Dude's voice sounds shot in this. Like, lower pitched compared to the studio version, seemed to be struggling a bit with those high pitched screeches he does, like when he says "like the coming of the tide" He had such a unique voice, must have been tough doing it night after night on tour.
The beginning of the song with the lyrics "February 2, 1980", was based on the New Mexico Prison Riot where 33 inmates were butchered and dismembered in a horrific brutal grotesque fashion.
The studio version rules, but I still like how Souza's vocals here are clear and highlight the song's lyrical mastery, because there's no better or more meaningful rhyming and reasoning in any other metal song. 👊
That was some brutal energy. This song is one of the best to come out of the 80s thrash era!
Sucks you can barely hear Gary but hearing the low end so clearly in a live recording from this era is a treat in itself
