BROKE
Directed by Billy Corben
More money, more problems. Broke digs into the psychology of men whose competitive nature carried them to victory on the field yet seemed to ruin them off the field.
According to a 2009 Sports Illustrated article, 60 percent of former NBA players are broke within five years of retirement. By the time they have been retired for two years, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress. Sucked into bad investments, stalked by freeloaders, saddled with medical problems, and naturally prone to showing off, many pro athletes get shocked by harsh economic realities after years of living the high life. Drawing surprisingly vulnerable confessions from retired stars like Keith McCants, Bernie Kosar and Andre Rison, as well as Marvin Miller, the former executive director of the MLB Players Association, this fascinating documentary digs into the psychology of men whose competitive nature can carry them to victory on the field and ruin off it. - Zábava

Dis Da Real Advice here
Do not engage in wasteful spending
Eliminate any and all complications
Keep a precise tally of your capital
and then die with a massive amount of savings...what a way to go
@@Jack-qn4vt I can tell by your comment that you live paycheck to paycheck lol
@@humanbeing8449 So so, I'm just saying our lives are more valuable then our money
Your life IS more valuable than money....but that doesn't mean that you should relinquish progress. Surviving life is not living. Living a rich life is not only about amassing wealth; is what you make with that wealth what counts. But if you don't go build that wealth, all you can do is cry beside the ones that you couldn't help
@@humanbeing8449 Yeah sure saving money especially for important things is needed. IMO you can create living a fulfilling/rich life without the extra wealth with the connections you make with people and the things you do ect. To add to my point is like sure build it, but then use it. I think it's stupid to save hundreds of thousands or even millions but then as you get really old with not much left to live for, you give most of it to your kids or close family members...you know what I mean? If not that's cool, we'll agree to disagree

@@Episcleritis Yes, it is good advice. Don't understand why Bill thinks it is absurd.
Legit. He stated it in layman’s terms. A dude from the hood doesn’t want to hear about mutual funds and REITs. He doesn’t understand that. He does understand the three points:
Don’t blow it: a chain and a Lamborghini aren’t appreciating assets. That’s a WASTE. You have to invest and save WAY more than you spend.
Keep it simple: you don’t need multiple homes, multiple cars, multiple wives, multiple baby mamas. One of each. You don’t need multiple hangers-on and people around who do nothing.
Count your money: know how much you have AND DONT HAVE at all times. No one signs your checks but you.

Get complicated
Lose your money
Dave Bryant the basic fundamentals
That's the ex-wifes plan.
Blow it
Spend his money
Get divorced
Spend his money
Here's the advice you give a young man that gets rich overnight.
1. Pay your taxes FIRST.
2. Pay the people you're supposed to pay.
3. No new friends.
2:02 - Bill gets progressive taxation wrong there. You don't pay 40% on 55k. In the US you pay 22% on that. So you'd take home $42,900. In the US you only pay 40% (now 37%) on yearly income over $306k. It's annoying when people misrepresent how progressive taxation works, because it's a good system and gives credence to dumb right wing arguments.
@@cockoffgewgle4993 assuming bill makes over that amount so thats what hes familiar with
Cockoff Gewgle Taking 40% of someone’s cheque is fucking ridiculous no matter how big the cheque is
@@HowIsTheCraic Back in the 70's they used to take 70% from high incomes. They stopped doing that and surprise surprise the government has less money for services and inequality skyrocketed
4. Don't let anyone else have the power to manage your money. Hire an accountant to fill out the tax form, and write the check yourself.
5. Save half of your post tax earnings, put that into Index funds and T-Bills.
That blood in blood out clip was perfect. Glad you’re back with the heat

I've returned to this for the years in a row, it's so good.
The two guys that Bill mentioned specifically were the only ones that I felt bad for, not so much for everyone else.
For example there was this guy that bought a fur coat made of wolf (50K) and he only wore it 3 times. Guaranteed one of those times was when he tried it on at the store.
That was Bart Scott - said "it made me look like a silverback"
Mccants overdosed :(
I had a Flyers player for a nieghbor for three years. he once told me he will be all set when he gets 6mill in the bank. That way he can live off 3% or 180,000 for the rest of his life and still grow the principal. he's a game commentator in Philly now. Great, Smart, Humble guy.

Wealthy people live like they're broke. Poor people live like they're rich.
Some people have money and rarely feel a need to flaunt. Some people have money and need to flaunt it because they have enough. Then there's fake rich people who live large on credit while having you think they're not. Like a coke head who thinks he's hiding something. Which one are you?

Live well below your means. My mother got a huge settlement check almost 20 years ago. Today she has three properties and a good chunk out of it in the bank. If she sold her assets she'd probably be ahead of that original sum.
My friend's father also got a nice settlement check around that time, he immediately bought a brand new car. Today he still has that car but ran out of that money maybe 5 years into receiving it.
NFL stands for not for long.
Lmao till this day I always randomly say in conversations “don’t blow it, keep it simple, count your money”
The Dumbest thing said on that 30 for 30 was Leon Searcy saying he only had $50,000 left & he went out bought a brand new H2 Hummer because he "Had to Have it"!!
Jesus Christ!!🙄 SMH... 😒😒
Look back, he fuck was so attention grabbing about a Hummer, seriously ?
LOL. Then he went to pay the insurance and put gas in it and was like “Shit- I done blew my whole wad. Ain’t that a mutha fukker!”
Yep that thing was the prettiest thing sittin lol if you can afford gas in it you are not going anywhere
That's what happens when you became rich in your late teens or early 20s and never had to say "no" to your impulses.
And he was the one that had a joint checking account with a random broad. The first serious argument and she took out all the money.
And just a few weeks ago, Keith McCants, the guy with 75mil, died from an apparent drug overdose at the age of 53. These athletes live fast and can die young - not to mention all the injuries to their bodies and brain, it's no surprise they burn out fast.
That hurts my heart to hear that news.
That’s fucked
Mccants never had 75 million. Bill’s memory as most faithful listeners know is trash. The highest paid linebacker in the LATE 90s - 10 yrs after mccants came up and 5 years after his career was over - was making like $5 mil a year.
If you listen to the clip that’s in this video, mccants himself lists things he bought and says “that was $7 mil”.
