    SHOW NOTES
Hello all you atheists (and theists) out there! The hosts of today’s Atheist Experience are Matt Dillahunty and ObjectivelyDan. Dan joins us from ACA’s own Truth Wanted (airs every Friday), and we're glad to see him on AXP!
Our first caller, Jake in CA shares his beliefs with us. For instance, the devil is walking around and only has power through god. How could you know that? … oh the bible, of course.
Jose in GA feels Matt is dismissive of peoples stories about experiences with the holy spirit. How can we tell if someone had a genuine experience with the holy spirit? We don’t just shut people down, we care about what beliefs are true. Matt demonstrates to Jose that feelings don’t justify beliefs.
Lauren in NY has logical proof for god, arguing if the universe is a closed system then consciousness would extend to the universe itself. We’re not sure how consciousness would extend to the universe. Lauren goes on to talk about astrology and predicts Matt’s friends will have air/fire signs and Dan’s would have earth/water.
Lisa in FL asks how much knowledge of all religions comes into play when talking about atheism. You don’t need to research any or all religions to talk about your atheism. Atheists don’t need to disprove any god, let along all gods.
Jacob in CA thinks lots of laws in the old testament would fix some societal problems we see today. We don’t need a theological understanding of problems in the bible to solve current problems. We don't have to justify the bible, we can just get rid of it.
Joe in IL tries to prove the inspired word of god comes through him. He got a premonition to buy medical supplies at a hobby lobby...for a self surgery? Yeah, this one went off the rails.
Dan in NY claims to be able to prove the devil. Too bad he lied to get on the air, NEXT!
Enoch in PA, asks why we want to convince people they are wrong. We are just trying to have conversations about what people believe. If they figure out they don't have a good reason to believe something, all the better. We care about true beliefs.
Jeremy in NV claims to have a good defense of christianity and finds it best to defend one true god, not just a god. Matt asks what evidence demonstrates a god exists but Jeremy can’t seem to answer.
Last caller, Anthony in VA argues that god used to exist but doesn’t any longer, claiming that god is nothing but a title and ancient people put those ideals onto those names. There is no way to prove that.
Thanks for tuning in, we are so glad you joined us today. You can find more from ObjectivelyDan at / truthwanted Stay safe and continue wearing masks out there.

Childhood indoctrination is definitely a form of child abuse. During childhood, we develop our "operating system", the tool we use to interpret the world. It's the basis of how we think. Teaching children to believe things they can't prove are true is like giving them a mental disability, it greatly hinders their critical thinking, open mindedness and willingness to acknowledge when they are wrong..

My father is a retired southern baptist preacher (yes I know stop throwing rotten tomatoes at me lol) we have a solid relationship and my parents have known my position on the Bible and god. But he always says the same things as Jose somewhat I know deep in my heart he agrees with me sometimes because those are the times in discussions he gets angry and defensive and says I’m being disrespectful (I’m 55 hes 82 it’s all good really) I realize he’ll never admit it his fears are terrifying and his anxiety about death and hell. But I do smirk when he begins throwing a toddler tantrum when I make a good sound argument against that old book. I know I’ve made him think. I give him props the man I was raised by is mot the man he was when I hit age 30 (there are 6 of us 4 are atheist)
Most of the time religion is debated a lot between us all we do ok 👍 yes it gets heated. But then we all go change subject and play international rummy, gin and poker.
And have family quality time when we get together.
He’s an old softie really. My mom she does pray for us but she also can’t stay upset with us heathens lol that long. They love us
It hasn’t always been this way but we worked through it mom and dad were never the type to disown their children.

Very relatable though to be honest, idk if it's just me being autistic but I really enjoy Matt's straightforward way of talking and I recognize all too well the tendency among many callers to NOT be straightforward but instead just go off on a semi-related rant. In a way the caller was kind of right, a rather large portion of people don't talk the way Matt does, they're way more vague and don't have a proper back and forth, which in my opinion is a really bad and ineffective communication style. If everyone talked like Matt then it'd be so much easier for everyone to communicate! It's totally beyond me why SO many people can't follow the basic back and forth of questions and answers, and yet somehow I'M the "socially handicapped" one

@Hans Slane dude where's your proof for that? other than a damn dusty book written by 40 flawed men.
We don't know who wrote the books to trace it's origins. They coulda been drunk off their ass writing that. I dont think 2nd hand accounts of someone saying they saw jesus rise is viable evidence. Many of its stories can easily be seen ripped from the epic of Gilgamesh, an even earlier piece of literature. The bible has been translated and mistranslated thousands of times over to where you have 30,000 different sect and you all fight witheachother over which one is more "christian". Most of it is full of contradictions. The only "proof" of Jesus you have to go by is the shroud of Turin which has been debunked time and time again.
There's no viable proof as of yet to prove Jesus or god is even real. What makes the bible any different from Greek mythology? Seriously what's the difference? The bible is just a myth to help people back in the days cope with world around them and what they couldn't explain at the time. And as the world becomes more and more technically advanced and that we can come to terms with saying "we don't know" instead of shoe horning a god, the need for religion to explain our mysteries go way down.

After listening to only a few callers, I'm struck by how confused and unable to articulate clearly what they believe and why. It's quite disconcerting how many people live their lives in this daze.
Not dissimilar to being in,dare I say, a cult. I am so happy I've escaped those shackles. Love your show, even though it's hard to endure most arguments(?).

Yeah I agree with you there. I feel like he's an okay guy who is just really pathetically lost. If he hadn't been raised in an environment that told him these things were real, he could be living a life that isn't founded on ignorance and he could have the ability to deal with truths and not get upset so easily when faced with them. I feel bad for him because he does seem like a decent person but I think he's very likely a lost cause. He never developed the tools to do anything besides see himself as a victim and convince himself that others are just manipulative. It's another unfortunate example of what endoctrinating young minds will do and the often permanent damage it causes. Really sad and frustrating. I hope someday he can turn a corner.
