  • I had the honor to talk to Justin Greenawalt who runs the biggest and most successful CZcams channel for everything E-Drum related: 65 Drums. Justin talks about the development of technology, the most frequent questions he got from viewers and what gear HE would actually buy if money was unlimited.

    I was on the fence before but now it's settled - I'm getting a tattoo of Mike on my right bicep and a tattoo of Justin on my left. You guys rock.

    Justin is the reason I bought my TD17kvx setup and I will be eternally grateful that he managed to convince me it was worth it in his review. Learning drums has changed my life and left me healthier and fitter than I have been in years. Love the content - thanks Mike and Justin!

    Two of my top 10 channels! Between both of you guys I can pretty much get all of the info I need to keep MY channel going from keeping my V-drums in top shape and getting smart advice on what gear to buy AND how to put it all on the computer and make it sound good. THANK YOU both for all of your hard work and for sharing it with us all. Excellent interview Mike! Cheers

    Of course as always I watched the whole video. Two great guys, awesome interview Mike. I think we all play e-drums in maybe 20 years. The best e drums come of course from Germany and yes I spend the price of a German car for my hobby. But I never have regrets, because I always loved and still loving to make music. Stay healthy The both of you.🍻👊👍😎

      Rob Nienhuis Thanks a lot, Rob. I hoped you like this interview as I knew you follow 65 Drums. I think a lot of people are jealous about your amazing drum set. Drum-tec shells and the TD-50 - That hardly gets better. 😎🤘🏼

    What a great talk! Thanks to you both. There are two points I would like to address.
    To spend a lot of money for the best possible gear does not mean to have the best e-drum experience. And as you both mentioned every profressional (or quite good skilled of course) drummer would get the best out of every equipment.
    Regarding the difference in feeling between acoustic and electronic drums: Yeah, at the end it´s (technically) different. But today it is possible to be compensated as good as possible. And personally in the meanwhile I do enjoy more playing on e-drums as on my acoustic set. For me its easier to get a great feeling on my e-kit because of the sound. In my case the combination of EZdrummer and my Alesis DM 8 module and the easy way of (in ear) monitoring delivers me a great experience in playing (to music and playalongs). I love it! Of course it is not the „earthquake“ feeling. But in a rehearsal room without monitoring I do just have a flat drum at the end. As long I do have good sound (with a well audible bass drum) it works very well for me.
    To be honest: In the past I was skeptical about e-drums until I started playing on e-drums. It took time to see the potential and benefits of the application. Today I do not regret and I do not wanna miss it anymore.

    Absolutely loved this interview. I'm really inspired by the fact that the guy making midi packs for toontrack played them on a Td10, and I was thinking wow my td20 is old, lol maybe I just need to improve my playing. Anyway thanks for the amazing interview you guys seem really genuine and knowledgeable.

    New subscriber. Very good chat. Been watching Justin for a couple years. Surprised you didnt come up in my feed! Still "rocking" the TD10.😂Agree about Roland cost but got all my stuff used at a reasonable price and its been bulletproof so far.

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  Před 4 lety

      Hey John, welcome and thanks for your sub. Yeah, the TD-10 is still rock solid. I started with a used TD-12 and had fun with it for years, never let me down. And it had positional sensing, which was great when using VST.

  • @rhythmantic
    @rhythmantic Před 4 lety +1

    Hi Mike, interesting video, I watched the whole thing. And of course it would be interesting to someone like myself who has been using edrums, mainly Roland, for 12 years. I found it curious that there was no mention of a very innovative company, Magnatrack. I'm a beta tester and could attest to quality of their products and they are continually coming up with new products. I did a review of their Cymbolic pretriggered low-volume cymbals, which Justin has seen and commented on. It was mentioned in your interview of how costly a VH-11, 12 or 13 hihat controller can be. Well I've been playing on Magnatrack's protype HC-1 and it works better than any controller that V-Drums manufactures and with the cymbals it's $350. Anyway, it will be one the missions of my channel this year to be demoing and promoting and bringing exposure to this innovative company.

    • @MikeLuke
      @MikeLuke  Před 4 lety

      Hey Sal, first of all thanks for watching and commenting. I actually do know Magnatrack for several years already. I even had a long call with the founder back in 2015 when he was still crowdfunding and his products still had been just an idea on a paper. So I’ve been following their development ever since.
      It would actually be very interesting for me to see a review as I don’t see a lot of them on CZcams.

    • @rhythmantic
      @rhythmantic Před 4 lety

      Mike Luke
      Well magnatrack products are now real and not just on paper. You can go to their website here and check out their very innovative products. www.magnatrack.com/
      That’s cool that you know Steve, we communicate quite often. The mission and vision for the company is that the wave of the future for electronic drums is being played on acoustic kits and they’ve got all the triggers to do it. They are designing my own signature cymbal line. Some of my latest videos I’m playing the pretriggered Cymbolic line of cymbals.
      From conversations with Steve I’ve learned there’s a quid pro quo scene among the musical instrument manufacturers and those who endorse and review products that’s why some products aren’t as visible as they could be.
      Keep up the good work, Mike, I learn a lot from your videos.

    I very much enjoy both of your Channels, but Justin seems to have wrong information in every Video lately ( Shell sizes, compatibility, Module Features...).
    Would be nice If he could to this as a full time Job, but I guess its to small of a niche for that.
