- The HUNT for my downed drone in my backyard pond continues.. but this time I have a new RC HUNTING Tool of choice! This is the PowerVision "Power Dolphin" radio controlled "aquacraft". It is truly an amazing piece of technology that delivers in several areas, never seen before in this pond - and in the hobby industry. This 4K UHD camera boat has the ability to use sonar to find fish below, as well as the model I linked
(GET ONE HERE: amzn.to/3ccmoiV), comes with a bait box, and a fishing line/lure hook that can be released via remote!! The camera is on a robotic arm (gimbal) that can look below the water (Or Above - I did not demonstrate that today), to see everything in a nice clear image - First Person View style. The 2 antenna on the back of this vessel are for the communication between the craft and the radio. The PowerDolphin sets up a wifi network and communicates with the radio, in turn connecting with the Vision+2 application and streaming video straight to your phone or tablet.
The Sonar will take some getting used to. I was super impressed to know it was a fish finder onboard - as well as the artificial intelligence through the app. This makes setting waypoints easy.. and scanning a simple process. I did have a bit of problem getting the "Scan Area" to work properly, although I did get the waypoints to execute. I am wondering if its the software (app) or if my area is affected somehow by interference. I will attempt this again in the near future.
I love the ability of this machine to "putter" its way around the reeds to show us the school of minnows in the pond. it is truly remarkable the technology that is available to the consumer.. that allows us a whole new look into a world seldom seen before.
Are we going to find the lost drone this season?! We will have to try again in the coming days..!

Almost makes you want to drop a cheap/junk drone into the water so so could get an idea of what it might look like on sonar? 🤔
Or if you could just order a cheap shell of that specific drone off of eBay and that way it'd be easier to compare. Could even mark the spot and leave it down and look at how the landscape changes around it over time. Now THAT could be interesting.

I don't really know anything about sonar, but I believe the blue vertical bars that you were seeing were the reflections of solid objects on the bottom. The larger the bar, the larger the object. What you're seeing is basically a vertical slice of the pond, and you're looking at it from the side.

This will help you find the drone. Really cool. If I still fished, I would have one of these for sure.
When you turn up the sensitivity on the sonar, it will show you thermoclines which are different layers of water temperature.

I'm a little surprised you didn't try the submersed feature in your video but, your demonstration won me on both buying this and a 40 mph racing boat :) (after seeing the drone zip around at 10 mph!), so you just made 2 Amazon vendors very happy.

Love it and curious to see what sonar show you if you give him our toys instead of fish. Put the rover on sand at 5meter down and pass with your subDolphin in sonar mode. Let us see what appear and if it could be use for real research of flight mishaps...lol.

Man! That's friggin cool! I put side scan sonar into my kayak and it's amazing how detailed it can get and GPS for the grid pattern stuff. I'm really loving all of the new content,all things I've been doing or thinking of doing! Love it bro,keep it up!

Put an old carcass of a broken drone in the water and sonar over it and see what it comes up as. Take it out and that’s what your looking for

The Power Dolphin is using a bottom sounder sonar to "map" the bottom. When it gets a solid return at an unexpected depth it marks it as a fish. All of the other different colors between the surface and the bottom is noise, either something suspended in the water that doesn't give a solid return (such as plants) or varying temperature layers. If you want to really learn about sonar and all the different things that will affect it, try finding a copy of the RP-33, Fleet Oceanographic and Acoustic Reference Manual. It will go way more in depth than you will ever need, but will teach the basics such as the different types of loss, what the sea bottom (or pond bottom in this case) will cause and other fun facts to bore people with at parties. I was a Sonar Technician in the Navy and this was one of our Bibles. I think your best course of action would be use the Power Dolphin to map the bottom, then send the FiFish in to checkout the anomalies on the bottom. Sorry for the book, but you said you wanted to know! Keep up the videos! My son and I love watching them!

Aaron. I think if you put something on the bottom of the pond where you know it is and can retrieve it, then send the boat over the top scanning, you can learn what you are looking at.
By using different size objects you will learn how sensitive the sonar is.
The harder the object is the better the sonar return.
You will find it.

Hello. Just a small tip from a fisherman. When you were asking what you were seeing, you had your sensitivity too high when you turned it up to 100. Instead try it less than 50, maybe even down to 30. The sonar was picking up all the particulate in the water, which is why you have so much "static" if you will. If you lower your sensitivity, the water column will clear up and only display larger objects like buoyant debris or fish. The image of the bottom will also become clearer and allow objects that may be protruding from the bottom to become visible. With all that interference, you will have a hard time even seeing sticks or weeds let alone the possibility of a prop from your drone sticking out of the mud on the bottom. Also, with the fish icon turned off, they will just appear as "blobs" in the water column once you begin to recognize things. Some circular and some oval.

Looks like a fish finder sonar. It shows a 2D of the depth at the bottom and top is the surface. It's like looking at a fish tank through the side.

You should try magnet fishing with an RC boat to get the drone back!
You should try taking some random objects and tie them to some string and put them in a shallow'ish area of the pond and scan it with the sonar so you can get an idea of what something might look like on the radar
