THE ANSWERS
EASY
1. Lip-sync; standard SM music show style
2. Live, no backtrack
3. Very much lip-sync
4. So live!
5. Lip-sync clearly
6. This couldn't be more live! props to Natty
7. Lip-sync
MEDIUM
1. Live, but the backtrack is quite loud
2. Tried to fool you with Lily; she's been sick throughout the recent promotions so this is not live
3/4. Slightly tricky; this is pre-recorded so they're not singing live - but the track itself is very well made, sounds quite natural although Mina will never on the same volume as Jeongyeon
5. This part is lipped! Yoohyeon struggles with it live quite a bit
6. This part is also lipped! Totally understandable though, plus the mics were on
7. Backtrack is loud, but Lia is singing live
HARD
1. The backtrack kinda comes and goes in this one; it's very well balanced and quite seamless. Chan is live, but skips a few moments
2. Giselle is not live, you can hear Karina in the back later
3. Not live, except for Winter's 2 last notes; mics are on
4. Hyunjin doesn't sing the low part, Changbin is live
5. Live, good job!
6. Loud backtrack, Jennie peaks through though
7. Good track! San picks and chooses his parts; makes sense with the choreo
Despite being sick, Lily still delivered vocals during their encore performances though 😍
I got easy and medium all correct but hard was hard I got ateez, bangchan and aespa wrong
Only got hyunjin wrong💪
Got everything right except for Giselle
I’m still horrible at guessing lmao-for some reason I got more of hard right then medium
“unless you’re an nmixx memeber or solar” i actually died but thats so trueee🧍🏻♀️❤️😩

The solar belting her heart out while spinning lololol
Nmixx is the standard for 4th gen vocals

Someone is definitely into Run for Roses
I mean who wouldn't
It’s so addicting 😫

I'm a Passionfruit person, but love a good Soñar and Run for Roses.
@@inter.stellarfr, we are all united by passionfruit
NMIXX is becoming more confidence and comfortable with their singing. In Dash comeback, they literally tone-down the backtrack and you can clearly see when someone is not singing some parts as if they are literally saying, "yep we dont sing that one" thus some of their audio can be heard up and down.
Especially in the stages where Lily is too sick to hit her high note in the second prechorus. I’m so glad they both aren’t pushing her and aren’t pretending that illness doesn’t affect the voice
“Make sure you’re not listening to the actual CD’s” 😂😂😂
Old SM chorographers made sure to give the main singer their moment to perform tricky and hard notes, they would show that even in the dance practice videos, e.g Taeyon in Genie and Jonghyun in Lucifer
more recently in step back (GOT) they gave wendy and taeyon good parts for their upper range belts too
EXO gets this alot too. Chen, Baekhyun and D.O often get a break so they can catch their breath and belt so the choreo flows around them. I always loved this :) highlights that member and the moment
@@kpoplea6170 I totally agree but I wonder why? Is it Hype promotion? their personalities? appearance? ages and innocence? their first couple of songs were actually refreshing but I found super shy era boring..
@@ehsanzumrut4060 Who's talking about NJ?
Yes true. Kpop standard has regressed. Like how tvxq, suju, snsd, FX,rv, Exo, when they live ITS live even on their Rookies day. Live singing mater a lot. Like how heechul cracked once and traumatized and asked for fewer parts
I giggle when some fans comment "omg they're the standard for vocals!" or "they're so stable!" and they're clearly lip-syncing or backtracks
Delusional ppl..!!!psychos
*nmixx entered the chat
They r the standard for vocals u cannot argue against that

Idc if the Kpop idols have vocal cracks when they sing live, if they have a bad moment when they're singing over backtrack, THEY'RE SINGING LIVE
guys, i think he maybe likes run for roses.
As you should!
I actually don't consider a performance "live" if the backtrack is too loud that you can't hear their voices. I don't see the point why they turn their mic on at all.
I find that in those cases the fancans usually let you hear the hidden live vocals. Post-production on TV shows like Masked Singer and Music Bank can completely obscure the liveness.
