Well, Russell, in fact it is the Danilovsky Monastery was founded in 1282. But since there was always some markets near the monasteries, the Danilovsky Market is almost the same age as the monastery itself.

You mention $29 per kilo of mangoes is expensive, but in London they sell mangoes for £5-8 each. That's just for 1 mango, and they are not huge here, relatively small. They are imported in both London and Moscow, so the price is really the cost of transportation and refrigeration. But the entire market looks really lovely. Much better than anything I can get in London. The nearest similar thing in London I could think of will be Borough Market.

@@TravellingwithRussell Alright, you've visited the Disneyland for the rich and famous, not it's time to see a real market elsewhere. There are (almost?) none left in Moscow proper, perhaps the Foodcity (just across the MKAD) is the sole exception.

DanIlovskij (accent on the first I). This is very similar to the famous KomarOvsky rynok (market) in Minsk, Belarus, although Komarovka as it's called is certainly not as old.
Ahhh. ok. I haven't been back to this place in a while now. We love the Asian Noodles they make in this place. Russell.
This huge residential building called "The ship" by the locals. This was build by the Ministry of Atomic Industry for their employees. It looks like nuclear plant or something, very brutal even for the Soviet brutalism architecture. This is the all-in-one building: there are shops, cafes, any kind of services on the lowest floors.
