It's lost forever. The African American Ghetto deteriorated further, and the culture that created this beautiful music all degraded into the foul, vile, gangster hig hop culture of the late 20th and now, early 21st century A.D..
Philippe Wynn took the last verse and ran with it. I couldn’t do nothing but smile through it all. That man knew he could sing and shout. The Spinners left us with some great music. R.I.P. to all of them. 🙏🏾🤎
This is when music was music and the men wore nice suits and dressed like gentlemen becaue many of them were gentlemen. They were nice guys back stage and they could really sing! I am honored to have grown up in the 1970s. Last Great decade for black music.
Im a black south african and I HAVE to take my hat off for my other Black sisters and brothers in America for pure talent..Your music never dissapoints
+Sandy Silvie The Spinners are still performing and still are a class act. The only surviving original member is Henry Fambrough who runs the operation.
Felipe Wynn was one of the greatest front men in the history of music. Watching and listening to him was soul music but it felt like you were in church.
I love Bobby Smith's voice. He MADE the Spinners, period; but the brother with the glasses on the end, Philippé Wynne (sometimes called "Walker") also had a beautiful voice and did the lead on "How Could I Let You Get Away." RIP to both Wynne (1984) and Smith (2013). They both contributed to wonderful memories from my childhood of music and books--my entire life then and now . . .
+Ellesia Blaque Sounds like you are throwing in Phillipe Wynne as some afterthought. The Spinners would not be legendary without his leads and bring it home vocals at the end of songs. And of course he was the lead on many more songs. No one could have done Sadie better than that brother.
stonedog23: Philipe later on realized that humbleness was the biggest attribute of the group once he realized that his ego got the best of him when he left The Spinners. It is the sum of the whole that made it great. Him, Bobby and Henry were amazing singers and I will appreciate their distinctive voices forever. She wasn't discrediting Philipe, she acknowledge his beautiful voice.
Ellesia, me too, when I was 9 my dad bought me a little transistor radio. I held it right against my ears, back and forth, and listening to Motown in Philly! If I wasnt in school I was on my radio.
Ms. Nini George Clinton recruited phillipe for funkadelic 'Uncle Jam' he did 'knee deep, uncle jam wants you, field maneuvers' you cans see his great performance live 'uncle jam wants you'
The Spinners are just amazing. Between Bobby & Philippe's voices and Thom Bell's amazing sound that he created with them, it just boggles my mind that they never won a Grammy and were never inducted into the RRHF. I say, since the band is still around and still with two original members, it's time for the Grammy's to do right by them and give them a Lifetime Achievement award or something. Make it happen!
Todays talent is found in a mascara bottle, a clothing rack and AUTO TUNES program. As observed by Robin Thicke losing the court case for his " Blurred Lines " blatant ripoff of Marvin Gayes " Gotta give It up", originality has lost its way. The age of the sample and steal is alive. When will we find real music again?
1mikera Please check out my rendition of a great Leon Russell piece made most popular by George Benson, by searching "Mike sings This Masqurade", and tell me what you think. Thanks
I have never understood Racism,my old man was a Paddy.....he always said"Treat everyone as you find them",RIP Dad.........best advice Ive ever had !Mum was the same,my life is more enriched.
As a blond-haired white kid born in 1964, in retrospect one of the best things that happened to me was having a dad who was in the Navy and was exposed to lots of different music. I grew up listening to 8 track tapes my dad had like the Spinners, Booker T and MGs, etc.. This is good stuff.
Musical artists were so classy back in the day in both lyrics and group presentation. I can't imagine seeing a group come out in suits these days. The Spinners are one of my fave 60s-70s groups and this is one of their best songs, IMO. Such sweet lyrics.
Young brothers wanting to play music, take note! These guys worked their asses off and their music has lasted AND GROWN IN popularity over the last four decades. True grit, true work, true sweat, true soul. Long after hip-hop is forgotten, someone will be listening to The Spinners. Just a thought.
Yeah!!! people that grew up during the 70's have to be proud of this level of talent and performance by a generation of artists, musicians ad overall innovative rhythm.....that it is until today the bases, the grounds , the core for modern music, not only for hip hop and R&B music and not only for Black Generations to come, but this artestry it serves as inspiration for many genres throughout the world......I am proud to be Peruvian American but as Latino, and I hope to speak for every Latin beat sound that we listen to,.....Disco Era probably remains as one of the best things that happen to music....if not the best.
I remember being 13 yrs old, parents just bought a house in a small Oklahoma town where I grew up my whole life. At 13 I had a transister radio, with the one "ear plug", and there were no FM stations, (what was that?) this was 1973 & the clearest station was W,,,,U,,,,L,,,,S,,,,Chicago! Listening to the Spinners, they had me singing along with every song. I would pretend to be the "lead singer" & would sing all night long. Man, this was class! I can still pull up one of their songs and sing along as if it were yesterday. What a priveldge it was to have grown up listening to such great artists such as the Spinners. "Make a blind man talk about seein again, woo baby, one of kind,,,love affair was", Oh yeah! THE BEST TIMES!
I grew up on the other side in Southern Ca, and these guys were just getting hot while I was a just starting high school, with It's a Shame. I loved this group and I remember dancing to these great songs at our school dances after the football games. My husband and I will be going to see them in N. Nevada in July, and though I know there's only one original left, I think it's a beautiful tribute to these past members of this fabulous group. May they all rest in peace, and thank you for the memories.
I was born in 71, but I have older siblings that exposed to the hits throughout my childhood. I still listen to this to this day. This brings back memories!
On this day in 1973 {February 25th} "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by the Spinners peaked at #4 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it had entered the chart on December 24th, 1972 at position #79 and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100 {and for 6 of those 15 weeks it was on the Top 10}... And on February 4th, 1973 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... Between 1961 and 1995 the group had twenty-nine records on the Top 100; with six making the Top 10 and two reaching #2, the two #2s were "The Rubberband Man" {for 3 weeks in 1976} and "Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me, Girl" {for 2 weeks in 1980}...