I agree
For me the worst is when it’s looks like idol is fighting with too loud backtrack. For example, in "Tally" live, it looked like Jennie and Rose had to scream for the fans to hear them
They wouldn't need backtrack if they didn't need to dance. Either you use your breath to sing, or you use it to dance.
Old gen doesn't have the hard choreography and demand that they have today.
Imagine having your career ended cus of haters waiting for any vocal fail?
I keep seeing haters question Belle's vocals cus of that moment her voice fail during a dance move.
@@heeyl_6387 thats true but i think you missed the point. i think they meant why bother trying to sing over the backtrack at that point? if its used during a hard part of the choreo, you would just not sing in that moment. if the backtrack is so loud that you cant hear their voices for the whole song, why not either just lipsync to begin with, only lipsync during those hard parts or sing completely live/ with a quieter backtrack throughout when the choreo isnt that hard.
its completely fine to stop singing during difficult parts for a few seconds, but if i cant hear their voices for the whole song, why even bother.
People don't really care if known vocal groups (example: MAMAMOO, SNSD, BTOB, EXO, SHinee, SEVENTEEN, NMIXX) lipsyncs since they already fed people a lot of live performances and acapellas that everyone knows what their vocal capabilities are.
Such a dumb logic actually. It’s still job to perform aka sing and dance
Usually the reason of known vocal group lipsync is understandable. But doesnt mean not to care about.
I do care and I know exactly when nmixx member lipsync since it's really different when they're live or not. It's easy to hear the 2 layers, their voice and backtrack, since their live voice usually loud and bold. Even the reason when one or two lip sync is because of real sick or tired after along run many songs in concert. like it's understandable.
I do care. As a live performance enthusiast I do care alot. Even I could feel illfeel or cringe when watching gg or bg or soloist lipsync (without good reason), like they just dance and mouthing why would they get mic, to fool us? 👏
somehow yt short explore show me some of gg bg soloist lipsync and I just hit the don't recommend me option lol just not my type
I love the use of Dash, Run For Roses, and Party O’Clock’s instrumentals! If you haven’t listened to the Run For Roses 360 version yet I highly recommend it, it’s amazing!
I gotta listen to it!
the "it's Live" also
the note changes are amazing in that!!!
@aintnootherfan Please give us your opinion on it! Also, please check out fromis_9 and do a vocal analysis on them too if you have the time. They are also a 4th gen but more vocally focused than dance imo (and a hybe gg)
This, nmixx is the group that sounds tailor made for that 360 audio show.
These days they even do pre recording with their breaths and stuff it us crazy how far some companies are going to trick us
You would think it’s almost easier to let your artists sing live😂😂
That “unlesss you are NMIXX or Solar” with Solar swinging on the poll belting Despacito 😂
The best thing with Mamamoo that they designed most of their performances so no one force them to do anything and you can always see how much they enjoybthe stage. Like that fancam of Solar - she was geting high on the music just as much as we were
Belle screech after she got yeet by Natty in crazy choreography is soooo funny, and well at least we know she sang live 😂
if I remember right it was their very first live stage (on a music show). Well, spinning around, give a high-five to Haneul and belting a high note at the same time was a little too much for her but she improved afterwards.
@@TomsMusicCorner I know, but I find it funny hahaha
When it comes to lipsynching, I think more companies should go the Beyonce route. She's so seamless with it, a lot of her fans are convinced that she sings live ALL the time. She's also very strategic with the placement, so a song will have both live and prerecorded vocals, which can be very confusing to figure out. I think she also always incorporate live adlibs, so when she does almost a full song of lip sync a la "single ladies" people are thrown off, because she speaks to the audience, so it always feels live.
Idk what SM feels insecure about. They have great singers/vocalists. They just ruined them by making them do lipsync. 😤
Run for Roses instrumentals all over the video🤌♥
as a vocal enthusiast, NMIXX must be satisfying your every itch for it haha
The performance for EXO's Cream Soda at The Season's is actually crazy you would think they wouldn't sing it live since they didn't in music shows as we saw in the example in this video but they did and even those tricky falsetto parts, not to say anything about their growl performance which doesn't even have a backtrack czcams.com/video/uLbyTwLI41c/video.htmlsi=Tgrsoo2jgamt1ig
SHINee is always the standard when it comes to encores and live performances.
