I've been sewing for years, and your tutorial is excellent for beginning sewers. Your voice and camera work are very well done.
I like how you have the camera really close to the needle while you stitch. Some other sewers don't get close enough to it. Thanks! 😊
I love the idea of reversible placemats with different prints. When I make mine I use fusible hemming tape to put between the opening after turning the right sides out. I cut a piece of the fusible hemming tape the length of the opening. Then I slide it between th two layers and using a pressing cloth I seal the opening. That way it’s completely closed before top stitching around it.
I'm a newer sewer and I thought this was going to be straightforward so I felt a little silly watching this, but I ended up learning something, so thank you for the clear video! Very helpful.
Thank you! This video came right on time. I found some great Ikat fabric today and I was thinking of making placemats or cushions with it.
THANK YOU I made mine today, only my 2nd sewing project. They are beautiful. I used placemat panels by Wilmington Prints in a gorgeous Halloween print. They're awesome!
yup, just baste it to one of your panels before you stitch them together. Also, you can use the prequilted cotton fabric as well.
I love your instructions
I really liked this method, my placemats came out great! I did others with batting instead, but I don't like how bulky they came out.
Thanks for the great explanation. I bought a pattern and it seems complicated. This is very easy even if you dont want reversible placemats :)
Carolyn Samson you can do it! Please post a pic on our fb wall when you finish :)
Super cute
excellent instructions. very clear and easy to follow. tfs. Bettina
Great video for a new sewer, thanks so much
This is exactly what I was looking for! You really did an excellent job with this. Thank you for such a great tutorial! :)
thank you! I"m so glad you found it helpful
yay! thanks for trying it :)
Think I'm gonna try that for my first sewing project ever... Wish me luck 😀
Brilliant tutorial, many thanks.
why don't you iron the wrinkles out before cutting? Very good informative video, i look forward to seeing more.
Great video
Very good video! Thank you for sharing. I wish my hands were as nice as yours.
Beautiful
Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you!
Excellent
Thank you for your video
Great video for the beginner sewists. I would have ironed my fabric once I washed and dried it to help ensure accurate cutting? Is there a reason you don't? Thank you for posting
👍👍
Do you have a version for when you don’t need interfacing?
You are such a great teacher! Thank you so much for these spectacular videos!
thanks for the kind words!
My mother used too do this stuff to.
Thank you this so a very helpful vide! Thank oyu for sharing! Liz x Subscribed to your Channel...
thanks for subscribing
O I can not wait to try I love the app thank u very much!
thanks this video helps me alot
Thanks so much! Why did you cut the corners though? And why did you do the outside edge/top stitch? I thought that's why you sew the two good sides together so you can hide stitches when you turn inside out?
Reduces bulk on corners. Top stitch is commonly used on items to finish off neatly and give extra strength. Totes and other bags also get top stitch
Nice video! Thanks! Could you also use quilting cotton in between to give the placemats a cushiony appearance?
Quilting cotton is flimsy. Try medium to heavyweight calico
LOVE IT!
Thanks
Can we get so more sewing videos plz in do anybody no of more sewing channels
How heavy should the interfacing be?? I went to my fabric store and there is a huge selection. Thanks! Great video!!
I used lightweight or featherweight. It really depends on how stiff you want your placemat to turn out.
Great video for us beginners. Why do you cut the corners?
So we don't have fabric bunched up in the corner once the placemat is turned right side out.
thank you
You mention using heavyweight fusible interfacing when using 100% cotton... Are you using Pellon brand? and if so, which fusible interfacing. I went to Joann's and they had different kinds... what is the number and/or color that appears on the label on the end of the bolt. Thanks for the tutorial.
Sally Schilling I think it's pink. It's the woven, fusible shir-tailor interfacing
Can I use jeans fabric, jute fabric or burlap instead of the interface?
sure. If the fabric is already on the stiff side, you can skip the interfacing
Hi. I have some pre quilted off white fabric. Not sure how to use it for placemat because it turns out too bulky.
If I were you, I would just sew extra wide double folded bias tape around the edge to finish it.
whats kind of placemats do people will love for their dining table?
What kind of fusible material did you use?
it's fusible interfacing. I use heavy weight so it's a little stiffer
so how many yards would i need of each fabric for 6 placemats?
+Tru Spork it's 3/8 of a yard for two placements so for 6 it would be 1 1/8 yards :0
wow
Tell your viewers to wash and dry their fabric first - before you cut and sew. This avoids shrinkage when project is completed.
she did..... 😆
The video conveniently skipped the part where you sew on the main fabric
tysm ._.
thanks this video helps me alot
