    The older Stinger missiles absolutely made the Russians regret flying in Afghanistan in the 1980's.... now the new Stingers make the Russians regret flying in Ukraine in the 2020's.

      You know what may become an issue in the future? When the US/West invades another country, i.e. engages in a conflict somewhere, you can bet, that the Russians will supply those fighting against them with stingers, javelins and what not. That will cause an unspeakable amount of suffering and destruction/death among our troops! I don't know if we ever thought about that, but it will most definitely happen! We can see through the conflicts in Yemen, Afghanistan, and Iraq that the Western equipment is not invincible, to the contrary, it gets destroyed. No matter what system, even the Abrams get easily busted in Yemen! There is nothing we can do about it, but to take the casualties and fight through a devastating war
 A war that could be much easier to handle, if the enemy would not have the ability to get supplied by the Russians
 I am not saying that we ought not supply Ukraine with arms, I don't know what the right decision is, but I wish that we at least have a conversation about it.

      For a hill, men would kill, why? They do not know
      Stiffened wounds test their pride
      Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
      Gone insane from the pain and they surely know -For whoom the bells toll !

    Force the target lock and get them to pop chaff then fire and forget after the flares drop.

    Between the Stinger System and the Javelin , Ukraine should bring much hurt against the Russians.
    Hopefully this gets resolved quickly before more Blood is shed. Russian or Ukrainian, most of these Boys fighting would rather go home.

    I always thought a good rule for anything combat related is to never get complacent. Halting development of new defensive tech cause your potential opponents arent pushing out new aircraft designs isnt a good idea.

    Are the stingers reusable then, also i noticed after firing you remove the cooling unit straight away, why do they do that?

    • @Ryan_Christopher
      @Ryan_Christopher Pƙed 2 lety +2

      Battery Cooling Unit is disposable, and also "heats-up to 400 degrees F 3 to 5 minutes after activation." Removal after usage necessary so it doesn't damage the gripstock.

      @@Ryan_Christopher I knew about the coolant cartridge but I didn't know about the *thermal battery.* That's a crazy mixture of hot and cold in that thing.

      @@ddegn It cannot help but get hot due to the laws of thermodynamics. All that heat removed from the seeker (so it sees a target) has to go somewhere and fast, and the electrical process of such rapid refrigeration likewise generates heat.

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn Pƙed 2 lety

      @@Ryan_Christopher The coolant is argon. The heat was removed when the argon was initially compressed. When compressed gasses are released, the gases can absorb heat.
      Scuba tanks and other compressed gas cylinders get cold when the pressure is released.
      The heat produced from the cartridges is a separate process. It's using some sort of "thermal battery" which uses a chemical reaction to produce a lot of power at once.
