen just started torching people. He played great in the finals too. Anyways Ray is probably one of the best pure 3 point shooters in the game and the only pure 3 point shooter on this Olympic team is Michael Redd.

If you wanted to send the Celtics to the Olympics that would be OK, but if you're sending the best team I wouldn't take Pierce.
Garnett or Allen I think would be wise choices. However, considering their age and the # of games played, I'd imagine, they are unavailable,for the summer.
However, even if he could I wouldn't take Pierce. (I don't think he fits in).

Think about how many people who play basketball in other countries say "It's my dream to play in the NBA in the United States of America" We have to turn down a lot of them too, because they are not as good as our basketball players/teams. If we played by NBA rules instead of FIBA rules, we would be winning by even more than we do now because our players have to adjust to new rules.

I don't think Pierce is fit for these types of games. Pierce is one of the most dominant scorers face to face. However, he needs to square his man up, hold the ball and do a lot of dribbling and spinning in the lane.

Against the defenses they'll play against (zones, I cant imagine anyone trying to play man) they need to catch and shoot; very little one on one action.
With that said I don't think Pierce is a good fit.

definitely not shaq, he sucks now and you can't have him and kobe on the same team (they hate eachother). vince carter is great at dunking, but otherwise he is overrated. shawn marion is good, but definitely not one of the top 12 or even 30 players in the NBA. i like that you picked gilbert (he's my favorite player), but he was injured all year, so he might not be completely healthy yet. iverson is great, but he's not as good a passer as the 3 PGs we have. we need garnett, not boozer.
