  • G'day guys, today we are reacting to Vince Gill and Patty Loveless singing at George Jones' funeral Go Rest High On That Mountain. This was so emotional and powerful, the way that his voice cracks and unable to sing. Patty was an angel during this performance.

I love how during this performance, Patty saw how much Vince was struggling to hold back his emotions, so she vocally stepped up to help him, and even walked over to comfort him. A true sign of love, compassion, and friendship! A beautiful tribute. R.I.P George 💔

His cousin, Patty Loveless, sure stepped up. You know she was in pain too but she went from harmonizing to lead singer every time he faltered.
By the way, that guitar solo was an instant insertion he did to give himself time to recover

Patty is what what every man needs in his life. That music means so much to people of Appalachia and we all feel it in our bones and have had similar experiences growing up so when someone dies all we need is support and love and patty is the perfect person for this moment.

You can see the deep concern she has as she watches her cousin struggle. She was so strong to step up from harmonizing to lead when he needed it yet going back to harmonizing when he got it together. Her love of her cousin and her actions went unsung sadly.

Patty Lovelace held that performance together. She got Vince through it. The guitar solo in the middle was actually improvised on the spot by Vince - the band knew to NOT start going again until he gave them the nod. He had to use that time to get it together enough to keep singing.

This performance gave me a whole new respect for what an amazing singer, and amazing person, Patty Loveless is. At 2:53 the look on her face tells me she’s already realizing Vince isn’t going to make it through this, so she steps up to hold the song together while Vince deals with his emotions, even though Patty was likely fighting the same emotions. She held the song together beautifully and going over to comfort Vince when he did end up losing it shows what a wonderful person she is also.

Patti had his back while he struggled with his grief. He loved him some George Jones. George's nickname for him was Sweet Pea. He mentored Sweet Pea early on. Yep, you need to check out Ms Patti..incredible voice. Plz listen to her sing You Don't Even Know Who I Am...please. And You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. I agree @Sandra Smith! I'm from Pike Co, KY.
      Turkey Creek /Belfry Area.
This broke 💔 me! We lost my oldest brother over 11 yrs ago from an accidental overdose. He was only 49. Just 6 wks shy from his 50th birthday! My heart will never be the same! We weren't close because of his addiction. He pushed me and my family away because he was embarrassed.
We had just started to get close when he stopped in between his travels from Florida to Ohio. He got to my house about 8:30 am (checking on him in between these hours) and I found him unresponsive at 3:45 Pm.
The EMS got a pulse on him but, it was too late! His brain was without oxygen for too long! After the third day. His children and our Mom had him removed from life support! I NEVER left my Mom's or his children's side the whole three days! I will NEVER understand WHY HIM! WHY ME! WHY MY MOM & DAD! WHY HIS KIDS!! WHY?! WHY?!! WHY??!!
I guess we'll NEVER know! I blamed myself for 2 yrs and spiraled into a deep dark depression! I climbed out of that bottomless pit of self loathing and self blame with God's help! He carried me through!
I miss my sweet handsome brother everyday but I still catch myself playing that day over and over in my head like a movie! Frame by frame and questioning myself "What could I have done differently to change the outcome?!!"
I honestly don't know. But, I do know; he doesn't blame me! He's visited me in my dreams and he's at peace.

@@kimberlygrimm7007 Oh, Kimberly. I'm so sorry you lost your brother, especially in that way. I lost my 2 younger brothers from Cancer. The pain would have been unbearable without Jesus. I hope you're trusting in Him as well. I can't imagine the pain of losing a brother in that way. So many lives lost, and it just gets worse. I'm so happy you've finally found peace over it. And dont ever let the devil steal that peace by making you feel that way again. He's so hateful, his time is short so he's working overtime to try and destroy our faith... loves to whisper in our ear the things he knows will hurt us , trying his best to defeat us. But " greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world"! Thank you for sharing that, and God bless and keep you and yours!

George Jones, to me, was the king of country music. Maybe it is bc I was brought up listening to him A LOT. Between him & Merle Haggard, the two men u could always hear blasting from my daddy’s paint and body shop. My brother would try to turn it when we were there helping daddy when we got older. Daddy would tell him that was a dangerous move. Lol.

For me this video is the truest form of country music. A song with the singer's purist emotions (whether they are happy, sad, angry etc.) and a loving and dedicated community that is filled with respect for the singers. No fancy vocal rifts or flashy productions. This is the country music we need back.

This is definitely one of the most powerful versions of this song. Vince and George had such a close relationship. I must have been unbelievably difficult. The two ladies sitting in the front one is George's wife the other I believe his daughter or granddaughter.
Patty loveless is definitely amazing. And she's not just a background singer or something like that. For some reason she doesn't seem to be as well known. But she's got 14 studio albums, four of them went platinum two of them went gold. More than 40 songs on the top charts five of which went number one.
If you ever get a chance to visit Nashville Tennessee, that's where the Grand old Opry ryman auditorium is located. The mother church as we call it. There's so much amazing music there. You can go on any weekend night walk down Broadway there's probably 30 bars with live music on Broadway downtown. Most of them you can just walk in sit down have a drink listen to some fantastic live music go to a different one. They all have a slightly different vibe not all of its country music. There is a fantastic blues bar up on Printer Alley. Called the Bourbon Street blues and boogie bar. They have good food too.

Vince Gill has written a 3rd verse to this song and has sung it at live shows a few times but has never sung it on live tv until a few weeks ago during the Loretta Lynn Grand Ole Opry tribute show. This is rough. Pat, should check out Travis Tritt at Charlie’s service. Travis was going to quit music all together and Charlie made him stay and was forever his rock.
