Well, junk/not-junk is also a label, and not-junk diamonds are valuable because people value that label. I don't think there is anything more intrinsically valuable about one diamond from another, its a matter of what people value, and thats okay.
I love how stones I couldn't find when I was looking for them are now popular. I'm not a big fan of diamonds, but I love brown, black and silver or salt and pepper ones. They are always so unique.
i love imperfect and unconventional stones for rings! i’ve never really understood why people want these diamonds that look the same for their wedding rings. nothing against anyone who likes them of course, but i’d rather have something that is more unique! this is such a pretty one, even if it’s a “garbage diamond” like some people are saying 😅
I was skeptical this would even look good because of the type of diamond used in the setting, but OH. MY. GOSH. this is absolutely GORGEOUS and now I want one!
@@PonyJarCollector It is a low quality stone, but jewelers are by far more creative with how to make them beautiful. I believe there is a diamond type for everyone, because they come in all colors, shapes, speckled (clarity/salt and pepper), and sizes.
They are smart with names aren’t they? If it’s brown, they call it chocolate diamonds. If it’s with blemishes, salt and pepper. All pretty worthless stuff 😂
Step cuts and rhombuses are so underrated! I love them. My engagement ring is a vintage (not a clue from when-- we found it at an auction) step-cut rhombus diamond. When we took it in to be resized and reinforced, our jeweler remarked that he'd never seen a diamond cut in such a manner. That's why I love it so much! Not many have rings that look like mine. The only downside is it gets dirtier faster since it has such a large flat surface and a flatter shape overall. I have to clean the underside too otherwise it looks clouded.
Wow that’s incredibly beautiful. My mom was a jeweler when I was a kid and it was my job to set up the ring case everyday (this was before I was in enrolled in school, so I went to work with her everyday). I think that’s why I have such a fondness for rings.
I don't think there is anything more intrinsically valuable about one diamond from another, its a matter of what qualities people value and are being sold to them. Ultimately they are all just stones that someone cuts shiny.
I love how the 4 prong setting looks with this shape of stone, but not gonna lie, they make me a little nervous. Do you prefer making 4 or 6+ prong settings? Do you tell your clients to be extra careful with their ring, and why, when it only has 4? 🙈 Maybe you could make a video about the pros/cons of different kinds of settings. I’d love to hear your thoughts. 👍
Although the more prongs the safer. A good quality hand crafted 4 prong setting will be more then safe enough for most diamonds. In this instance a kite shapped stone would look terrible in anything but a 4 prong setting. And like I said if the work is done right 2 prongs will need to break for that stone to come out. Or 1 prong and then another good hit in just the right place to twist the stone which is unlikely to happen.
Salt and pepper is just code for TONS OF INCLUSIONS. No real value to this diamond. However, he made it look absolutely gorgeous. Wow. I would still wear it.
Ouuu I love stones that looks somewhat dirty? Like crackled amethyst or smoky quartz! Plus this shape is so unique, I've never seen it before? Not to mention the name 'salt and pepper' is a fun name, good way to make a less valuable variant more interesting
there is a jeweler that my mum visits that makes custom jewelry, its really cool to see and learn a bit about how jewelry is made. i never thought this would be something im interested in but i think my mind has been changed.
What an interesting trade, I find stones and the process of creating art with them so alluring. It seems like a very rewarding job. What a steady hand too I'd have to use some kind of rest to bur those notches in.
My wedding ring is a black and white ‘S&P’ diamond. It’s gorgeous and unique. Yes, it’s included, but it adds to the personality of the stone. All you guys dissing on these stones forget that there are people out there who do find beauty in non-traditional stones and diamonds- and for those that buy it’s what they want. Also, like other stones they are graded differently than diamonds- mostly based on saturation and colour rather than clarity.
I love that salt and pepper diamond! Kinda look like my Herkimer diamonds those or Quartz with petroleum inclusions... So why are they more, since diamonds I thought were all about clarity and sparkles