In 2023, SHINee that needs to deal with Jjong's physical absence, had to put 2MinKey to deal with Jinki's hiatus. They did 2 weeks of promotion, shows in Korea and a tour with several shows in Japan. All this at the same time that Kibum did shows and 2 solo comebacks last year, and works on programs for entertainment. Just like Minho in his acting and modeling work, and also his career as a kpop soloist. Finally, Taemin who returned from the army doing fan meeting, SHINee's comeback and promoting his solo career with stages around the world, and comeback and show in Korea. During the Japan tour, he went back and forth to Korea to take care of Guilty's comeback, and for the Metamorph show, he had to rehearse for days and days during the late hours of the night, as SHINee performed several songs live at the 3 Gayos (KBS, SBS e MBC), and also held a special stage in MMA.
The guys, even with a 15-year career, once again demonstrated professionalism and excellence despite the difficulties.
With just 3 idols from the 2nd generation and over 30 years old, but singing perfectly without their 2 main vocals while concomitantly promoting solo careers:

Onew is on hiatus, but made 2 solo comebacks, recorded several albums and performed several solo shows in 2022-2023. The album "Circle" is a masterpiece that was chosen by Billboard as the best kpop album of 2023. May our leader be taking good care of himself and recovering.
Jonghyun will always be one of kpop's greatest vocalists and lyricists. Creator of several poetic and vocal masterpieces. Our angel who is the foundation of SHINee.
Stan the group known as Idol of Idols. Stan kpop legends. Stan Art. Stan 5HINee.
Ever since Ive discovered Shinee I have honestly fell in love with them. While quite a few of their songs are not my taste I will always have respect for them. View is one of my most streamed songs in 2023
@@sliverhalo9286 View will always be timeless. Jonghyun, in addition to writing the lyrics and composing it, worked with SHINee to introduce the Deep House genre into kpop. Since their debut, SHINee has been described as an experimental group, so they never repeat formulas, and in these almost 16 years, they have one of the most well-made and varied discographies in kpop. This also applies to soloist careers.
Speaking of View's live performance, this one is one of the most legendary:

Now in February, SHINee will do 2 days of shows with just 3 members, and at the giant Tokyo Dome. The quality and energy of these guys is unbelievable. Let's just hope that our leadernim is getting better and better, and come back now in 2024 so we can see the 4 on stage again with Jjong always being in our hearts.
Wuuuhh 👏👏 Girl had time, and RECEIPTS!! Thanks babe 😊😊

got them all right! i feel like a good student of the ain’t no other fan live vocal academy
omg that's so cool!!
sometimes I'd to listen to whole performance to tell if it's live, noticing the moments where it's impossible to sing while jumping around, even Michael Jackson the icon of icons was very smart with his moves vs notes, watch his billie jean performances for example, he KNEW when to sing and when to focus on cool physical moves.
I really can't understand why they opened NewJeans mics in the first performance, God we only hear the heavy breathing just close it :|
Yeah like why is breathing louder than the singing? Thats basically them not singing.
They are whispering, it's newjeans asmr
This is what i think
Kpop music bank shows:- I don't care much
Award shows :- you need to sing live !
Concerts nd world tours :- sing live but lipsync is fine
Bcz in concerts they need to continuously perform songs so getting tired is normal
That's why if you want u can lipsync but not all performances though
Oh I agree! Music Shows also very demanding for their schedules, so I dont mind if it's pre-recorded but will be better if not.
In concert tho, if they arent even have dance choreo and just interacting with audience or sit, nah you need to be live. It's called a concert for a reason..
Same. Encores. I need them to be live.
Honestly lipsyncing in award shows is better then lipsyncing in shows. Like in award shows many groups focuses on dancing and award show performances often have dancebreaks.
