after work swim adventure

- On a sunny Sunday we had an after work swim adventure. Having not swum in that river before, it was a bit of a safari, we spotted kingfishers, dragonflies, people in their pants, it was all happening! Love discovering a new spot. Special thanks to the advice from a fellow swimmer who was about to bike home after her early-morning dip, it turned out to be a cracker or a circular swim. #outdoorswimming #swim #microadventure

Really enjoyed the relaxing vibe of the video and the reminder to chose the swim for you rather than getting swept up in distances, times or what others are doing. Look forward to your next video. Thanks
What a lovely swim, and a special bonus for a work day. My circular swims involve doing laps round a bay on the coast!!!
Laps round a bay are great too, just so nice to be in the water, it was a brilliant treat for after work!
Ah! I love a good "dam the man" adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it, we had great fun 🏊♀️😀
WoW… Swimming GOLD for sure!! Everything’s amazing… the scenery, the bridge with the archway and the curvy concrete pillars, the weir, and the local folks enjoying the water. I am super-intrigued by the long skinny boats… I was going to ask if people live on them full-time but one of them even had houseplants, and many had bikes which tells me they must be floating homes for some lucky folks. It would be sooo fun to spend a night or two on one of those boats and check out some more swim areas. Here in the PNW (🇨🇦) it would be a death mission to swim in the local rivers right now due to Spring freshet. No river swimming here until late June or early July… until then the lakes are awesome. Bears, a moose, and a loon have been keeping me company. Thanks for this great video Rachel and Ali. As always, it was fun, relaxing, and so interesting 🏊♀️💦
Hi Mary, I thought you'd enjoy the narrrowboats, in fact I thought of you when I shot that part of the video. We were actually working on a narrowboat that day, we should definetly get out on one if you come over. Quite a few of the boats moored along the Kennet and Avon canal near to Bath are liveaboards, they mostly have permanent moorings and barely move. Other people liveaboard but have a 'constant cruiser' license for their boat which means they can stay a maximum of 2 weeks at a particular spot on a canal. Sounds like you have som good swimming company at the moment - stay safe!
So enjoying watching your videos while I'm"confined to barracks " really cheering. Thank you
How long is the confinement set to continue? I’m chuffed to hear I’m keeping you company. Hopefully not too long until you can get back in x
@@EverydayAthleteRach thank you for asking. Incremental improvement each day and a really useful GP appointment yesterday, so now we have a plan . We have the books out and are planning, so I must be feeling a bit better. How is your long covid?
@@ecoldham4057 good that you have a plan. Thanks for asking about the LC - I think I’m slowly on the mend 🏊♀️😀
Cool to be 🏊♂️ where there were 3 modes of transport. Rail, canal and river!
It was really cool, we'll certainly be back again! Thanks for watching!
Great Video..Thankyou!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it 🏊♀️😀
Grt video rach , loved ally’s footwear for the water 💦 & some interesting views 😂
They are the Decathlon Aqua shoes, great value and I can fit my wetsuit socks in them as well 👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed! Ali is a style-icon, but also one who can find a thrifty bargain. I may upgrade to those when it come time to retire mine!
This my local swim. I am glad you enjoyed it.
It’s an absolute peachy if a swim do you swim further downstream too?
@@EverydayAthleteRach I have not done this. Also a nice swim is from Batheaston Secret garden to the toll bridge.
Oh, that was great to watch. I'd love to have someone to do that kind of exploring with. How interesting to have the canal running on top of the river. I've never seen that in an old canal like that. Thanks for the video.
You'd be surprised how up for it friends can be, otherwise, joining a local facebook swim group can help with finding swim-minded friends 🏊😃
That looks magical and overall I think I enjoy your 'in land' swims more than the coastal ones but both are fab.
Could you make another umbles related video in light of what nearly happened to Christian Eriksen on sat? Perhaps what to do if a swim partner or even a stranger suddenly collapses whether in the water or not. And measures to take if alone as you would be buggered in the water or anywhere alone
Nice to see you swimming by a railway - they're by many swim spots in land and on the coast eg in Devon and Northumbria and other places and I think it's a glorious site.
Level crossing safety awareness could be another video idea? I bet so many desperate to jump in the water and cool down or if already stripped to cossie feeling a bit conscious would run the risk in that situation and not doing so is even more responsible than the litter picking you do
I'll have a think about a what to do in an emergency video, thanks for the suggestion Dave.
What a lovely swim trip! If you ended up where I think you did, it's not all that far from me so I must give it a try. Some lovely pubs out that way too 😉
It was a brilliant swim. I’d have felt a tad more relaxed if I’d have put my wetsuit on but I left it at home!
What a lovely swim! Love it when you get info from another swimmer who knows the route, currents etc. Do have allogators as well as logadiles?
Well do you know what, I didn't spot any, but I could have been mistaken as now I think of it that does look like an allogator doesn't it, maybe the logadiles are more likely in coastal areas. I'll keep my wits about me.
Good recce! Great to do a bit or research and especially talk to locals, good tip. Looks so tranquil. Happy days!
It was lovely we saw 3 or 4 kingfishers but too quick and small to catch properly on a GoPro!
@@EverydayAthleteRach Oh wow that is something special. You've just got to take that moment for yourself and appreciate the beauty. The world is a beautiful place. Happy swimming and hope to see you soon. Hannah
Hi Rachael, have you done any video on swimming in deep water. I have an irrational fear of deep water and was wondering if you have any tips and tricks. I usually swim on my own which doesnt help.
Not yet! I have done one about what to do when panic strikes in which I menition that deep water can bring this on. I'll have a think about it and see what I can put together. Thanks for the idea :)
People in their pants, love it!
Not just the odd one either!
I swim daily in the ocean (PNW) - however generally avoid the non-glacial or snowmelt rivers, with the discharge from farms. Due you swim with head above water only?
Hi Harry, thanks for commenting, I know I have at least one other viewer in PNW, although she swims in lakes. If I'm swimming socially, or in a fast moving river it's head up, if I'm training or Wnting to check out the under water view, I swim front crawl.
I didn't know you could swim in UK rivers!
Definetly, there’s loads of rivers that people swim in here!
Really enjoyed that vid.👏 And dryrobe in the swim float?! I'll have to give that a try.
Ali had a short sleeve dryrobe. If it doesn’t fit get a bigger towfloat 🏊♀️😀
Jimmy it only works when you have a Rachel with you to carry the stuff you can no longer fit in your tow float 😂
😂 I would have tow a canoe to carry all my kit😂
@@jimmysqueezyronin5623 🛶🤣
How did you get a forcefield around your feet? 06:52
I was as surprised as anyone at the new found super power, but I put it to good use to keep Ali at bay.
2:35 Hey Rachel… just curious… what’s that shiny dark green plastic thing in the background when you and Ali are walking down the steps to the river?
Hi Mary, there is a little park in the woods and the green thing is a slide🎢
@@aliselby-nicholls7351 Oh hey Ali, thanks for the info… I thought it looked like a slide. What a great spot for a playground… it’s like a jungle playground 🌴🌳. I love seeing all the fun adventures that you and Rachel find your way into. I would love to join in the fun one day, if I ever make it across the pond. Happy swimming 🏊♀️💦 and Happy World Oceans Day to you 🌊
You'd be most welcome Mary!