This song just melts my heart and this performance is pure fire! Definitely legendary and the vocals by Bobby Smith and Philippe Wynn with Thom Bell's production on the studio version is magic. This song reminds me of my very young and beautiful mom who used to sing this while I was riding shotgun with her in the front and my little brother and sister were in the back. ah the 70s- sweet, sweet, memories of days gone by. The long overdue nomination into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame announced today brought me back to look for this gem. Thanks for posting.
I love this video. They switched it to an entirely different arrangement by the end of the song. The crowd was into it, it was just perfect. I like this over the album or any other live version I have heard.
I agree - it was nice to seem them with an actual live show, too. Many of their videos on the internet seem to be lip-syncing for big television shows back in the day.
Love this raw footage. New song, no studio, you can hear each part and the band. LOVE IT! I don't know how the audience just sat there for long before they really got into it. I'd have been going nuts from jump start. This is real music, real musicianship--joy!
In 1973 after graduating from high school I fell in love with you. I met you at my first job, working at a theater in our small town as an usher, you, worked concession. I took you to college every morning and we watched every movie at the theater together for free, just like we were dating. Then one day I remember waiting for you to come from class and then I saw who you were with and who you were meeting. You never knew I loved you at least it was love in my mind and in my heart. I often think of you Debbie and wonder if you're still alive or where you are. I remembered you today when I heard this.
What an example of black BEING beautiful IT doesn’t get a whole lot better than the spinners we love these guys back here in California. Mesa thank you so much my friends who love the spinners thank you
Starbucks coffee shops in Japan are playing this number recently. While listening to the audio is still fun, watching this video is much more enjoyable. As other users commented, their performance is energetic and entertaining. Good music survives. Thanks for sharing this!
Can't believe they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and they never won a Grammy. They've been together for 60 years. They sang everything. Great music. They're in my Hall of Fame !!!
PHLIPPIE WINN DIED ON STAGE WHEN HE WAS WITH THE FUNK ADELIC BAND HE HAD A MASSIVE HEART ATTACK BUT MAN OH MAN COULD HE SING, I USED TO LOVE THE SPINNERS THEY WERE GREAT IN THE 70'S, ALL THERE MUSIC WAS GREAT AND I LOVED THE SONG "GAME'S PEOPLE PLAY" THAT SONG WAS THE BOMB. 👍👍👍🗯🗯🗯
Yeah, I'm only 29 and my Dad exposed me a lot to this music which is what I mostly listen to. Life was also a lot tougher to with politics and the Vietnam War.
I was a white kid growing up in Indiana listening to this! There was racial tension, and I hadn't a clue why? I just loved the music and didn't care what color skin you had when singing it! Just bring it! Now going over to find games people play! I always loved singing the high parts! LOL
"there was racial tension".... No, there was racial tension on the news, in reality most people (99%) live and let live and don't care if others are different or live different. The news would have you believe everybody was out to kill each other though.
What a joy to watch them perform. They looked they were just totally into the moment, watching over ten years of sweat and labor finally pay off. The Spinners were a great part of music in my growing up years.
TIMELESS music loved their sound for years, nobody had their CLASS and SOPHISTICATION. They were just goodllooking, well dressed and had smooth vocals.....
Props to Bro Ellis Haizlip, the Producer and main host of SOUL! He insisted that most performances be live. Amazing that high quality culture like this was available nationwide on a weekly basis via broadcast TV! Can we replicate this in 2018? As for the Spinners, Superb!!! They turned the joint out!
Honoring and remembering Henry Fambrough who passed 2 days ago at the age of 85. He was the last remaining original member of the Spinners. Great music and man who will not be forgotten. RIParadise Henry. This music is so nostalgic and reminds me of family members who are now long gone. Many great memories along with great music. And those musicians also were rocking the house. Such excellent live focals.
A celebration of new-found love supported by confident, focused choreography. Beats so many acts today who get sloppy or flame out under the influence.
most of the musical acts today dont do it for the love of music and it shows in their performance and choice of material. Thats why they BURN OUT so quick and leave a legacy of nothing
It's easy to see Wynne's brilliance but if you look a little harder you see something similar in Bobby Smith. Also i'm impressed by how hard everybody is working. Even the hand clapping is intense, all designed to put on a great show.
I thought this was probably the most beautiful piece of music I had ever heard....it was my number 1 for years. This group were amazing......they were the best on Atlantic records....
some of the music my son listens to (he is 33 years old) makes me want to get up and just plow my head right into the side of the house. How the heck do you relax or fall in love to music like that?
Ahhhhhh...... the good old days when live versions sounded as good or better than the recordings! No auto tune, no lip sync, no tracks - just pure talent!
lol isn't it funny how you remember certain things from music. I've always remembered things from the music itself - not the actual record lol but this is a good one :)
I recently retired from a middle school and to hear some of the kids singing songs like this is amazing. They'll tell you that their great grandmother or grandmother plays this music all the time and they love it. 😃😃
I was 12 years old in 1973 and what I like to observe in these performances from the 1970's is the joy and happiness of the singers when singing their songs it's so refreshing to see smiles on faces.
BREAKING NEWS: The Spinners are inducted into the 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
50 Year Record Award 📀
Its about time. The best of the best.
They are my favorite group of all! 💖
@@lauraswihart4816 They should have been in the hall of twenty some years ago. What a rip off. They put "S" in soul and the "R" in rock and roll.
Really ! Thats amazing ! Bout damn time
Someone please bring this kind of music back. I agree, the 70's had the best music.
Only real talent could return this kind of music.
It's lost forever. The African American Ghetto deteriorated further, and the culture that created this beautiful music all degraded into the foul, vile, gangster hig hop culture of the late 20th and now, early 21st century A.D..