There are encores where groups aren't live!!! That feels like a straight up scam 😅@@starsparklemonkey3390
@@vixxexo6855they do those week shows almost everyday and sometimes several a shows a day during their comeback. Lots of idols sleep about 2-3 hours everyday for 2-3 weeks and you expect them to sing live? It’s just not good for their throats. I’m wondering how are they even stay alive
"..So before saying someone eats CD's for breakfast you need to make sure that you're not listening to *actual* CD's .." 💀💀 Lmao 😅 The SHAAADE ...THE SHADE OF IT ALL!!
But seriously my opinion is that at Award shows the idols MUST sing live. I mean you're receiving an Award for your talent ffs, or alternatively have been nominated for one. So PROVE it! As for when on Tour they can use back track 50% of the show, and live singing 50%. Especially if it's a looong worldwide tour, like Blackpink last year 😢
i wish we got to hear more of san's live vocals during live stages- they give my man all the falsetto parts and all the crazy choreo and it forces him to prioritize the integrity of the dance performance. like you said, he's very strategic with which parts he chooses to sing. but god, when he gets to show off like in the bridge of utopia (seriously his vibrato during that belted note is so lovely) i feel so happy, though those opportunities are few and far between :(
Run for Roses? you mean song of the year
My favorite KPop singer is BoA, who sings live very often, especially on tour. You can hear the imperfections and the differences between the live vocals and studio recordings. Of course, she doesn’t always sing live as she is oftentimes incredibly dance-focused, but more often than not, she’s performing live. She is a Gen 1 performer, though, so the standard may have been different back then and the majority of her tours and concerts take place in Japan where there’s more of an emphasis on live singing. Still, I have always appreciated her performance skills. She’s great!
The use of backing track should be accepted especially in KPOP since the idol industry consists of singing and dancing at the same time. Singing live is great, but there will be times where idols need the support of backtracks since in their line of work, overworking is a common thing especially for the more popular ones as their schedules tend to be fully booked most of the time. As far as Music Shows go, I don't really care whether they sing live or use pre-recorded vocals, it's fine for me. Award Shows? I don't mind the backing tracks but I hope they mix in live vocals when they perform, at the very least, it'll show their authenticity and sincerity as idols. At concerts? I expect live vocals but wouldn't mind if they go for a couple of performances with just backtracks, a 2-3hour concert isn't some walk-in-the-park even for artists that are solely focused on being singers, idols perform songs with choreographies while being expected to sing live as well, so let's cut them some slack if they need to rest for 1 or 2 performances with just backing tracks. As for those MR removed videos, I only watched a couple of times cause I find it cringy to listen to, even for the groups like Twice or NMIXX which are my top2 groups.
During this week's promotion of NMIXX's Dash, there were a couple of stages where Lily didn't seem to sing live while performing, some said she was feeling sick for those days so it was understandable that she didn't sing live while performing, but she did sing live during the encores where they won first place though. 2 of those wins, I noticed Lily really was not feeling well as it was noticeable in her voice. But she still killed it, as always. So far, NMIXX has won 4x for Dash and I feel proud for them.
Medium #2 was one of the performances where it was noticeable that Lily did not sing live. It's fine since she was feeling unwell, so it'll be too draining and too difficult for her to dance while belting some of her parts as well. Her godly vocals need some rest from time to time too.
2nd Gen groups were the golden era of live vocals. They better bring back years of training camp 😂
They be debuting half-baked idols now
Now that i saw the Lia Dalla Dalla stage, I seriously wonder why she doesn't sing that way anymore, considering Yeji always tries her best even getting out of her range (and yes, she's literally screaming but it's easier to hit those notes and many techniques or styles require that they sound good too)
I think anxiety was a huge factor to it. A stage where this takes place is fifty fifty's debut stage I remember they were singing live but you could hear how nervous they were
Yeah, it's pretty crazy because I saw her in Dalla, Icy and Loco slaying but then she just doesn't even try her high notes, and she does it so well too 😢
In love this the transition being Run for Roses obsessed with RFR
Omg natty giving it her all in #6 😮😂🗣️
Excellent lecture, bro!
Thank you so much!!😊 you're too kind!
