Russia Gives Up on Taking Kharkiv City... For Now...

- Russian forces have failed to make progress in the Kharkiv region the last five days and Putin is now declaring that the Russian military's plan was always to just create a new buffer territory and their goal was never to take Kharkiv city. Ukraine launched a massive drone attack against Russian oil refineries and port cities and hundreds of Ukrainian drones are getting past Russia's air defense systems now. The President of Iran might have died in a helicopter crash this morning.

Viipuri was the second-largest city of Finland until we were force to cede it to the russians.
Many of my relatives/ancestors have lived and studied in Viipuri.
Our former President Martti Ahtisaari was born in Viipuri.
Edit: all Finnish territories ceded to russia were completely repopulated by russia. Finland evacuated all its citizens.
The city's Swedish name is Viborg, not Vyborg. Vyborg is a russian name.

Well the interesting part is the Ayatollah declared it will not impact Iranian functioning of the govt. Coming from a dictatorship, its double speak for yes it will cause a lot of governing problems that may impact the supply of weapons and drones supplies to Russia.

russia had every intention to go on to take Kharkiv but because Ukraine stopped them, putin now pivots and pretends that was never the intention.
That's what they did with Kyiv as well. Russia's main strategy to "win" the war is to constantly shift the goal posts so that whatever they've currently achieved was always the goal. If Ukraine were to ever liberate their entire territory and Russia was pushed back into their own country, Putin would find a way to twist and contort it into a victory. Because he knows what happens to Russian leaders who can't convince their people the war they started ended in a victory.

As a daughter of a 91 year old mum, safe in our world in the UK, seeing the 92 year old Ukrainian lady having to leave her home brought me to tears. The only consolation is that she is safe, unlike many of her fellow villagers and countrymen/women. What bravery the Ukrainians are showing us.
China is learning a lot of expertise in the war of Russia. They sit on their hands for now, but still they are learning. Never underestimate them.

Yes. He tried to take Kyiv in 2022, thinking that if he seized the capital, then it would be easier to capture the entire rest of the country. When it became apparent that his military couldn't physically seize Kyiv he then said he only ever planned on taking the 4 "annexed" territories in the east. When it comes to this Kharkhiv offensive he absolutely would have captured the city if he felt like it was possible. The defensive lines are holding up better than he expected so now he just wants a "neutral buffer zone", as if Russia doesn't have enough land to make on on their own territory. No matter how far Russia pushes into Ukraine they have made themselves a permanent enemy by invading Ukraine and even if Russia physically holds the territory they will never be able to reap any of the benefits of it as Ukraine will perpetually remind the occupiers they aren't welcome with artillery and missiles which will never stop. The ONLY way Russia can "win" is to shift the goal posts so that whatever they've achieved now is "victory". It's pathetic honestly, I thought Russia was supposed to have a military to rival the US. All it does is rival their much much smaller neighbour.

Yes. It was excellent decision to provide also the possibility for small donations. When I saw some of the others that are still working towards their first 18.000, I thought, "hey, we should give them a boost, too!", but then I noticed that they are $100 minimum, which is a bit too much asked for many, including me.
Most of us really do it's just that it's soured some Americans about sending money to your crane only because of what's happening with immigration and the frustration with the government that's all it is but you know they are going to make Ukraine The Fallout when it comes to matters like that and they don't deserve any of that blame not when they trying to defend their own home country and now you having people that trying to make a case against them trying to defend their own country which makes no damn sense

@@JakeBroe its pretty clear what putin was trying to do to show some progress that he is winning. that opening of northern flank is putins attempt to try to turn the kupyansk flank which has been a thorn in his side for over a year.
oh i am sure he wanted to drive down to kharkiv too with his 2 divisions there, but his true goal is to try to turn the kupyansk flank, which is a stain on the russian military for losing the most territory in the war to ukraine in an offensive.
i dont think putin is gonna try to take kharkiv though, 2 divisions are not enough and its a good way to lose a field army if you fawk up. so i think putin is trying to turn the kupyansk flank as his true goal. to try to erase the shame of russia losing so much territory in the kharkiv offensive.
Even in the middle of a war Ukraine can still build schools so that their kids are safe. Glory to Ukraine for now and forever.

The President of Georgia has always said that she would Veto the Russian law. Unfortunately it only requires a simple majority in the parliament to deny the Veto.
But the public implications of overriding a presidential veto remains to be seen.

A young Israeli girl who was fully dependent in a wheel chair, she relied on her family to take care of all her needs, including feeding, was killed along with her father on Oct 7th at the music festival. Even if not... considering the size, population, and location of the country, a confrontation with Russia, let alone a Georgian Maidan, may not be the wisest choice right now. Too exposed, too far, too weak, and too infiltrated to avoid a possible unpleasant "special" response that could end in a catastrophe, with the West unable/unwilling to efficiently help and the "neutral" faction minding its own business or licking someone's boots. I would keep a low profile for now.

I'm so happy that more Ukrainian schools are becoming operational again. There is no doubt that Ukraine primarily needs weapons, and ammunition right now in order to survive, but in the long run it is important to make sure that Ukrainian children are prepared for the future. Making sure they don't fall behind on their education is important as Ukraine will need many skilled workers in the future, but returning to a safe school is also important on a psychological level, as it restores some semblance of normality for these kids. So I want to convey a heartfelt thanks to all the people who work to provide for the children of Ukraine; you are also heroes in my book! ❤ Slava Ukraini! Heróyam sláva!
