I normally cover underrated characters, and now...I'm trying my hand at underappreciated videogames! Starting with fan made beat 'em ups, which are excellent projects that are tons of fun to play and deserve some credit too! Let me know what you guys think!

I'm currently working on a few exciting different Top 10 lists (one is about 80% done as we speak), and since I've put out this OpenBor list...there have been alot of fans that have reached out and suggested a few projects I should take a look at. I can definitely see myself coming back to OpenBor games/Beat 'em Ups and making a follow up to this first list.

The Art of Fighing game is NUTS! I played years ago but didn't know the dev has kept updating the game such greatness!
I couldn't agree more. Final Fight LNS probably edges it now in terms of roster and content thanks to its v0.4 update that came out some months after I made this list. But even so, I was blown away at the sheer scope and amount of content that Trouble In SouthTown managed to jam pack into the game. It isn't perfect by any means, but man...I doubt we will ever see that kind of scale ever again in a Fan Made Beat Em Up.
One of my favourite beatem ups that no one mentions or I wish they made a fan revamp version of is, VENDETTA.! THE FUN I HAD PLAYING THAT GAME AS A KID.. OMG.
I remember that one! lots of cool ideas like attacking grounded enemies and hitting them against walls! Personal favourite of mine that was very similar in that regard was 64th street! would be awesome to see a remake of those games!

@@equanimity92 it was 'underrated' due to Sony's management of the system. a glaring example was the proprietary and overpriced memory card, which did help lots with the fall of the PSVita.
It's getting better now because you can jailbreak and through it can get something like SD2Vita, which is great because you can now put homebrew stuff like Cave Story, Doom and OpenBOR ♥ (although half of the paks crash, lol)

Thanks for the video! I recently got into OpenBOR games after buying a Miyoo Mini+. Most of the games seem to work on it, with the exception of Final Fight LNS which is a bummer because I was really looking forward to playing that one due to the massive character roster. Whenever I select it, it doesn't want to boot up. It simply reverts back to the game select screen. I know most people will play these games on their PCs so I can't imagine anyone else having this problem?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!😁 Wow that Mini+ really seems like a dream machine. I'm sorry that you were having issues with one of the games. To be fair, that game rides the OpenBOR engine to its limits. so much so that I believe it was built using heavily modified code to accomodate everything that was crammed into it. Hence why I believe you'd have better luck trying most of these on either PC or something like a steamdeck

Art of Fighting sounds perfect to me, that insane amount of content compares to the Yakuza series

Cool I downloaded all of them. Question how do you make the screen bigger for example Fighting Street. When it plays its a really small.
Nice! I'm glad you decided to give them a try! Yes, these games unfortunately default to an insanely low preset the first time you fire them up. You can try Alt+Enter to enlarge the to fullscreen, and then go to the video settings from the main menu to tweak the filters and resolution further to try and get it to a more acceptable look. I reccomend going with either 'Super Eagle' or 'Scanlines' for best results 😉 Thanks for the Support and Happy Gaming!🤠👍

A quick tip if you want to grow faster on youtube: A lot of big content creaters claim that longer videos (35+ min) tend to do way better because of the algorithm. Liking the content and I'm hoping to see you grow much bigger on this platform😁

Nice video, is there a way to play this Art of Fighting fan game on a better resolution? I'm totally new to BOR...
Why yes! At the main menu, select 'Options > Video Options". There you can switch between windowed/Fullscreen (you can also just hit Alt+Enter) and you can use different filters to smooth out the image or make it look similar to how games appeared on Classic Arcade screens with CRT scanlines. The Smoothest Options will likely be with Bilinear hardware Filter and using either '16 Bit HQ 2X' or 'Super Eagle' Software Filter. Since the game uses Sprites from older SNK/KOF titles, you'll only be able to push it so far though. I doubt that the game will look too great on Displays that are bigger than 1080p. so 4K screens aren't ideal for these kinds of titles

Are any of these on Dreamcast Homebrew? Or are they only on PC? Cause I only have Beats of Rage for the Dreamcast
Oh man😱 These really would be incredible to play on the DreamCast, wouldn't they? I really couldn't tell you how compatibility for these titles will look like on the DreamCast unfortunately. But since most of them use the BoR engine, I'd imagine that many of them might be able to play on it. However I'm really not sure if they were really built with the DreamCast in mind. Especially the games higher up in this list (many of them use highly modified versions of the engine that may not be supported.)
I've gone to check on them, and most of them do not mention anything specifically about the DreamCast, But in theory, If you dont mind a little running around to get everything ready, it would be possible to dump and create your own disk images of these games by using this guide :

Just be sure to grab the appropriate .Pak files from the pak folder of each game after downloading the ones you like and follow the steps.