I really enjoy this clip. Thank you so much. I firmly believe that live singing should always be highly valued, as it embodies the essence of a true performance. This is a point beyond debate. However, I do acknowledge and support the use of A/R (Audio/Recording) in situations like health concerns. My quandary lies in whether many K-pop group members (honestly, quite a few) can deliver a performance at the same level as their recorded tracks without intense choreography. As a long-time K-pop fan, I'm concerned that the inability of most top-tier artists of the 4th generation to do so could lead to dire consequences. Pretending to sing a part without the assistance of auto-tune or other technological aids, when one cannot actually perform it to the level of the recorded version, is frankly, a deception. I'm not in the business of being duped.
As an economics enthusiast, I can't help but think of Gresham's Law: 'Bad money drives out good.' This isn't just a phenomenon in economics; it's happening in K-pop too. Wise consumers shouldn't have to be vigilant about what they consume. If something is advertised as organic food but is actually just a bundle of chemicals, what would you do? Show business is no different. Without a minimum guarantee of authenticity, it's nothing but a sham. I strongly support NMIXX and some others such as Kiss of Life, Stay C, Purple Kiss, and some more. The reason is simple. They record what they can actually perform, not do a fake thing. Some may argue K K-pop idols have different features such as influencers etc. I would simply reply don't spend any single pennies of yours on a fake thing.
I finally caught a video premiere?? Im so happy😭 also opening on EXO members is such a small, easy way to get me invested. Now lets see if my EXO-L training has made me capable of picking up live vocals!!
For me, it is:
music shows: they perform on those so often I think it would actually be damaging to their voice singing all live, every time.
awards: you must sing live. No other option. You're there because your talent and hard work was recognized, so don't you dare to fake it.
tours: I think it's fine a few lip sync here and there, but c'mon, don't lie to the people who paid money to see you.
Please listen to Run for Roses 360 sound boom. You will love it😭 i was so satisfied
if i'm gonna pay potentially hundreds of dollars to go to a kpop concert, they better dang well be singing live for the most part
Wanna say, i very much enjoyed watching the video (and Run For Roses i heard the MIXX uni thing for it fell in love with it and found out it wasnt out yet, forgot about it till 2 weeks again and then i learned the dancs, i love it alot-)
I love how the Kpop end of year award shows forced everyone to sing Live.,
I wonder what prompted them to do so😂😂😂😂😂 maybe the AAA 2023?
What shows have you watched? Because most of the shows I’ve watch this year were not live or were not live for most of the groups
I enjoy your videos so much (and your love for nmixx!)❤ For a next vocal ranking I'd think it'd be so cool if you look into the band side of kpop maybe? FNC Entertainment has a bunch of (my favourite) bands, as well as there's Rolling Quartz, Xdinary Heros, Day6 etc :D
I love your love for EXO. 😊 Any chance you could comment on Suho's and Xiumin's voices?
I used to check on live singing by looking how delayed is the sound in comparison to mouth movements.
By letting lip syncing go unnoticed, we lose some amazing instrument players, back vocals etc. who deserve the spotlight as well. My fave performances (not only kpop) are with orchestras/bands with all their “bad moments”
The thing about choreographies not made to is so true. Taking wayv as exemple, somehow they have managed to do some amazing vocals (and a voice crack) in turn back time and soon after they had to adapt the choreo
I'm obsessed with run for roses too twin! 🙌🏼
if you don't care if kpop idols can sing then you are just stanning good looks....
Seventeen live performances are 🔥🔥🔥
I feel you. I am obsessed with Run for rsoes as well.
THANK YOU for including the kelly clarkson twice performance. I love my girls but that wasnt live and its ok, i dont think any artist is ever able to perofmr live on talk shows
Angelina Jordan does. She never sings with backtracks (to my knowledge).
Ain't No Other Fan is literally me, Nmixx is gonna be my main artist this year
Enhypen is a group I am quite confused with... I feel like the main vocal, heeseung, barely sings live and skips his line way more than some members like niki, Jay, sunoo, or jungwon. Jungwons vocal technique isn’t the best but he still manages to sing almost all his lines in their performances in my opinion. Is heeseung just singing TOO on key and it’s hard to differentiate his live singing with the backtrack or is he skipping his lines?
