Ukrainian troops shoot down Russian helicopter with Stinger missile

- This video shows a Ukrainian missile whizzing towards a Russian helicopter and blowing it to smithereens in mid-air.
Ukraine Ministry of Defence (MoD) posted this video on Thursday, 21st April.
The MoD said (in English): "Military brotherhood. On April 21st, Ukrainian paratroopers shot down a Russian helicopter with a Stinger. And when the second helicopter arrived, it was shot down by Marines. Ukrainian Armed Forces are strong, both on the ground and in the air."
Newsflash also obtained a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reading (in Ukrainian): "Marines together with fellow paratroopers destroyed two Russian Mi-8 transport and combat helicopters.
"On April 21, in one of the areas of execution of tasks, the air defence unit of a separate airmobile brigade of the DShV [Ukrainian Air Assault Forces] of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Mi-8 transport and combat helicopter with a Stinger MANPADS [man-portable air-defence system].
"The video shows the place of the fall of the occupiers' helicopter with a red arrow.
"Subsequently, another Russian helicopter, trying to evacuate a possibly surviving crew, was successfully destroyed by servicemen of one of the Marine units of the Ukrainian Navy.
"Death to the Russian occupiers! Glory to Ukraine!"
Neither the MoD or the AFU specified where in Ukraine the strike took place.
Russian troops invaded Ukraine in what the Kremlin is calling a "special military operation" to "demilitarise and denazify" the country.
The invasion is now in its 58th day.
The FIM-92 Stinger is a man-portable air-defence system that operates as an infrared homing surface-to-air missile and can be adapted to fire from a wide variety of ground vehicles and helicopters.

I don't think Russia expected to lose even 10% of the equipment they have so far. It's around 250 aircraft & helicopters which is insane considering they expected it to be over in a couple of weeks. The tanks, APVs, etc, lost run into the thousands. It's one of the biggest military mistakes in modern history.

If it wasn't for the world supplying all of the needed weapons, I'm afraid to say that this war WOULD have been over quickly. Russia must have forgotten that the rest of the world hates them and their F-YOU bully attitude, and wants to see them destroyed. I love seeing my tax dollars at work in the Ukraine!!!!

They're fighting for more than just Ukraine. Russia declared war against free people and all of western democracy a long time ago. The trail behind the missile and impact was head on, Stinger doesn't fly like that, it's designed to fly low until it detects a difference in the Ultra-Violet signature caused by the shadow between the target and clear sky. That's why it needs the target to be at least 180 mtrs above the ground so it can search and strike from underneath the target. Stinger is not as reliable when it can't lock on below the target. How it works is all detailed on the makers website, it explains it exactly. It's also unlikely to be a Javelin either as that works the opposite way, using the infra-red signature, targeting from above and literally Dive-bombing the target. That's why the Javelin is so effective against tanks.

So THATS what an Orc helo looks like when it meets a stinger. Second laugh this week, yesterday I watched a video about an "indestructible" orc helo that resembled a pile of burnt out ash.
