My uncle had this song at his funeral when he died from lung cancer at the age of 40, he had planned his own funeral. That was in 2002. Now I really think of my mom when I hear this, she died in 2019 at the age of 62. She had unexpected complications from a genetic disorder and spent 39 days in ICU before we took her off life support. The lyrics describe her so much, she had a really hard life and always put everyone else first before herself. I truly believe her work on earth was done.

As a fellow Australoan all I can say is just think about the quality of the female back up singers. They are Miss Sonya and Miss Becky Isaacs who are part of the greatest ever Bluegrass/Gospel group. Gordon Mote (blind piano player for the Gaithers) played the piano. I saw Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, & Guy Penrod in the audience. How cool is that!!
I used this song for both my mom's funeral in 2004, and my son's memorial in 2007. The first time I heard it, and numerous times after that, I cried. When I had to prepare for mom's funeral, I listened to the whole song 34 times before I could listen to it without crying. Home Free did an amazing job covering this precious song! My ex-husband was a musician a country musician and used to sing the song and he and I were very close friends even though we were exes we have children together and he died suddenly he drowned and we were in the church the funeral and the church was packed there were people standing outside the church that were so many he was loved so much and all of a sudden this song began to play and I thought the whole church was going to come apart so there are those out here that know the pain and Vince captured lightning in a bottle and it has been used at funerals many many times since it was written and whenever I hear it it takes me back to that moment and he's been gone since 1998 and the song still brings it back that's how powerful music is so you grieve however you need to grieve no one should ever tell you how that happens it is different for every person! ♥️♥️

Everytime I hear this song it brings back memories of how many people my husband and I have personally lost during a 3 year period. It's over 40. I cry everytime I hear it but at the same time I have peace. Thanks so much for doing this one. Lifts my heart up.
So many funerals I have attended with this song played or performed. Don’t be ashamed of your feelings. For some it put their heart at a little ease. Vince Gill is such a great singer/songwriter.
As a fellow Australoan all I can say is just think about the quality of the female back up singers. They are Miss Sonya and Miss Becky Isaacs who are part of the greatest ever Bluegrass/Gospel group. Vince loves their voices and they have toured together. Just magnificent voices and with Vince on the lead it is a magical moment.

I have known this song for many years, but it was one my dad had requested be played at his funeral held this past January.
I just watched this, what a great reaction to a beautiful emotional song. Did you realize this concert was at a Gaither event? Becky & Sonya of the Isaacs were the backup singers. Gordon Mote (blind piano player for the Gaithers) played the piano. I saw Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, & Guy Penrod in the audience. How cool is that!!
Nothing like a Gaither Tent Meeting. All the greats of Gospel music are there. They were showing their love for him at the end.

I used this song for both my mom's funeral in 2004, and my son's memorial in 2007.
The first time I heard it, and numerous times after that, I cried.
When I had to prepare for mom's funeral, I listened to the whole song 34 times before I could listen to it without crying.

My ex-husband was a musician a country musician and used to sing the song and he and I were very close friends even though we were exes we have children together and he died suddenly he drowned and we were in the church the funeral and the church was packed there were people standing outside the church that were so many he was loved so much and all of a sudden this song began to play and I thought the whole church was going to come apart so there are those out here that know the pain and Vince captured lightning in a bottle and it has been used at funerals many many times since it was written and whenever I hear it it takes me back to that moment and he's been gone since 1998 and the song still brings it back that's how powerful music is so you grieve however you need to grieve no one should ever tell you how that happens it is different for every person! ♥️♥️

My husband passed away a month ago and the first time I heard this after his passing it got really ugly, crying, howling and beating on the arm of my chair. it just touches your heart, like no other song I have heard. Go ahead and cry, anyone who has lost a loved one will totally understand.
One thing I forgot to say about my uncle is that absolutely love to sing hymns.so when I think of him I know he's singing right along with the angels and my grandparents.

The song always pulls at my heart. No shame in tears. I've cried a few times listening to this song. Vince's voice alone is emotional enough, but the harmonies are gorgeous. This song reminds me of my late father who was a minister and musician.