I am not an engene so I have not seen their live stages but based on your descriptions it seems Heeseung is picking and choosing which parts he sings live
Meanwhile..
*Rosé choking on her notes*
BP haters: that’s backtrack.
great video, enjoy the test portion.
I love your videos! I had an idea for a video series watching this: group specific videos showcasing where you guess if it's live vs lipsync. I think this would be good to see for fans, but to see that very competent groups like nmixx also use lipsync sometimes and also to see what sm groups who for whatever reason sing less and less these days ACTUALLY sound when they are live !! thank you for your hard work
This is one of my fav channels, you never miss with your content! BTW hope you're doing well with all the studying 💪
honestly, i value live vocals a lot. there's just something about them that can't be emulated in lipsync/overly loud backtracks. i think this is why i've been sort of shifting gears from kpop to other genres like musical theater
my dad used to work as an event technician and theres automated switching between mic and backtrack which is crazy so i dont trust nothing at this point lmao
your obcession with run for roses is very relatable
I totally agree with the poll. It's Okay for me if idols don't perform on stage but if they do, it will be a memorable experience. And I will actually have respect to idols that actually sing because they are risking their throat health because they will constantly practice for their performances.
Lmaooooooo not the MR removed callout 😭💀 so true tho I’m always like…?
I'm definitely team live vocals. They are singers, right? So it's basically their job to sing. I get that sometimes you are sick and can't really pull it out, but nowadays it's more commmon to see groups lip-sync than singing live, wich is really sad. And choreaography that is too hard to sing while performing is absurd to me. Like, just make diferent choregorapy, so the member singing at the moment don't have to jump simultaneously...
Here's a link to one of my farvorite lifestreams where mebers sing while goofing around and still sound amazing. It seems so easy and natural to them. I wish kpop agences paid more attention to singing abilites than anything else...

I totally care about live vocals! Been listening to kpop since like 2011 and strangely havent been to a single gig live till last yr. Saw le sserafim perform and while I respect their hard work and enjoy their music/choreo - I knew it was all backing track and came away feeling very unsatisfied. But maybe I'm also biased as a muso hahaha XD
Can you pls do some vocal content about loona? It would be interesting to see if they lipsynch or sing live (cuz their choreos are super hard), see who's the better vocalist, etc.
I absolutely love the new NMIXX tracks! Had dash stuck in my head for ages and still not sick of it!! Really enjoying run for roses too!
Oops got the first one wrong (heard the pop of air w that last note suing by the first singer but pre-recorded i guess haha - what happened to pop filters damn HAHAHA) but otherwise got them all except for the last one (listened to it again and went oops HAHAHA)!
The last ones were tricky tho - aespa could hear breathing but the vocals didnt sound live
I use pitch as a main indicator hahaha - if there is a slightly flat note/clash between backing and singer - or even a slightly more articulated note compared to other words - that helps me figure it out hahaha (also their skill helps me determine if I know they can sing something like that or if thats way too hard for them live and hence pre-recorded).
Oof I missed 4, 2 in medium and 2 in hard. I love these though, keep them coming!
Enjoyed the game !!
Interesting, live vs lipsync tends to be obvious when you know what to look for.
For Music Shows, I don't think its necessary to sing live, since I never thought that was the point of music shows. Music Shows are just ads, the companies put on an elaborate show for their artist to look as good as possible for the camera/broadcast. Singing poorly or making a mistake during music shows attracts a lot of criticism because a mixed audience views it, I understand not exerting more effort than necessary.
For Concerts, I expect mostly live vocals and strategic use of backtrack or lip-sync if necessary, like if the idol isn't in good physical condition. Since, the audience is paying money to watch the idol perform. Not only do I think that live vocals make the performance feel fuller, I just think it's disrespectful to the audience.
I think the same for awards shows or festivals, it's a stage similar to a concert, so I think live vocals should be prioritized.
I have a feeling some groups have few members (usually rappers and sometimes main vocalists) sing live and some others almost always lip sync and that gives the illusion that the whole group always sings live but it's actually only a few members
On the physical signs of singing part, I remember wonyoung's clip hitting the high note with clearly NO physical signs of singing. lmao
I am happy you put Lia’s live singing stage, knowing she is currently on hiatus and we can’t see her for the time being . Keep up your good work.😊
somehow for me it was hard to guess in the medium category lol, anyways good video!!

