With their 2015 debut Birth And The Burial, Act Of Defiance delivered a blast of pure and unadulterated metal that ignored fads and hit home hard. Returning with the crushing Old Scars, New Wounds, they have only upped the stakes. "Act Of Defiance is built around the idea of writing and composing the way we want without any other influences on the music, and if people don't like it, that's fine," guitarist Chris Broderick states plainly. Drummer Shawn Drover agrees. "We don't write to please a certain musical demographic or try to sound like another trendy band at the moment. We just write how we write and formulate heavy metal songs that we like, and hopefully others may like as well." With titanic anthems such as "Overexposure" and "Rise Of Rebellion" and the in-your-face blasts of "Molten Core" and "Another Killing Spree", they prove their mettle time and again. Moreover, each of the eleven tracks sound fresh and urgent while wielding a timeless quality that will connect powerfully with metal fans new and old - and there aren't many contemporary bands who can make such a claim. - Hudba

Maybe some people do not like Shawn very much because he gets serious while he plays, but he's a great drummer after all and does his job perfectly. Rock on /,,/

Freakin solid! Much improved over the first album. Broderick is a beast. I actually hear some Sifringer (Destruction) type riffs early on. Drover seems more inspired and Derek has got some great range. I hope they gain some success!

@@JohnnyTheNiceGuy to be fair.... this all sounds like ass from a listening stance.... everything is against you...1 your streaming this(that effects quality) or if you have it downloaded then its a compressed file like a Mp3 you lose tone when you compress the master recoding to a Mp3 ... but only an audiophile would notice... that's why some older music sounds more alive

This is SO MUCH BETTER than the first album. Much better. Vocals are great and, the playing, well... always inspiring.
I like Broderick, I hear 3 bands at the same time all are him: Nevermore, Megadeth, Jag Panzer; he's so him in playing even in those bands. I'm glad he formed this group with Shawn.

Loved the first album and will definitely be picking this one up. Glad to see they haven't slowed down a bit. Hope to see them live soon. I can only imagine the pit.

I saw and met them (VIP) last year in Greensboro NC with Hell Yeah, and the place was packed. AOD kicked major ass that night. These guys are really bad ass live, and interact so well with the crowd. Well worth seeing them live, and all the guys are so cool and laid back. Hoping to see them on the upcoming tour.

This is definitely a much more elaborate work since Birth and the Burial. Riff more techniques and better rhythms. It makes me happy this new job.

Chris Broderick's guitar playing on this AOD album is off the charts excellent. The best shred playing I've heard since Marty Friedman on Megadeth's Rust in Peace.

Came here to see what I'm in for this Friday when I go to see Armored Saint, since these guys are opening. I think I could stand this as an opening act though I'm not a huge fan. I can't knock it too much since it's Drover and Broderick so if they're good enough for Dave they're good enough for me.

Fucking awesome chris really shows his talent here. Not to say his solos weren't good in megadeth they were amazing. I just felt he wasn't showing his true talent like he is now in act of defiance and I love this song.
