They both did an honorable job bringing us the Megadeth sound we love. I saw them live and was not disappointed. Both are great musicians and that’s what we need, more music and more flavors. But who’s heard of a drummer and guitarist leaving MD? Lol

It's one thing to have total freedom to express oneself musically and it's quite another to be able to express oneself with certain boundaries in place. Any musician can do the former but only the great ones can achieve the latter. Kiko and Dirk were able to express themselves within the confines of Megadeth's music which makes them greater musicians than Chris and Shawn. So I'm happy how everything turned out.

I'm a fan of Chris, bought "Birth and the Burial" and even seen the new band twice on tour. I find it very unfortunate to see him slipping into obscurity. The 2 shows I saw, one was in Denver and the other was in Colorado Springs. The Denver show was opened by two bands. One was "Smack Factor" and the other was "Allegaeon" and apparently everybody was there for Allegaeon because once they finished their set half the place emptied out leaving Act of Defiance playing to a small crowd. The show in Colorado Springs was also in front of a very small crowd. I hope their next album is amazing and they bring in a second guitarist to make their live sound larger.
Oh yeah, the story regarding them leaving Megadeth is totally different then the one I've heard. Story is Dave Ellefson was talking about trying to bring back Nick Menza and Marty to the band following Super Collider and once Shawn and Chris got wind of this they left the band.

I do happen to be a very big fan of Megadeth and yes I am aware of the ego that Dave Mustaine has for himself. After I listened to Act of Defiance, I could see what they meant by expressing themselves musically because its a little different than what Megadeth has put out there. Shawn and Chris are both talented and it's their decision to quit if they aren't happy. Sometimes if you're involved in a group where you feel limited and then begin to do your own thing, then you'll understand fully on why these two did it.

And in comes Kiko Loureiro and helps Dave write 3 of the best tracks on Dystopia and in Megadeth's catalogue. He even plays the solos better than all the previous guitarists, especially during live shows. He even writes better solos that sound more Megadeth since the Marty Friedman days.

it's amazing how many metal bands don't realize having a UNIQUE vocalist (and some melody) really matters! I've heard many metal bands who sound GREAT...and then the singer comes in and does GENERIC cookie monster or other generic vocals.
Mustaine, Ozzy, Lemmy, Halford, Gillan, DLR, Hetfield, Araya, Belladonna, and ALL OF THEM ARE INSTANTLY identifiable in 2 seconds!
IF YOU ARE IN A METAL BAND, your SINGER is actually the most critical piece. If you can't find a GREAT one... then go instrumental and blow my mind with killer music.

I love Megadeth but am also happy Chris and Shawn left. They put their passion first. That’s what music is about. Anyone that trashes them for doing so knows nothing about being a musician or are just pissed they left. Act of Defiance is an awesome group. Let’s just look back at Dave’s career with Metallica. If he hadn’t of gotten kicked out of the band we would have no Megadeth. That would be a-shame. They didn’t leave in the middle of recording and they’ve been absolute professionals when it comes to understanding that Megadeth is Megadeth. That’s the music you will be preforming. Good for them!

      1) You are correct: the OFFICIAL story has never once been true in human history.
(FUN FACT: Everyone believes the SUPER-LIE that Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett was ditched from his OWN band (!) b/c he was an LSD casualty... but we know that's a TOTAL LIE b/c all my friends took loads of acid and NOT ONE has a single lingering side effect; and we REALLY now it's a lie b/c the Official Story has NEVER been true in human history, PLUS Syd was the Cobain of the band: MISCHIEVOUS... and he didn't like the plasticity of the Music Biz, so he'd prank everyone when on Big TV SHOWS, while lipsyncing. DICK CLARK and other INDUSTRY GOONS told the others "Syd is going to HURT your career as his pranks don't please us", and THAT is why PF ditched him from his OWN band! THIS is why the band always talks about Syd and writes songs about him: GUILT. And now, nearing death, PF's drummer has started to say in interviews "i don't think the acid was the MAIN problem... I think it was more INDUSTRY PRESSURE" (!!!) Checkmate!!!)
      2) It's ALMOST always about MONEY issues, or EGO issues (EX: Sharon Osbourne would have YOU write all the songs, and then she tells you "you're only getting 5% of the credit for YOUR work! We're taking the rest!" THE ENTIRE MACHINE is corrupt in ways like that.) ...but I can imagine MUSTAINE is a TOUGH BOSS, b/c he's actually really smart but also brutally honest. (I'm sure he was tough on them: "that lead is WEAK. try again")
BY COMPARISON, Kiko has so many skills (ex: even flamenco guitar etc) that Mustaine finally has a guitarist who is SUPERIOR to Dave's playing!