enjoyed the ear test :)
Can you please analyze Danielle NJ Little Mermaid during performance in Music Bank Mexico 2023. There were arguments that it was not live but AR instead
That's why my ults are Kiss of Life and NMIXX
yeeees I'm so proud of myself - I finally got all of the correct on the first go!
I have high expectation for idol to sing live as my ult bias group set the standard too high in live singing. You definitely should take a look on BTOB. They are very well knowned of their vocal and live performance in SK. So sad they're underrated in international
LOL! Those percentage that doesn't care much about live singing just to protect their favs who are bad at singing.
4:15 that was beautiful!
I'm just a casual listener of kpop & i do care about live vocal, so i mostly only listen to mv as i'm mostly not interested in live performances because of the lipsync. But imo kpop tend to focus more on dance performance because it is more eyecatching i guess, so they tend to sacrifice the live vocal part in order to get the highest quality of performances. And many kpop fans are okay with it which is not a problem. I'm more of a jpop idol fan, specifically hello!project fan. They're relatively popular in japan. They sing live like 99.9% of the time, but with simpler dance choreography (some with lame choreo but i can live with that lol). I tend to like this type of performance more tbh. You just can feel their energy on stage because they're singing live and having more interaction with the audience too. But that's just me. like this performance where they're just walking around but you can feel the energy czcams.com/video/j6Pub_uFOM8/video.html&ab_channel=MM-sayu
We share the same obsession for Run for Roses and not we are definitely not hiding it
This person is for sure an nswer ❤#nmixx
I have watched a few of your videos and so far I really appreciate them. Well worded, well explained ! Always very interesting, keep going ! I wanted to share my thoughts on lipsyncing. To make it short, I'm very accepting tbh!
I've been a kpop fan since 2017 and saw the industry changing since 4th gen started. I stanned EXO, Red Velvet and currently stanning Seventeen, pretty well rounded groups if you ask me haha.
Unlike in the western industry, kpop is not only about singing (though it is an important part of being a kpop artist) but dancing & performing as well. It is well known how talented dancers like Kai, Taemin, Hyoyeon and many more are, also how difficult and creative choreos are, I'm thinking about Seventeen, Itzy, Iz*one when they were still active, even Le Sserafim. I have an interest in dancing so I'm always looking forward for the performances the artists will deliver. To me, performance and dancing are also important because not only does it keep the public entertained and amazed during live shows/concerts, but it is also a skill required to be an idol, even more in 4th gen... That's the reason why I think lipsync is acceptable to some limits. Singing and dancing at the same time is indeed hard, no matter how trained an artist is. Training does help idols with stamina, and at some point it does get easier. But the human body will obviously get tired after some time! Remaining stable throughout a whole performance is exhausting. Le Sserafim's Antifragile choreo gave the idols a hard time, hence they lipsynced all their performances if I'm not mistaken? At least, most. I personally thought it was okay as the choreo complemented the song and the overall mood of it. Even Unforgiven, a very... creative choreo! If there is an intention of delivering a dancing performance rather than a singing one, I'm okay with it. It is also what kpop is about to me, therefore I don't usually mind lipsync that much. There are still groups to deliver a good singing while dancing (to hard choreos) performance, I'm thinking about Itzy, which is wonderful total respect!
However, with more simplistic choreos, I think lipsyncing would be "inappropriate". As mentionned in your video, most of Mamamoo's choreos are simple, which allows them to use their vocals to its full potential. If the artist is literally not dancing, sitting down on a chair, I think there is no excuse. As for award shows, I feel like performance is a big part of the show, so I wouldn't totally mind lipsyncing, but not a total lipsync performance. As for concerts, I don't mind lipsync neither as the artists are usually performing for at least an hour or two, which gets exhausting. But some songs don't have choreos, which allows the artists to rest and interact with fans. Lipsyncing here is obviously not okay to me.
