I'm crying watching you listen and seeing you appreciate how amazing this album is. I will always remember your reaction whenever I listen to this again, and I listen to it every week.
Please get Mark Hollis, his solo album. He pushes the limits even more with that.

This is one of my favorite albums. New Grass puts me on another plane. It was my ringtone for a while for my loved ones 😅 And I wanted it played at my funeral, but no longer... I just can't stain such a beautiful song like that with such sadness. Anyway, I'm super happy you enjoyed it, but I'm not at all surprised!

Gorgeous album, along with Spirit of Eden. You listen to both of these albums and you realise just how much Thom Yorke loves Talk Talk and how much he drew from them throughout Radiohead's releases.

I knew you'd enjoy this one. This was my first exposure to Talk Talk and it took me a couple listens to understand, but now it's one of my favorites! :) I agree with you about New Grass. It feels like a literal highlight on a very dark and somber album.

The best album of the 90's. Perhaps the best album I've ever heard. Rarely has a band managed to connect with my spirit like Talk Talk did with Laughing Stock.

Dude, so glad you covered this one! This is a wild piece of work - I don't even really know how to approach it. It feels like the obelisk from 2001, jutted down in the middle of pop music.

I don't know if it's actually intended or not, but I've heard that the main concept of the album is dying, being judged in purgatory and finally reaching heaven (New Grass), with Runeii summarizing the album from God's perspective

    • @snowy6301
      @snowy6301  Před rokem +7

If that’s the case, that is such an awesome concept wtf

To me, Myrrhman definitely sounds like thoughts of suicide from a Christian's perspective, which would make sense with the following Ascension Day

  • @JonathanFranchi

I'm so glad this album plus Massive Attack's Mezzanine grabbed and moved you so much.
For me the environments, colours and aromas they create link me to so many good and happy people and places of my life.
Sadly Mark Hollis passed away in 2019 after fighting cancer. He was one person I truly wanted to meet and talk with. Talk Talk's drummer and bassist Lee Harris and Paul Webb carried on this sound with their .O.Rang group.
To hear how Talk Talk began forming the abstract sound heard in Lauging Stock, listen to one of my favourite ever b-sides of theirs: It's Getting Late In The Evening. Perfection and beauty.

Yeesss this is one of my favorite albums ever!! Glad to see you listening to it.
I know everyone has been recommending Soundtracks for the Blind for Swans, but with just finishing The Glowing Man I feel like you should go in Leaving Meaning instead. You seemed to enjoy when Swans would shift more into the musical and beautiful on some of the songs and Leaving Meaning is a much more subtle, americana folksy album than the ones previous. Also a BIT smaller at an hour and a half haha, small for swans anyway.

Mark Hollis has some uncredited piano on the first Unkle album, and the drum track from New Grass is sampled in the Thom Yorke song on that album. Radiohead learned a lot of tricks from Laughing Stock as well, I suspect.

Someone recommended me the last two Talk Talk albums which at first i didn't think would do much for me as I thought of them as a super 80s synth pop band but Spirit and Laughing Stock got me completely out of a really distressing creative block. So glad to see you enjoyed the album, it's worth looking stuff on it as well:)

Dude, you could totally have a podcast where you explore new albums. I'd listen! CZcams is a great platform but I could totally see you venturing into podcastland and having a good time of it. You are a true lover and deep listener of music, with something good to say/contribute. I think it would be awesome to hear you go long form and springboard into all sorts of interesting things. Not many people these days appreciate just sitting with an album and a good pair of headphones. That level of attention and patience is commendable and I think you would flourish sharing more of your thoughts in a separate medium. Just an idea for you to throw on the backburner!

For myself Laughing Stock likely ranks as the greatest recorded album of a lifetime. Beyond creative or catagorization. Deep waters and the recording sessions were maddening for some of those involved. Engineer Phill Brown has some interesting discussion of the work and manner of making this album.

Hey man, I found your channel recently and I want to tell you that you're so fucking underrated. I love your album reactions and how genuinly you seem to enjoy music. I legit haven't written a comment in like a year or so, and I haven't subscribed to anyone in a while, but I think you deserve it . Keep it up man.
Also, you should make a discord server or something for your community to gather, if you use that, maybe.