What is the music that plays when you're talking about Streets Of Rage X2? It sounds appropriately like house music, but I don't recognize it from any of the games, or at least I just can't remember. I noticed one of the tracks during Night Slashers Rebalance X is a very popular one called "Nightmares Inn" by RKVC... just in case that helps someone else.
Haha Yes!😅I really wanted to include the classic tracks of these games as most if not all of these projects really have amazing OSTs. Though I'm not sure where copyright is concerned regarding 8 bit/chiptunes music, So I really tried to do my best to match each game with the most appropriate tracks I could find. Anyway, I know how frustrating it can be trying to find 'that one song you are looking for' so...The song you are looking for is "Back To The Future - Ofshane". If you haven't checked out the best of the best openbor beat em ups like Marvel Alliance, TMNT Rescuepalooza, Beats Of Power, He-Man, Silver Night's Crusaders, and the farrrr superior of all Ultimate Double Dragon then I suggest you do so immediately they will blow your mind!

@@equanimity92 I tried some of Edson's recommendations and Im enjoying Streets of rage Z 3 so far. Gameplay is close to the classic Streets of Rage but with nice additions, it feels smooth. Give it a try.
it is in Chinese I think? So I had to experiment with the controls to find the moveset, try some of these combinations:
Foward, Foward + Attack1
Down, Up + Attack1
Down, Foward +Attack1
Foward, Down +Attack1
Special
Foward + Special
Foward, Up + Attack1 (thats a weird one, seems to be the characters super special combo, drains 60% of the meter.)
Foward, Up + Special (Super mega attack costing around 80% of the meter.)
Down, Up + Special ( ULTRA Super mega combo attack costing the entire meter, devastating even on bosses.)
I was able to parry, but only with Yuri. If you press Foward+Attack1 right before getting hit, she will parry and counter with a kick. There are some different grabs to, experiment diferrent combinations of grabs.
Maybe you can make a future video about these new recommended games that you think are worth trying, Like a honorable mentions, another more 5 recommended OpenBOR games, I dunno, you can come up with a good video title.
EDIT: I almost finished the game (I think) and the character moveset increase/change as you level up. I'm having a lot of fun, mostly because also this game is very balanced. As you know well, these OpenBOR games can be cheap, trowing hundreds of enemies at you at once, but not in Streets of Rage Z 3. There are almost no projectile spammers, enemies are not hugely aggressive, they don't keep juggling you. Also theres plenty of health available, enemies may drop it, and also there are a lot of barrels and crates with them.
How can I play final fight lns and art of fighting? Which handheld console can I use to play them?please help..!
Final Fight LNS Ultimate and Art Of Fighting TIS are pretty large games. I'm not too sure if they are compatible with most handhelds as they range in size between 1-2.5 GBs. They likely arent really made for Phones and might crash if you try to play them on those. Though I havent tested many of these games on Higher end phones so you could give it a try. Although I've heard some players being able to run Openbor on PSP and Dreamcast as well - I think you'd have the most luck on Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck. Best of Luck and happy gaming!
Shame there's no night slasher rebalance rebalance XX, because the bosses really do just totally ruin it.
Haha Yeah😅 its because of those ridiculously aggressive bosses that I couldn't rank the game any higher. The game really demands alot from players. Even so, its brilliant fun! I think people should at least give it a try. Just be ready to get your butt thoroughly kicked when the bosses roll around.

Very nice just should not have had "final fight lns" as it is not a openbor game. And I prefer art of fighting 3 bor remix over trouble in south town as that game really dragged i had to force myself to play it and gave up before completing it.

Final Fight LNS is a Openbor game, is it not? Is it not a expansion of PierWolf's FF Gold Plus? I know there are a lot of controversy beacuse the LNS did not ask for permision, or so it seems.
I agree about AoF Trouble in Southtown, It tries to do to much. Some vehicle sections drag on way too much. But no doubt a lot of effort was put into it. It also seem to be a modification of the AoF Bor remix you mentioned, isn't it?
@@binho2224 as far as i am aware they did not initially give credit to pierwolf and the used a modified version of openbor so the game will not work with the official openbor engine. Oh and southtown was a hevy edit of aof 3 bor remix but not as enjoyable if you ask me
I’ve been looking for pak files of these games so I could play on the go could anyone point me in the right direction
After Unzipping/unpacking these games...you'll notice they come with a bunch of folders...such as.. "Logs", "Saves" and "Screenshots". The "Pak" folder has what you are looking for...so you'll likely need to download them on PC first, and then unzip them using the File manager and grab what you need. But be warned though...not all of these games are really built for platforms like Android or the Switch. For the most compatibility, you'll always want to go with the PC or something like the Steam Deck. Happy gaming! 😁