Bobby Smith's vocals - incredible. Smooth and soulful.
Finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took four tries, but they finally made. Well deserved.

He was absolutely amazing as a lead singer.
So slept on. Philippe got all the credit ... But Bobby was the ❤️ of the group
Im a black south african and I HAVE to take my hat off for my other Black sisters and brothers in America for pure talent..Your music never dissapoints
We appreciate the love, brother.
Bobbie Smith is a very underrated singer. Smooth voice, smooth moves. And Phillipe Wynne brought it home. Perfect combination
In my humble opinion - the finest SOUL band that ever graced the earth. Outstanding performance - wish I could have been there!!
One of the sweetest love songs ever!!
The Spinners were pure class.
+Sandy Silvie The Spinners are still performing and still are a class act. The only surviving original member is Henry Fambrough who runs the operation.
+Tim Hemingway I saw them a few months ago. Not the same as expected.

Incredable talented group of superstars, glad I grew up with them on the radio

This song brought me through some ruff times, away from my girl in a foreign land serving my country. But this song kept me straight. Thanks Spinners
Right on family!
Robert - thank you for the sacrifices you made serving our country!
Spinners picked up the Motown mantle for the 70's and were such a part of my youth - trip down memory road....70's soul carried the torch.

I thought this was probably the most beautiful piece of music I had ever heard....it was my number 1 for years. This group were amazing......they were the best on Atlantic records....
Have you ever heard of a little song called My Girl?
+Rupert Kinnard "Have you ever heard of a little song called My Girl?" I have. This song beats the pants off that song.
music is not the same makes me ssd
+hope goldman what is the world coming too.
some of the music my son listens to (he is 33 years old) makes me want to get up and just plow my head right into the side of the house. How the heck do you relax or fall in love to music like that?
That was truly wonderful.
They were great but lets give a shout out to musicians backing the Spinners. They were great.
Ahhhhhh...... the good old days when live versions sounded as good or better than the recordings! No auto tune, no lip sync, no tracks - just pure talent!
One of the happiest groups of the era,all their songs were fun and uplifting…wonderful!
Yup!!
that is why it is up to people like me and you to keep this music alive by playing it all the time.
great music will never fade or die
I absolutely love these guys forever!!!!
So much joy back then. I remember I accidently left my Dad's Spinners record on the dashboard in the car and it got warped in the sun.
lol isn't it funny how you remember certain things from music. I've always remembered things from the music itself - not the actual record lol but this is a good one :)
This is great and timeless AMERICAN music. Embrace it! Love it!
I recently retired from a middle school and to hear some of the kids singing songs like this is amazing. They'll tell you that their great grandmother or grandmother plays this music all the time and they love it. 😃😃
so great to hear music that has meaning and is everlasting.
wonderful an actual live performance and they all sound great!
Goodbye Bobbie Smith. You will be missed. Thank you for gracing us with your voice and music. I love The Spinners!
I loved the Spinners when they made their first album; still love them.
I was 12 years old in 1973 and what I like to observe in these performances from the 1970's is the joy and happiness of the singers when singing their songs it's so refreshing to see smiles on faces.
