  • Here's the fantastic Spinners performing live How Could I Let You Get Away, with Philippe Wynne doing impersonations of Al Green, Otis Redding, and Sam Cooke.
The Spinners rate as one of the most fantastic groups along with The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Dramatics, The OJays, The Stylistics, The Whispers, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, and The Delfonics. They were apart of the golden age of classic soul groups who mesmirized us with their dances, energy, and love songs.
It's Ashame, Rubberband Man, Mighty Love, Could It Be I'm Falling In Love, I'll Be Around, Mighty Love, One of a kind Love Affair, Ghetto Child, Sadie, How Could I Let You Get Away, Then Came You, Games People Play, Love Don't Love NoBody, were among their biggest hits, making them the premier group of the 70's.

I Love the Spinners. But what I really LOVED WAS watching PHILIPI WYNN ON STAGE ‼️ HE WAS A TRUE PROFORMER IN EVERY SINCE OF THE WORD. IT'S SO UNFORTUNATE THAT THEY'RE NO LONGER AROUND.❤️

Simply the best of times. I saw them live in Atlanta in 1975 and became a Philippe fan forever and a day.
This group was better than the Temps even though they didn't have the fame.

Philippe Wynn may very well be the greatest improvisational singer of all time. In every live performance you see of his, he always incorporates some genuine, unique conversational-type ad libs. He isn't widely enough known. I guess part of that is due to truly great unison in which the Spinners performed and recorded...such great harmonies. I still believe he should be more recognized for his unique talent and outstanding voice...one of the best ever.

I was a small kid when these great groups were around in the '70s...Thanks to the technology of CZcams, and other broadcasts I have a greater appreciation for the Temps, Four Tops, Jacksons, Earth Wind & Fire, The Gap Band, Lakeside, The Isley Brothers, and so many other groups I may have forgotten...I would like to think I've seen them all that are available...I just feel that the most underrated group had to be the Spinners...Their songs were so meaningful: such as It's A Shame...continued...

One of my favorites from the Spinners. As a kid of the 70's, i will never forget the Spinners with Philippe Wynne in the group. This song, Sadie, and Rubber band man are my favorites. Just about everything the Spinners did in the 70's i loved. I remember going on road trips with my family, or cookouts we would listen to these great groups on the radio.

I always thought The Spinners Live album was one the greatest albums ever. I know this isn't exactly how they did this song then, but it's close enough. Thank you for posting this gem.

Tell me Phillipe didn't bring it? I would have loved to see him live in person. Rest King, rest!

Wow. So this is the concert and vocals used for The Spinners Live album. Philipe blew the roof off of these vocals. The backing sounds by the group are amazing. The Spinners were just as talented as the Temps, Four Tops, Stylistics, Dramatics. Both The Spinners and The Dramatics have not been given their rightful due.

This video appears to be a made-for-television production. While it is representative of their stage performances during the same time period (I saw them every time they came to Memphis, when Phillippe was a member), this is not the audio from the SPINNERS LIVE! album (Latin Casino, NJ). Nevertheless, I DO enjoy this video of their classic stage act! 😃

I truly miss performers like this. In Boston we had a club called The Sugar Shack...Saw the Spinners (and many other great groups) perform there several times.

From countless hits with the spinners to riffing on "knee-deep" (funkadelic), the incomparable Philippe Wynne was one of the best to ever do it. Never got his props from a recognition standpoint, but his talent was undeniable.

Wow! This was a great performance by one of the all time gretest R&B groups! Just so happens they're doing one of my favorite songs as well! As much acclaim as they enjoyed, I still think this group was underrated! They just killed this tho!!! Thanks for posting!!!
