Being a Ford guy and massive 5pot lover I'm Glad the RS won but it was down to the clever traction map. What a great advert for Traction mapping it made a huge difference. Great Race lads. Would of been interested to see if both had traction off , what the outcome would be.

@@MrMarcgj I’m sure it helped. Even with syvecs the ford lit up in first. See how smooth the wheel spin is?and the lack of axle hop? That’s the offset hub. It just has far more mechanical grip. Both cars are great

Harsh rasping sound and too much boost pressure drowning out the lovely 5 pot snarl. Pointless having 500 bhp in a front wheel drive car. Half of it goes to waste in the real world.

Great video Jamie, hats off to both guys for ragging their cars to the limit for my entertainment. Traction was the only difference today I thought, either car on my drive both epic and well built.
Now these are the sort of videos people deffo wanna see especially on a Sunday morning with my cup of tea 👌🏻
The Opel needs a longer ratio 1st and 2nd gear throw for better traction and smoother transition

Seeing a load of comments saying the Ford shouldn’t have been allowed to use the custom traction control but why? That’s all part of a good build making sure you can get that massive power down. Not sure why he should have to turn it off and therefore make his car worse just because the VXR has been left with standard traction control 🤷♂️ respect to both guys though, both cars are mad
Exactly, not using the traction would make it kinda completely pointless, even if only one car has it, use it!, if the other car doesn't have it, that's because it doesn't need it.
@@mikemorris4548 I disagree with that last bit. The other car definitely needed it , it just doesn’t have it . You can’t put 500+ bhp through the front wheels and expect the standard traction control to cope. Hence why the better build is the Ford . They took that into consideration

I just wish I could figure out what's going on with my Mondeo Titanium X Sport 2.5T lol. It was dangerously cutting out and a new MAF sensor didn't sort it so I disconnected it. The engine light is always on now but the car runs reliably, if a little less impressively. Ford couldn't figure it out either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm a Vauxhall fanatic through and through but the RS was something else and respect to him and the way it handled the power. Also a big thumbs up to Vinnie and the concern he showed when Reece had issues. Would of loved to have seen the vxr win more than the RS but I kind of guessed being tied for power and the spec you read off about the RS I knew the vxr would be in for a hard time. Nice watch though and well done guys.

The 4WD St, would obliterate the FWD RS over the quarter mile
Either the U.S. got a different version of the Focus RS and ST because the RS here is AWD and the ST is FWD. If so weird usually the U.S. get the detuned watered down versions of the cars.

Gen 1 is FWD 4cyl 2.0T
Gen 2 is FWD 5cyl 2.5T
Gen 3 Is AWD 4cyl 2.3T (this is the one you got in the US)
Gen 4 Is FWD ( ST version only, Ford stopped the RS cause of emissions taxes -_-') 4cyl 2.3T

That was because of how laggy that vxr is! Literally all the power top of revs
Unusable power. Pretty damn pointless, other than in a straight line, after most of its power has gone to waste. One with 200hp less would do just as well.
My cousins vxr is similar hp and he just told me that driver was poor and couldn’t drive, I’ve yet to see a focus do his including huge power, straight lines still need skill.
Rolling start he should kill that RS, the focus has always been known to get the power down better than the vxr as they just spin

That RS sounded lovely and I’ve previously been a Vauxhall man!! The traction mapping on the RS is something to behold for sure as it really worked amazingly well! Something people should invest in with a high powered car. Great battle

I think if the vxr also has a syvecs ecu with that traction control then it would stand more of a chance. Have you ever tried getting 533hp down on a non prep’d surface in a front wheel drive?
@@stephenbates8370 i had one traction aint that bad at 300bhp with some sticky rubber, my mate had a 500bhp one and that would spin in 5th though
@@stephenbates8370 Totally agree. I struggle to get traction in my fk8 with 316bhp in first and second. Only time I’ve really hooked is on a hot summers day and had a lot of heat in the tyres as well

Those are quick 0-60 for front-wheel drive. My car is AWD and makes about 320 WHP and I managed 4.71 in the wet/ cold NY weather on all season tires. Love the channel!
Before I watched, I had my money in the VXR simply because I’ve seen modified examples destroy modified Focus ST’s and RS’s plenty of times, but this was a surprise for me! Fair play to both for a pair of monsters👍🏼😎

The Focus RS always was twice the car the VXR was, obviously the Astra was only to rival the Focus ST but when it’s running 500+ I guess it wasn’t totally out of the question of having a pop at that monster Reece has! Quality video as always but this one closer to my heart owning a Rabbid tuned VXR myself haha!

@@lewiscannon8213 vxr ran with no traction, rs ran with after market traction control designed to deal with this power. Both should've ran TRC OFF imo for comparable results.

Jamie the video was great, but I can't help but feel the battles weren't even tbh. The Focus shouldn't have been allowed to use traction control to keep it even, but even then the turbo is so big on that Astra that it takes a hell of a long time to spool up, you can see that between the gear changes, so the Focus may have ran away with it anyway. Both lads did well though, Vinnie seems like a top man you can see that as soon as he saw the Focus driver stop.
Focus had a massive advantage with the traction map. Vxr with no traction control is alot more focused on controlling the power
Why shouldn’t he be allowed to use it? All part of the build making sure you can get that massive power down. Why should he have to turn his off to make his car worse because the VXR has been left standard in regards to control 🤷♂️

Take the syvecs ecu off the rs and it would be interesting, saying that the rs is built to take more power too as he turned boost down, neither less both great cars just the rs had the upper hand

I loved my H VXR, traction is definitely an issue, as you can hear from that RS, that syvecs unit is some proper peice of wizardry.
What does reece think of the syvecs is it as good as it looks on video? (Or better even?)
Also they seemed to be about level 1st and second, but once 3rd and up you're getting an extra 500cc of displacement. So that extra torque from the bigger motor is really helping out.

Why would you think that? It’s the same as the vxr forged,bigger turbo and supporting mods only difference is it’s been linered which costs less than 800 quid and that includes genuine Ford parts like gaskets and that which you’d need anyway for a rebuild
I think when you have that much power in a front wheel drive car, it’s wasted.
