    I absolutely loved this movie. It’s so refreshing to see a well made, quality film with depth and heart!! People complain they couldn’t follow the story. Really? Just pay attention it’s not that confusing at all. It’s 3 separate groups of people, the group in the Southwest setting up the Horizon settlement while fighting off the Apache Indians. The 2nd follows Kevin Costner starting off in Montana and moving down to Wyoming and his involvement with a prostitute he befriends and ends up getting involved in her affairs, rescues her and heads down south to Horizon, and the 3rd follows a wagon train coming down the Santa Fe trail, having their difficulties and eventually heading down to Horizon.
    This movies plot is literally no different than a classic Western novel. How are people so “It’s sooooo confusing!!?? I had no idea what was going on!! Drrrrrrr!! 😜”

      I agree with you. I don't know how old you may be but from looking at a good number of reviews of "Horizon" it looks like the 40 and under crowd who have been raised on video games and other examples of immediate gratification entertainment, they just don't yet have the patience or curiosity to learn of their own nations' history. There is such a rich palette of characters and story lines here that anyone should be able to really enjoy it. But only if they have some self-discipline, patience and genuine curiosity about what their ancestors had to endure to create the countries that are the envy of the world. 🤠💖

      @@ToddSauve Lol! Thank you. But to be totally 100% honest with you. I was born in 1985, I am 38, and I am totally that kid that grew up on videogames!!! But I’ve also been an avid reader my entire life, have always been curious and open to things and I absolutely love history!!! All history!! I know more about the “old west”, about the Native tribes, about the conquest of the west, etc than most people would even realize. I’ve read countless non-fiction, historical books and many many western novels. Larry McMurty is easily one of my all time favorite authors. I was born and raised and still live in Colorado, and I often visit the the Southwest region, Texas, Oklahoma. I have two teenage daughters and I make sure their well educated on the history of this country as well. Sad how many people aren’t.

    • @ToddSauve
      @ToddSauve Před 13 dny

      @@AT-yg4nk I am glad to hear it! But three hours to dedicate to a fascinating period of history just to get an excellent set of films going is not too much for me. We seldom ever see a Western from the Hollywood studio environment any more and I find that a shame. I mean real Westerns that have a proper historical context and excellent research involved and portrayed. Marvel comics turned to film is the zenith of this current generation and that is pathetic. My great grandfather helped lead the original Icelandic settlers to Gimli, Manitoba in western Canada in 1875, and the next year he was helping lead supply caravans across the northern great plains from Fort Garry to Fort Edmonton, and every NWMP post in between. That was a six week journey there and back, and he and his partner had to sit up in shifts to keep the Plains Cree and Assiniboine from plundering and maybe even killing them in the middle of the night. He later established a ranch in the Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan right beside Fort Walsh. The family still own and run it to this day. So my roots run way back in the historic West and I truly enjoy a smorgasbord extravaganza like Horizon with its twelve hour length. It gives us a real taste of what life was like in those hard and extremely uncertain times, and should make us grateful for the easy life we enjoy today. 🤠🤠💖💖

      I did think the promotion was excessive. And I find it amazing that someone cited his 10-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival as a mark of the film’s quality. They might as well be saying that the standing ovations at the State of the Union reflect the performance of the person in office. It’s all a charade.

    The balls. Seriously. You know the media and a lot of people left Kevin Costner behind a long time ago. I've seen everything that Kevin has ever done and Kevin kind of fell into the 30 million crowd where a lot of his movies would get to about that point and that was it. Kevin has made some absolute gems of movies in the time after Waterworld and The Postman. Completely overlooked films like Black and White, McFarland USA and one of my favorites Swing Vote which shows Kevin playing a very nuanced character that is just hilarious and heartfelt and I'm just telling you you have to go watch swing vote. And it wasn't until Yellowstone where he was able to gain some clout back but the thing is is that he's been producing quality work I mean look if you weren't a Costner fan before then you probably weren't going to like anything that he did. Costner is one of those guys that if you like him then you like him no matter what he does and he's really tried to change it up and do different things with different movies than what you expect. This is why those of us that love Kevin love him because he's really tried to do some nuanced things. I mean he's not an action hero guy but he has been with Waterworld. He's done definitely a lot of serious acting work but he's also been the guy that's put baseball and western movies on the forefront and been very much an American actor of things. He also has his supernatural movie with Dragonfly. so it's not like Costner hasn't run the gamut of different roles in his career but he's always been that guy that's been the outlier that's had his hits but that's also earned the right to be respected as one of the legendary greats in acting. He had some blockbusters but wasn't a blockbuster guy, but literally made the movies that he wanted and paid for certain movies if they weren't going to get made and just found a way to get it done. Kevin Costner's kind of an anomaly in a way. So I truly hope that people will give Horizon a chance but the thing is even if it doesn't make money that's not the point here and I think that's what people are starting to understand. What we're seeing is the last of the attempts in making a great movie series, look at what Kevin is doing but trying to create something that all of us are going... really homie are you serious I mean do you honestly think this is going to be a success?? But the thing is is the fact that he's doing it and that he's able to do it is amazing and it's going to be a quality piece of work, no way that you're going to go see this movie and say this was horrible it wasn't great because Kevin doesn't do that. This movie is going to be made, all four of them and they're going to be out there and they're going to stand the test of time. And at the end of the day we all have to be able to respect a person who has the courage to go out and create something like this for us wether we may not be ready for it or perhaps this kind of movie is just clinging to the notion of days past. Either way we all need to go and be a part of this because what we're seeing here is probably the last great epic to be shown in theaters.

    Here's the thing though you're interested to see what happens in the second one and I think that's the point is that the first one is a lead up to the rest of the story so the first one is not necessarily meant to be the end-all be all or a movie necessarily on its own because we have more chapters to happen and that's the experiment here and what Costner is set is that he's hoping that people will take the journey with him because that's the story ❤

    i had the same feelings on this movie.
    i'm a big Costner fan, of course i love Dances but it's Prince of Thieves, Waterworld, and The Postman that are the holy trinity for me of his flicks.
    Open Range is great, too.
    Horizon ch 1 has some interesting stories and characters, and the message that "the West" was already settled by people who lived there thousands of years is a good one.
    But i rather despise streaming shows and what i saw on the big screen was a streaming show, a confusing one without subtitles.
    Everything covered in ch 1 deserved to be told more slowly in a nine hour series, so much felt disjointed and not given the proper time.
    i do plan on seeing ch 2, i'm invested, however it does seem clear that this will all have to be completed on a streaming service, if ever.