Basically I got used to the fact that kpop is changing. We're not *mainly* focusing on vocals anymore, but way more on performance. I have mixed feelings about it, but I think lipsync is not as bad in some circumstances. Yet, artists should be able to prove how vocally talented they are in other ways if not through live shows. I'm thinking about the Lee Mujin show, or Killing Voice, radio broadcasts, covers and you name them... I've been ranting about the fact that performance is now a very important aspect of kpop, but that doesn't change the fact that a kpop artist MUST be able to sing. I don't mind artists that have a hard time remaining stable during difficult performances (though many proved that it is not an impossible mission) but they must at least prove their ability to sing.
My favorite thing to show people how missleading pre-recordes can be is Tresuares Jikjin promotion. The pre-recorded track is SO flawed that you want to think it is live, but it is not. There is even award show performance where they actually sing parts of the song, but it is quite visibable that they don't sing it generally. If you know what singing physicly looks like.
Everglow NMIXX Dreamcatcher 💛💛🥳🥳🎶🎶
Run for roses dance practice!
The fairy tail outro
what's the instrumental playing in the background, its so familiar and not at the same time??
Run For Roses by NMIXX
which groups did sing live in your opinion during these last awards shows (boygroups or girlgroups)??
Honestly, at music shows I really don't care because choreo has gotten more intense, and they record at stupid hours of the morning in the middle of other comeback-related schedules, it just seems riduclously difficult to maintain good voice hygiene - But at encores, festivals, award shows, concerts etc. I expect live vocals but can understand backing track in the choruses tbh
i love your videos so much
What is the song that plays on Hard 11:12 like when the word hard is on the screen what song is that??
They use backtrack with a little bit of live vocals… it’s impossible to sing and dance for so long. I’d rather them not dance and just sing
whats ur thoughts on programs like itslive and mujin service? i dont really have a good ear but some performances sound autotuned or just too clean to me. it could just be the mic quality but im not sure
I think some vocal coaches (that I've seen) said that the idols are singing live on the spot, but the end product (the ones we hear on the video) were all heavily edited. Tbh i would suggest watching idols going into radio shows and performing there bcus most of the time, it is live and unedited.
I'm an ELF. Having a group full of idols who can sing is one of the reasons why Super Junior is still around. For almost a decade one or more were out on military service. No problem. The guys would switch up parts all the time, because they sang live live. Who is singing Kyuhyun's line this time? Sometimes Yesung, sometimes Leeteuk, sometimes Donghae or even Siwon.
i only really remember groups singing with heavy backtrack either in collab/special performances, some music shows, and any other time there isnt heavy choreo. seeing people ok with not singing live in non dancing performances is absolutely wack to me. back tracking a lot in performances does matter but also companies should stop having intense choreo in heavy vocal parts. concerts they should definitely sing live. but there definitely used to be more balance in discographies of fast intense choreo and softer bsides so i wonder if that changed. i dont really listen to new group albums much so idk. it would be so difficult for groups if their entire discography consisted of hard fast songs in a concert so i wouldnt blame them for lipsyncing. maybe thats why albums are getting shorter and shorter. like this is the problem with albums these days, they want heavy vocals, but dont give the necessary things needed to execute them. so it puts unnecessary pressure on vocalists to perform these crazy choreos while screaming. and no, i dont think "good" vocal groups deserve more praise for doing so. its the companies faults for not training vocalists much anymore.
As a Gen1 fan, I've always wanted to know what I was enjoying and what I want to enjoy in Kpop.
In the common enjoyer, I guess Visuals and popularity is major factor because people don't have time to distinguish which is Recorded/backtracked. But for me, I want to enjoy the vocals. I loved the SNSD's TTS girls back in the day. I've always loved Solar and Wheein. Wendy carried RVV. I love her. And now, I guess NMIXX ruined 4th gen for me. Let's just say they are just good vocals but the dance choreo they are doing with the singing. I just love it.
Dreamcatcher are really good at singing live. And it’s really impressive considering their choreo is on the more difficult side for girl groups.
That "Run for Roses" ad lib tho 🤌🏻✨️ Love how rich your lower register is