There is nothing negative or even surprising being said here. Megadeth is Dave's band and any little bit of creative input accepted by his subordinates will always be done so purely to his liking. Clearly, both of these guys were honored to play with such a legendary Musician/band, but no one with songwriting aspirations would want to do that forever. It was just time for them to move on to their own creative endeavors and open the door for a couple more lucky musicians to eagerly take their spots.

3:25 ..not for him, but was for M. Friedman, though, who created the lead guitar sound for Megadeth. Those broad brush solos by Broderick didn't cut the mustard, that's for sure. Notes, notes, notes and more notes, instead of feel, notes, nuance, and feel along. Proper phrasing, in other words, not with a metronome.

Let's remember how people like Menza who say that Megadeth was "Dave's dream" had to fight with him for his own creations.
Besides look at Kiko how he cannot even speak on the interviews and is always relegated to a second place, you can see how he does not speak about Dave on his channel etc Chris has Endgame and 13 then supercollider arrived Marty had RIP, Countdown, Youthanasia and CW before Risk and being blamed by Dave over its failure, Glen and Poland did not even last enough.

      @_Chipster Před 4 lety

Sort of, part of the reason Marty left was because Mustaine recorded Breadline's solo which replaced Marty's solo, the rest of it being was creative differences with Mustaine's direction - Megadeth was losing some of it's "heaviness" and Marty wanted to keep up musically with newer bands that were becoming heavier and faster.

This particular line up was very talented & so continues the Megadeth roller coaster of band members that Dave Mustaine continues to keep on doing. Shawn & Glen Drover are Canadian & reside in Toronto or the G.T.A. which is huge, but I loved it when Shawn & Glen Drover were in Megadeth together for the sole reason that their Canadian as well as amazing musicians obviously. But if Shawn Drover & Chris Broderick thought that they were going to ride the coat tails of being former Megadeth members & making it big per say then that’s highly unlikely & no disrespect to Shawn & Chris because there both sic musicians in there own right & the cool thing about Shawn Drover is that he can play lead guitar just as well as he can drum as well as his brother Glen Drover which is super cool & it’s kinda like being bilingual with your language in which can open up a lot more doors for you 😃. • @dumpygoodness4086

      that effects MOST bands!
EX: the Beatles fell apart b/c PAUL was a better musician than the other 3 combined. So every time George would try to record his LEAD GUITAR parts, they'd waste HOURS and he couldn't come up with anything. (He was the Kirk Hammett of The Beatles!) So then George Martin would say "Let's let PAUL give it a shot"... and Paul would immediately lay down a killer solo and they'd be DONE. You can imagine how George, Ringo, and John RESENTED Paul's talents etc. They also said they came to hate him BECAUSE he was "always right"!! YIKES!
TO MAKE GREAT MUSIC... YOU MUST BREAK SOME EGGS (hurt some feelings, to raise the Quality Control). That's WHY most movies, tv shows, bands SUCK. Coddling untalented people or weak ideas.

That's actually quite funny looking back on the past year. Kiko Loureiro practically does a CZcams channel on the side and played in a very light brazillian band called Angra, came in with little thrash metal/heavy metal experience, but helped write 3 of the best songs on Dystopia. Then comes Chris Adler and he played for 2 bands at the same time and still made it work. Chris even got Megadeth a better drummer before he left.
Kiko has done all he could on his own to make a name for himself and Megadeth is an opportunity for him to really showcase his talent and he has done that already, in my books. He understands the direction Megadeth is going and how to make the music better. Excuses are excuses. Seasoned musicians don't make excuses, they know what their capabilities are. I really can't wait for the next album because I reckon it's going to be the best record 'Deth has put out since Rust in Peace.

Alfred Ferrarini Unfortunately these guys are about as generic as every other metal band out there. If they're happy being generic and playing in bars, then more power to them. But if they expect to make it big, then they're in for a rude awakening because Chris may be a great technical lead guitarist, but he has about as much creativity and originality as a varnished 2x4.

Chris was popular long before Megadeth though with Nevermore.
I think he was just tired of Mustaine writing everything himself and poo-pooing his ideas; I don't think it has anything to do with him trying to make a name for himself.
But yeah...The leads are great but the rhythms are generic and the vocalist seems to lack the ability to do anything other than distorted / screamed vocals all the time, which gets quite cumbersome.
