Just wondering they say if you turn off the water shut off valve and the meter still moving then you have a leak but how is it possible if water isn't flowing past in your diagram the water lateral?

The main shut off is a gate valve and they are prone to leaking. Always best to have a ball valve as your incoming valve on your water service line.

so when you open a tap from the upstairs, that's pulling water from all the way under the ground from the basement from the main water main? how does the water get upstairs so fast?

There is constant water pressure inside the pipes. The water that comes out first was sitting just behind that tap in the pipes.

Is the water only measured from that 1 meter. Our water bill has increased 3-400%. I wouldn't think that's a drip? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Shut off the valves and replace the meter with your own, that registers less water , so reducing the consumption.

Can you swap the water meter valve at the lateral for ball valve? Is there any real advantage to using water meter valve?

It depends on your location. In Columbus Ohio it isn't code to have a ball valve before the meter and the city needs to inspect new work after they turn off the building.

I have all of this except for the meter its self. And that's what I need the most right now so ik if theres a leak or not when i shut off the water with the water shut off valve. Ugggghhh

The culprits are usually the toilets mostly. Take a look in the tank and see if the water is going over the Overflow tube if it is that means that the water is constantly running past and down into the tube into the tank. If the toilet keeps flushing itself or turning on the water itself that means the flapper is leaking down below at the bottom of the tank and needs to be either cleaned or replaced. The best thing to do is to replace all the guts in your toilet bowl and any plumber or even maybe your fifteen-year-old kid could do that.

It is always best to have a ball valve before your meter on your water service line and also one after it. The pressure-reducing valve is located after the secondary shut off and not before the meter. Check valves of any kind are not a good idea because of the installation of expansion water tanks. Other methods are best for water hammer problems. This is not a good example of a proper water service line installation.

Pressure reduction valve would require the installation of a Expansion Tank at the domestic water heater? Reason being anything in the line before the water tank BLOCKS the expansion? Thank you

the pressure reducing valve acts as a check valve. Having a separate check valve is useless

The meter shown is a displacement meter. The body of the meter has a known volume. Internal to this area there is a rotating disk mounted at an angle. Water comes in one side of the meter and has to rotate the disk to reach the discharge on the other side.. each rotation of the disk equals a given amount of water and is transmitted by a magnetic connection to the recording section attached on top. The recording section indicates water consumed and can be read manually or electronically.

Good video. Shame that water companies are financially raping consumers with their outrageous fees.
